“Hungry? Go wash your hands and eat.”
“Thanks, Mom!” Sheng Ning smiled and went inside to wash her hands.
Shen Luhua grabbed Sheng An, “What’s wrong? Did you argue with your sister?” Even a blind person could see that something was off between them.
“No!” Sheng An replied listlessly.
“Then is it because the bean sprouts didn’t sell well?”
“No, they all sold out.”
“Then why are you both acting like this?” Shen Luhua felt uneasy, fearing that her stepdaughter, who had just started to get better, would be upset again.
“Mom, do you think I’m too useless, too petty, and too selfish?” Sheng An said with a complicated expression.
On their way back, she kept thinking about Sheng Ning’s confidence, composure, boldness, and grace. She was even more shocked that Sheng Ning would go to such lengths for her. It felt like the first day she truly knew her sister.
“What are you talking about?”
“Mom, come with me.” Sheng An pulled her mother outside to the courtyard wall and recounted in detail what had happened at the mayor’s house today.
“What?” Shen Luhua’s voice suddenly rose, “That girl is too bold.”
“Mom, keep your voice down. If Dad knew the truth, he’d be furious.” Sheng An whispered.
“No way, I have to talk seriously with Ningning about this.”
“Talk about what? Her attitude was very firm. She wouldn’t listen to anyone. Besides, the IOU is already written, it’s too late now.” Sheng An was secretly pleased; she no longer had to marry that fool. She didn’t care even if people laughed at her.
“An’an, be honest, did you force your sister to go?” Shen Luhua looked at her suspiciously.
Sheng An immediately bristled, “Mom, you really are my biological mother. Be honest, did you pick me up at the market? Does anyone know Sheng Ning’s personality better than you do? She’s bullied me since we were little. When have I ever bullied her?” @@novelbin@@
“That’s true.” Shen Luhua reluctantly let go of her suspicion. Even she was afraid of her stepdaughter’s personality. An’an had a sharp tongue, but this girl was truly cold-hearted.
Describing her stepdaughter as cold-hearted wasn’t a good thing. Shen Luhua criticized herself internally. She couldn’t understand why Ningning would do such a thing. Could it be because her sincerity moved her?
If that were the case, she’d be willing to do anything.
Inside the house, Sheng Ning washed her hands and drank a large mug of water before feeling a bit better. Negotiating with the hypocritical mayor was harder than arguing with Qin Cuifen.
“You’re back, girl?” Sheng Laosan was weighing grain in the east room. Hearing voices in the main room, he immediately came out smiling, “Tired? Your mom has cooked dinner; we’re just waiting for you to come back.”
“Famished!” After a busy morning and a long walk, her stomach was growling.
“You silly girl, if you’re hungry, can’t you buy something to eat at the market?”
“Hehe…” Sheng Ning smiled and brushed it off, unwilling to spend the money.
After dinner, Shen Luhua seized the opportunity of Sheng Laosan’s nap to quietly pull Sheng Ning into their room.
“Ningning, I know everything.” Shen Luhua originally wanted to criticize her for making decisions on her own, but she couldn’t when thinking about how it was for her daughter’s sake.
Saying anything now would feel like being ungrateful.
“Ningning, thank you!” Shen Luhua genuinely expressed her gratitude.
What do you think?
