Chapter 33: Chapter 0033: Do You Think I Have Something to Say?

“Mr. Huo, the Sheng Family has sent someone to deliver an invitation; it’s the old master’s eightieth birthday.”

“And… Miss Sheng has returned.”

He Yan spoke the latter part with extreme caution.

Huo Tingxiao was silent for a while before he spoke.

“Tell the Sheng Family I will attend.”

“Okay.”

...

After He Yan left, Huo Tingxiao closed his eyes and rubbed his slightly swollen temples.

Meanwhile, Mu Lan was unaware that she was about to meet her rival in love; she was still totally focused on learning how to be a good secretary.

“Secretary Jian, there are some things I don’t quite understand; may I ask you for advice?”

Jian An raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised by her request.

“Speak.”

“It’s just, I feel like I’m not managing my time well; I can’t keep up with the efficiency.”

“I still lack experience; do you have any good methods?”

Jian An was silent for a while, then spoke.

“Read more, learn more, find your own way.”

“Just… like that?”

“Just like that.”

Mu Lan smiled weakly, feeling as though she’d been told nothing at all.

Seeing her downcast face, the usually reticent Jian An surprisingly spoke a few more words.

“You’re new to the workplace and haven’t yet found your interests and strengths.”

“Actually, I also don’t understand why Mr. Huo would have you be a secretary.”

At the mention of this, Mu Lan burst into tears of bitterness; she didn’t want to work as a secretary next to Huo Tingxiao at all—this job was not suitable for her.

But who would let her be dependent on others, taking their favor.

“Actually, I know my interests and strengths; it’s just…”

Remembering the seven years she’d wasted, Mu Lan beat her chest and stamped her feet.

If it hadn’t been for a lapse in judgment, she should be at the pinnacle of ginseng greatness by now.

“Have you tried communicating with Mr. Huo?”

“Do you think Mr. Huo is an easy person to communicate with?”

Jian An was silent, unsure how to answer that question.

“Mr. Huo…”

Looking up, Jian An saw Huo Tingxiao, who had appeared at some point, causing her gaze to fluster for a second, but it quickly returned to being as inscrutable as ever.

“Today, I have some private commitments; Assistant Mu, you need to leave work early.”

Private commitments? Mu Lan frowned, wondering what commitment?

“Okay, I understand, Mr. Huo.”

Jian An had gotten used to Huo Tingxiao’s various sudden arrangements and whims, so she naturally agreed.

Following closely behind Huo Tingxiao, Mu Lan remembered Xueqin, who had called her, and her mind was already clawing like a cat.

But… she had her pride. If she asked now, it would seem like she cared too much.

The previous dog-licking demeanor had already annoyed people to death; this time, she should save some face for herself.

“Mr. Huo, where are you taking me?”

“Shopping.”

“Ah?”

Mu Lan had no idea what he was plotting.

Huo Tingxiao knew just how to navigate a shopping mall, clearing it out directly.

Of course, there was no need for him to say anything; the clerk automatically extended the retractable barrier at the doorway.

“Go try those dresses.” @@novelbin@@

Leaning back on the sofa, Huo Tingxiao crossed his legs, his voice low and appealing, and coupled with his handsome face and stylish physique, he made the female sales staff swoon.

“Mr. Huo really has a good eye, this is the new arrival, also a classic from the starry sky series.”

Mu Lan glanced at the dresses, indeed they looked quite ethereal.

“What event is coming up lately? Why suddenly bring me here to buy dresses?”

“The Sheng family sent an invitation.”

The Sheng family? Is it Xueqin?

This lady’s influence is notable—no sooner had she called herself to show off than she sent an invitation. Wow, her tempestuous temper flared up, yet she had to pretend like she knew nothing.

“Which Sheng family?”

“Which other Sheng family could it be in Sea City?”

“I rarely attend such events. Networking and socializing are always my brother’s forte, so…”

As she spoke, Mu Lan picked up a dress and turned into the changing room.

Ha, it must be just like Xiaoman said, this Xueqin has something going on with Huo Tingxiao. It’s still unclear whether it was before the marriage or if it’s still happening now.

Although she had lost her memory and forgotten seven years of married life, that didn’t mean she could accept Huo Tingxiao’s infidelity as if nothing happened!

If he dared to do such a thing, she would definitely not let him off easily! Strangely, she previously did not care about that secretary; she even wished Huo Tingxiao had an affair so they could get divorced. Yet now, she couldn’t help but care so much!

Irritated, she changed into the dress but struggled with the zipper at the back; she accidentally caught her hair in it and instinctively called out Huo Tingxiao.

“Huo Tingxiao, my hair is caught.”

The clerk was about to help her but Huo Tingxiao stopped her with a look, then he stood up and entered the changing room.

The confined space suddenly became even more tense.

Mu Lan saw an additional reflection in the mirror and jumped.

“Why did you come in directly? Just… help me with the zipper, my hair is stuck.”

The more she spoke, the quieter her voice became because Huo Tingxiao was fixatedly solving the problem for her, his hands behind her back mischievously making their way through the fabric. Whether intentionally or not, his warm fingertips kept grazing the back of her neck, causing Mu Lan to instinctively shrink back.

This small reaction made Huo Tingxiao raise his eyebrows; it turned out this was her weak spot. He never noticed before.

Neither spoke, and the space was filled only with the rustling sound of fabric.

Mu Lan foolishly watched Huo Tingxiao’s reflection in the mirror; his perfect jawline, sensually pursed lips, and long lush eyelashes captivated her unintentionally.

When he finished with the zipper and their eyes met as he looked up, she suddenly realized what a foolish thing she had done and hurriedly averted her gaze.

“Thank you.”

“Very beautiful.”

Gently lifting her hair, Huo Tingxiao sincerely complimented.

He knew Mu Lan was beautiful, but it wasn’t a recent realization. He had seen many beautiful faces, and they did not leave a profound impression on him.

However, since her memory loss, every new side of her unexpectedly surprised him.

That charm, it radiated from the core of Mu Lan.

Was she as beautiful as Xueqin?

For some reason, Mu Lan really wanted to ask Huo Tingxiao that question, but as the words almost burst forth, she swallowed them back down.

“I think this dress is quite fine, no need to try another, right?”

Noticing Mu Lan’s somewhat evasive attitude, Huo Tingxiao’s gaze darkened slightly.

“Do you have something you want to say to me?”

Mu Lan looked up at him, uncertain.

Her heartbeat involuntarily quickened.

How did he know she had something to say? Had Xueqin already met him, or perhaps… he knew about her call with Xueqin and deliberately brought her here to try on dresses.

Huo Tingxiao, are you trying to test my attitude, or is it for some other reason?

“Do you think I have something to say?”
