She Asks for a Divorce Again

Chapter 13 - 13 Fish

Chapter 13: Chapter 13 Fish

The shirt was a birthday gift she had given to Pei Yansi a year ago.

It had cost a considerable sum of money, custom-tailored to his figure, with every inch crafted under her close supervision in the company’s clothing department.

Even though she utilized the company’s resources, Shen Heyu had paid every cent that was due, and she had personally designed the pattern of the shirt herself.

At the collar of the garment was a small fish design made of aquamarine.

The aquamarine wasn’t conspicuous, its color profound and reserved, barely noticeable on the shirt, especially since the shirt was blue, complementing it well and looking nice.

Moreover, the small fish was from her name.

...

After she had given it to Pei Yansi, he had accepted it, but he never wore it. Once, she couldn’t resist asking where the shirt had gone, and he simply told her not to meddle too much.

Now the puzzle had been solved.

The shirt had been discarded in the office rest area, never worn, gathering dust, and now, it had been given to another woman to wear.

Shen Heyu couldn’t quite describe her feelings; it was as if everything hurt so much she had gone numb. She remained expressionless, not even her eyes reddening anymore, feeling only a dry bitterness in her heart.

She asked, “What does President Pei mean by this?”

She wanted to ask about the shirt but didn’t have the courage, so she chose to be ambiguously vague instead.

Of course, Pei Yansi had no idea what she really wanted to ask; he scoffed, his eyes sharply fixating on her, “What do you mean? Don’t I owe Bai Sheng’er an explanation?”

“What kind of explanation do you want?”

“Who uploaded the video? You were the director on set the whole time; don’t tell me you didn’t know. Meng Ru let her go on stage; you had the authority to stop it, so why did you tacitly allow her to perform?”

Pei Yansi wasn’t usually so talkative.

Right now, because of Bai Sheng’er, he bombarded her with so many questions.

Shen Heyu felt a sourness in her heart, “Which question does President Pei want me to answer first?”

“Shen Heyu!”

Pei Yansi’s icy gaze drilled into her, his eyes like deep wells—inscrutable, but always exuding a chill.

It sent a shiver down one’s spine.

Every time he called her by her full name, it meant he was furious to the extreme.

Before Shen Heyu could speak, Bai Sheng’er started wailing, “President Pei, it’s not Director Shen’s fault… Don’t blame Director Shen, it’s my own weakness that got me scared by the wire. I just saw the height and couldn’t help but feel afraid…”

“But I really didn’t mean to bump into Sister Meng Ru, and before going on stage, I did ask Director Shen for help, but she, she…” she stopped mid-sentence, just crying incessantly.

Such on-the-verge, tearful speech would make many men feel pity.

Hearing her cries and her expression of fear, Pei Yansi’s heart softened.

He told her, “You go back first.”

Bai Sheng’er cried and nodded, with her lips tightly pressed together and eyes red from weeping, she turned around and re-entered the resting room.

Shen Heyu watched her the entire time, the sight of the shirt on her almost stinging her eyes. In the rest room, she was still wearing Pei Yansi’s clothes, unaware of what had transpired between them.

At that thought, the corners of her mouth twisted into a mocking smile.

Pei Yansi looked at her, seeing that she could still manage a smile, he said coldly, “Is there anything else you want to explain?”

“I have nothing to explain.”

Even if she did, he wouldn’t believe her.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have let Bai Sheng’er come out and say all that.

It was all about first establishing a fact, then no matter how she explained, he would never believe her, and he used the issue to continually punish her.

Hadn’t it been like this for all these years?

On her way there, she was very troubled, but when she faced Pei Yansi, she found herself incomparably calm, numb with pain, and nothing else.

Seeing her unwilling to even explain, Pei Yansi’s frustration flared up even more, “So, you just have hostility towards Meng Ru and deliberately framed her, is that it? Shen Heyu, you really are venomous, in that regard, you have never let me down.”

Shen Heyu smiled faintly, “Whatever President Pei thinks.”

“Do you really not fear me firing you?” Pei Yansi’s grip on the pen tightened so much that his fingertips turned white.

Shen Heyu still spoke coldly, “You’re the boss, you have the right to fire me, I’ve never been afraid.”

But her tone was indeed fearless.

Pei Yansi might as well have been hitting cotton with his fists.

With no outlet for his rage, his handsome face was only filled with deep anger, his eyes coldly glaring at her.

The two stood off for a long time, neither speaking, the air still for a moment, yet also tense as though it could rip to shreds and bleed.

Shen Heyu stood in place for a long while, and seeing that he had no intention of speaking, she said, “If President Pei has nothing else, I’ll be leaving first.”

“Give you three days.”

This time Pei Yansi said, “Three days to quell all the doxxing, negative posts, and cyberbullying against Bai Sheng’er online. You’re footing the bill for this PR mess.”

Shen Heyu was silent for a few seconds, saying nothing.

Just standing there, quietly watching him.

Meeting her cold, calm eyes, Pei Yansi’s fury intensified, but before he could erupt, he said coldly, “Get out.”

Shen Heyu slightly bowed her head, turned, and pulled the door open, prepared to leave, but at the last moment, she still thought of the shirt on Bai Sheng’er.

She despised herself a bit, yet still couldn’t help asking, “What’s with the shirt she’s wearing?”

“What?”

Pei Yansi countered, hearing her tone finally lose its calm chill, his anger dissipated somewhat, quickly realizing what she meant, the anger rose again, “Haven’t I said that you shouldn’t meddle in what you shouldn’t?”

Shen Heyu’s back was to him, her face towards the door.

She heard his words, her lips curling into a smile, but it was bitter, invisible to anyone.

Her voice turned icy, carrying a hint of disappointment, deep and heavy, like a stone thrown into the water, slowly sinking to the depths, never to be found again.

“You’ll never know what that shirt means to me.”

Shen Heyu pulled the door open and left, leaving Pei Yansi with a resolute back.

Pei Yansi stared as the door closed, his brows tightly furrowed.

What did she mean?

What was wrong with that shirt? It was just something she demanded to be designed from the company’s talent, even the designer was chosen from the company, with no sincerity and still intended for him.

He wasn’t interested; what was the problem?

Shen Heyu stepped outside.

In her heart, she sighed, that little fish on the shirt was her.

Located at the collar, she had wanted not to be a mosquito spot, not a grain of white rice, but to be unique.

But now, she didn’t have that desire at all and even felt she was a bit ridiculous.

She just thought, Hopefully, Pei Yansi never falls into her hands one day.
