She Belongs To The Devil

Chapter 834 Catching Up

"I will make some tea. You two must be hungry." Scarlett got up from the stool, however, she froze after taking a few steps and asked while looking over her shoulder, "Do you two drink tea? Or eat any human food?"

She hoped that her question didn't come off as offensive to them.

"Oh, yes. We both consume human food." Damien was the one to answer. "But you don't have to prepare anything for us. Why don't you continue chatting with Kenneth? You two have reunited after so long. You must have a lot of things to talk about."

Scarlett smiled and nodded but headed towards the kitchen instead of sitting back down. "I do have a lot of catching up to do, but it would be rude of me to not even offer you tea. You two are growing men, you shouldn't go hungry for long hours."

Damien nodded and whispered so that only Kenneth would hear him. "Yes. I shouldn't go hungry for long hours. I found that the hard way."

After a while, Scarlett returned to the room while carrying a wooden tray. Both the boys took a cup each and Scarlett placed the tray on the floor, in the middle of the boys. She then said while pointing at some cookies and two slices of pumpkin pie, "I baked them yesterday because I was craving them. I was right to bake some extra."

"Thank you!" Kenneth picked up a cookie and took a bite. Though it tasted bland as compared to the cookies served back in his castle, he ended up lowering his head and holding back his tears as he munched on it because it tasted so… homely.

"What happened? Do you not like it?" Scarlett couldn't see his expression and thought that the food that she offered was too unsuited for the Crown Prince's taste.@@novelbin@@

Kenneth sniffled and took a sip of his tea before looking at Scarlett and saying, "It's quite the opposite. I like it very much."

"Oh! That's nice to hear." Scarlett smiled widely and ran back to the kitchen to grab the tea for her.

The three of them had some idle chat while eating and drinking tea. When Scarlett came back after doing the dishes, Kenneth cleared his throat and asked a question that had been bothering him until now.

"Scarlett, you're not a werewolf, are you?"

Scarlett shook her head. "No, I'm not. And neither was my father or his father before. But I believe that my great-great-grandfather must have been one. My father always used to warn me and my brother saying that if our future children ever manifested the curse, we should leave Mihir and bring them to Aberdeen. He never clarified what he meant by that, but…"

She looked at Kenneth and said while looking at him sympathetically, "…when you said you are a hybrid, I finally realized what my father truly meant by that. He must have known about the curse that ran in our blood. I'm so sorry I passed it on to you."

Kenneth took a deep breath and replied, "I don't think of it as a curse anymore. If anything, I'm glad you passed it on to me because it adds to my strength. And to be honest, it's quite liberating to fully transform into my wolf form and run around the woods."

The three of them continued talking, and sharing stories until it was dark.

Kenneth didn't feel any resentment towards his birthmother now that he got to know her side of the story. Scarlett was glad that she kept on living her life now that she finally got to meet her son. And Damien was happy that he came along with Kenneth because he found out they were related.

"I think we should head back now." Kenneth turned to look at Damien when he noticed Scarlett's tired eyes. "Everyone must be worried about us."

Scarlett looked sad as soon as she heard that, and she asked in a concerned voice, "It's already so dark outside. Will you be able to find any carriage at this time?" She was concerned because she didn't see any carriage waiting for them outside. And she didn't want her half-vampire son to encounter any werewolves.

Kenneth gave a smile upon seeing her worried and said in a bashful manner, "Um… that won't be a problem. Damien can teleport us in seconds."

"Oh, is that so?" Scarlett sounded rather dejected. She would have loved to spend some more time with the boys, cook them dinner, and ask them to stay the night.

However, she didn't have enough room in her house to accommodate them. And knowing that they were used to a lavish lifestyle, she couldn't bring herself to ask them to stay in her shabby little house. Besides, she also didn't have many ingredients at home to prepare a presentable dinner for them.

So, instead, she asked Kenneth, "Will you visit me again?"

"I would love to." Kenneth smiled and got up on his feet, followed by Damien, and then Scarlett. "Only if that's okay with you." He quickly added so as not to impose on Scarlett.

"Of course, I would like it if you visited me often." Scarlett looked up at her son's beautiful face that was glowing brightly even in the dim candlelight. She raised her hand and gently caressed his cheek. "We still have so much to catch up on."

"I will visit you soon then." Kenneth gave a wide smile to Scarlett.

Scarlett couldn't help but pull Kenneth into a hug. And she lovingly whispered to him, "I will be waiting right here."

Kenneth melted when he felt the warmth emanating from Scarlett, and lightly hugged her back. 'I could get used to this,' he thought as he closed his eyes and took in the warmth.

After pulling away from the hug, Scarlett turned her attention towards Damien. "You are also welcome to visit me again, Damien." She also dared to caress his cheek as she wasn't afraid of him anymore. "Take care of my son for me, will you?"

"Of course." Damien nodded like an obedient child.

She then looked at Kenneth and said with a smile, "Be good to each other."

If someone had said that to him a few weeks ago, Kenneth would have rolled his eyes at them. However, now, he took that statement with all seriousness. "We will."

Damien picked up the suitcase that they had brought together with them and asked Kenneth, who was looking at Scarlett with a slight hint of sadness in his eyes, "Kenny, ready to head back?"

"Yes." Kenneth took a deep breath and furrowed his brows when he saw Scarlett fighting back her tears. "I will visit you soon, I promise."

Scarlett wiped her tears and smiled. "I'm so happy that you came looking for me, my son. Thank you for finding me." She went in for another hug and finally waved her hand with a wide smile on her teary face. "See you again."

Damien allowed the mother and son to take one more look at each other before holding Kenneth's arm and vanishing into thin air.

Within a few seconds, Damien teleported them back to the guest room where Kenneth was currently staying. "Okay, you rest up. I will inform everyone that we are back." He put the suitcase down and decided to report to Theodore first.

When he opened the door, he found Theodore already standing outside the door.

Theodore smiled at both of them and asked, "So, did you two find the answers you were looking for?"
