Chapter 83: Chapter 083: In a dog’s eyes, everyone is a peer
The Following Day
After meeting with Vincent, Mu Lan became as excited as if she had been injected with chicken blood. After breakfast, and once Huo Tingxiao had gone to the company, she called Shen Ying to ask if her college textbooks were still lying around. Although her memory was gone, she figured that notes must definitely still be on those books, and they might be able to trigger some feelings.
Shen Ying told her that the books from her university days were still in the family’s study, untouched. Mu Lan was overjoyed and immediately asked Yun Xi to drive her back to the Mu Family.
As soon as she arrived home, Shen Ying grew curious about Yun Xi’s identity.
“Lanlan, who is this…?”
Mu Lan didn’t dare to say Yun Xi was a bodyguard, as Shen Ying would surely question her relentlessly.
“Oh, he’s the driver Huo Tingxiao arranged for me.”
Shen Ying didn’t give it much thought and was simply very happy. She felt that Huo Tingxiao, her son-in-law, was becoming more and more attentive towards Mu Lan.
“Yun Xi, don’t feel too restrained, just consider this your own home.”
After saying this, Mu Lan went upstairs to find her treasures.
During her last visit home, she hadn’t noticed a hidden sliding door bookshelf in her bedroom, covered with all sorts of professional books. She casually took a book titled “Fashion Design and Pattern-making Fundamentals,” and upon flipping through, she indeed found notes and highlights made with pens of various colors.
As she read on, Mu Lan didn’t know what came over her, but she suddenly… began to cry.
When Shen Ying came in with some fruit, she was startled to see her daughter holding a book and in tears.
“Lanlan, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
Mu Lan was startled for a moment, then she wiped her hands across her face, feeling the wetness on her fingers. After realizing what happened, she hastily dried her tears and explained,
“I’m fine, it’s just… I remembered how hard I worked in college.”
For some reason, as she said those words, she was deeply moved. Despite being unable to remember that time, each word, each line in the book was telling Mu Lan how hardworking and earnest she once was.
Shen Ying placed the fruit plate on the dressing table and came over to gently touch Mu Lan’s hair, her gaze filled with affection.
“Lanlan, I heard from your brother that you’re going to start working. Do you still want to be a designer?”
Mu Lan didn’t hesitate, answering without a second thought,
“Yes, I want to create my own brand. Confident, independent, to help women find themselves.”
“Lanlan, why are you… all of a sudden…?”
“Suddenly became wise?”
Shen Ying paused, then nodded, but her gaze towards her daughter held a depth of unspeakable secrets.
“Anyway, in the future, there will be more instances of becoming wise.”
Mu Lan started packing, and after filling a large cardboard box with books, she left the Mu Mansion. Shen Ying wanted to ask her to stay for a meal, but the words were swallowed back. Instead, she made a call to Mu Huaifeng.
———
“Yun Xi, drive to the city center, let’s go shopping.”
“Yes, Mrs. Huo.”
Yun Xi promptly changed the route, heading for the mall.
As the car entered the underground parking lot and found a spot, a Lamborghini sports car suddenly zoomed out, nearly colliding with them. Fortunately, Yun Xi reacted swiftly, only slightly brushing against it.
But the tremendous inertia caused Mu Lan’s body to be thrown violently forward, her forehead hitting the car seat ahead, bringing on instant tears from the pain.
“Mrs. Huo, are you all right?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine. My goodness, driving like that and daring to be a road menace.”
The person in the other car was also quite frightened, quickly coming down from the sports car to check the scuffed bumper.
“Who is this blind fool? Can’t you drive?”
Mu Lan rubbed her forehead while pushing the car door open.
“So it’s your driving that’s at fault, and yet you dare to blame others first?”
As she looked up, she recognized Sheng Xueqian from the Sheng Family. What a calamitous fate.
“I thought it was someone else. Is it not enough that you just bullied my sister, now you want to bully me too?
I’m telling you, a Mu is not like my sister; I have a temper and I’m not easy to provoke!”
Sheng Xueqian, standing with her neck stiff and a defiant attitude, forced Mu Lan to roll her eyes involuntarily.
“No one cares if you have a bad temper or not, the way you were driving just now was very dangerous. You might not care about your life, but I haven’t lived long enough.”
Mu Lan said this very impolitely, which instantly ignited Sheng Xueqian’s anger.
“What do you mean? Are you saying that I’m seeking death?”
“If you insist on understanding it that way, I’m not going to stop you. Move your car, a good dog doesn’t block the way.”
Sheng Xueqian’s face turned red with fury.
“Whom are you calling a dog?”
Mu Lan sneered.
“Whoever blocks the way is the dog!”
Sheng Xueqian glared at Mu Lan resentfully.
“You’ve got quite the mouth, just a daughter of the Mu Family acting so arrogant! Who do you think you are relying on to be so presumptuous? Do you really think there’s no one in the Sheng Family?
Don’t think that just because you deceived Tingxiao and rely on the Huo Family you can be so domineering. I’m telling you, I, Sheng Xueqian, won’t take any of your nonsense.
Today I’m going to teach you a lesson!”
Teach me a lesson? Mu Lan looked at Sheng Xueqian, her eyes icy, sending chills down one’s spine. Sheng Xueqian hesitated for half a second, struck by the woman’s aura.
“Teach me a lesson? You think you can? Try and see if you can touch me.”
Yun Xi was already prepared for a fight, Sheng Xueqian glanced at the two, and bit her lower lip unwillingly.
“I’m not like you barbarians who only know how to resort to violence.”
With that, she took out her phone and dialed a series of numbers.
“Brother, it’s me. I’m in the parking lot at Starlight Mall, there’s been a car accident, and the other party is bullying me.”
Mu Lan simply couldn’t believe someone could be so wicked as to lodge a complaint first.
What does she mean by this? Is she planning to slander me in broad daylight? Not wanting to waste time with such a person, Mu Lan looked towards Yun Xi.
“Yun Xi, let’s go.”
Yun Xi nodded and took the driver’s seat. Just as Mu Lan was about to get in, Sheng Xueqian grabbed her wrist.
“You’re not allowed to leave; the issue isn’t settled yet.
What’s the matter, scared?”
Narrowing her eyes, Mu Lan pulled back her hand and looked sternly at the unreasonable Sheng Xueqian.
“Miss Sheng, if you want to stand up for your sister, you’d better understand the situation clearly.
I don’t have time to play these pointless games with you.”
“I was just calling the police. There was a scrape between the vehicles. Let the police handle it. Is there a problem with that?”
Sheng Xueqian was obviously being deliberately difficult. Mu Lan thought to herself that she really got to witness the kind of ‘home training’ the Sheng Family offered.
“Fine, I really want to see how you’re going to turn black into white in front of the police!”
“Mrs. Huo.”
Yun Xi got out of the car again, not immediately resorting to handling Sheng Xueqian given the past experience. Mu Lan raised her hand, signaling her not to act.
Seeing this, Sheng Xueqian mocked sarcastically.
“What is this, a loyal dog from somewhere? So obedient to its master?”
“Only those who block the way are called dogs, and dogs indeed see everyone as their own kind.”
Trying to argue with Mu Lan was too much for the young girl, Sheng Xueqian could only take a loss after not gaining the upper hand, stomping her foot in anger without knowing how to retort.
“You… you…”
Mu Lan crossed her arms, relaxed and at ease.
It didn’t take long before several traffic officers arrived.
“Miss Sheng, what happened?”
Seeing her own people arrive, Sheng Xueqian immediately put on a different face.
“They hit my car. If it weren’t for my quick reflexes, there would’ve been a serious accident.”
What do you think?
