Chapter 62 - 62 62 A Good Father But Also a Good Husband

Chapter 62: Chapter 62: A Good Father, But Also a Good Husband? Chapter 62: Chapter 62: A Good Father, But Also a Good Husband? The forest was serene, bathed in gentle moonlight.

Xiang Ying’s phoenix eyes harbored a somber hue. “What have you been hiding from me?”

“Actually, Fang Qian was someone I sent to get close to you,” Xiang Li confessed with an ashamed expression.

“Why would elder brother do such a thing?”

“At that time, you were acting recklessly, indulging in countless male concubines. I was afraid you’d fall into depravity, so I wanted someone by your side, hoping that if you developed feelings for him, you would no longer obsess over beauty day and night.”

Xiang Li sighed, “Indeed, you showed a liking for Fang Qian, but he just became one of the many male concubines.”

“All I could do was remind Fang Qian to advise you more when he was with you. Unexpectedly, not long after he did as I instructed, he fell out of favor with you.”

Xiang Ying remained silent.

In fact, Fang Qian wasn’t out of favor; he was reassigned by the original owner to train the Death Soldiers.

From Xiang Li’s tone, it was clear he was unaware that Fang Qian was now the leader of the Death Soldiers.

“It’s rare for you to be so well-intentioned,” Xiang Ying said with a smile.

Seeing that she wasn’t angry, Xiang Li felt even more guilty.

“Sister… I didn’t intend to plant a spy by your side.”

“I know,” Xiang Ying’s bright eyes were filled with kindness, and her red lips curved into a faint smile, “I was naive before. I won’t hold it against you, but you can’t do that in the future, or I will be angry.”

When she said this, her expression wasn’t the least bit upset, but her tone clearly conveyed a sense of oppression.

Xiang Li nodded, “Certainly not.”

Only then did Xiang Ying help Xiang Li return.

In her mind, she recalled.

Fang Qian never mentioned to the original owner that he was actually the Crown Prince’s man.

Out of so many male concubines, the original owner unerringly chose Fang Qian to manage her Death Soldiers for her.

Could such inexplicable trust be because the original owner already knew that Fang Qian was sent by Xiang Li?

Because she trusted her brother completely, she was at ease using the person he arranged.

Thinking this way, Xiang Ying felt that the original owner was not as promiscuous and foolish as she seemed on the surface.

As the siblings walked back, they found that the prisoners, who had been asleep, were now being roused by the soldiers.

Tao Xue hurried over, “Elder Princess, you have finally returned; the Military Supervisor has ordered that we set out now.”

“In such a hurry?” Xiang Ying helped Xiang Li onto the wooden cart to lie down.

The three children, rubbing their eyes and yawning, sat up one after another.

While helping them dress, Tao Xue explained, “It seems Jie Jianjun has arranged the boats and wants us to speed up our journey to Lu State.”

As they busied themselves, at the front of the Exile Team, Jie Chen ordered the Vanguard Team to take the lead.

He then went to the back to help Xiang Ying pull the wooden cart.

Ever since his altercation with Supervisor Ke, the latter’s complexion was never the same.

Now, with a grim look in his eyes, Supervisor Ke watched Jie Chen go to help Xiang Ying, unable to contain his irritation any longer.

He wrote a note, tied it to a carrier pigeon, and released it into the wind.

Another Military Supervisor came over and, upon seeing this, his face turned to shock.

“Mr. Ke, surely you’re not sending a message via carrier pigeon to the Deputy General?”

With a cold face as he packed his belongings, Supervisor Ke replied, “Jie Chen disregarded the predetermined route and took a detour on his own, even planning to act first and report later. By informing the Deputy General in advance, I want to prevent any punishment from the Deputy General from affecting both of us.”

Supervisor Wei frowned, “Tell me honestly, did you only mention the detour?”

Supervisor Ke tightened the saddle, his actions rough, carrying a hint of temper.

“I also mentioned the death of Captain Jia.”

“You! Ah, how can you be so impulsive?”

“Jie Chen is shielding that woman. How can I not speak? Moreover, the Deputy General is Captain Jia’s brother-in-law. He would find out about this sooner or later.”

Feeling indignant, Supervisor Ke said, “Relying on his many years of undercover work in Xizhou, Jie Chen believes he merits accolades. The three of us are Military Supervisors; why should we always obey his commands?”

“I’ve informed the Deputy General of everything. You will surely thank me later. Otherwise, just wait to be punished alongside Jie Chen!”

With those words, he mounted his horse and took off with a shout, heading forward.

Supervisor Wei sighed repeatedly; with the two of them at odds, he felt he couldn’t do anything right being caught in the middle.

Fearing further complications, Supervisor Wei decided to keep the matter to himself and not inform Jie Chen.

As the sky began to light up, the Exile Team finally arrived at Lianhua Ferry.

The reeds swept lightly, and the colors of the sky interwove with darkness and light.

At the ferry dock, six large ships were moored.

Jie Chen classified the Exile Team into six divisions.

Xiang Ying and the children, along with those familiar faces around her, followed Jie Chen to board the first ship of the Vanguard Team.

Jie Chen glanced at Supervisors Wei and Ke, the military supervisors.

“Provisions will be evenly distributed. The Military Doctor will join us on the first ship. If you have no objections, I’ll issue the orders accordingly.”

Supervisor Ke snorted with a sardonic tone, “As if I would dare to object to your proposals, Supervisor Jie.”

He turned and boarded the ship.

Seeing his attitude, Jie Chen knit his brows, but Supervisor Wei smoothed things over, “He has a quick temper; it comes and goes. Don’t take it to heart.”

As the Exile Team boarded the ships in batches, Xiang Li’s cart could not be brought aboard.

Lin Lingxiang supported him, and when they were too close, Xiang Li tensed all over.

“Miss Lin… I apologize.”

“Your Highness, please don’t mind it. You don’t have to be formal with me. Just lean on me; I can support you.”

Despite her words, how could Xiang Li bring himself to really rely on her to walk?

When he finally boarded the ship after dragging his legs, which were not fully healed, he was drenched in sweat.

Xiang Li leaned on the ship’s railing, gasping for breath. Lin Lingxiang suddenly reached out next to him and gently wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief.

Her gesture contained no flirtatious intentions, but it still made Xiang Li’s ears turn red.

“Thank you.”

On Xiang Ying’s side, it was quite a task to catch the three excited and scampering little ones.

The children were jubilant at the sight of the ships, jumping around as agile as loaches.

“If you keep running around and accidentally slip under the ship and fall into the water, I won’t save you.”

After Xiang Ying’s scare tactic, Xiang Xiuxiu obediently curled up in her arms, “Mama, I won’t run. I’ll be good.”

Xiang Yuanshuo and Xiang Yuanlang didn’t seem quite convinced.

So Xiang Ying assigned Qi Fengyi and Tao Xue to keep a close watch on each of the boys.

Serene Fang quietly moved up behind Xiang Ying.

“Elder Princess, don’t worry. I’m a good swimmer; I’ll watch the children.”

Xiang Ying looked back sharply, her lips cold as she replied, “Just take care of yourself.”

Fang Qian was about to speak when Skinny Monkey grabbed him by the collar.

“What are you, a fisherman, still doing here? It’s time to set sail. Go help out! Don’t you dare stand around chatting.”

He dragged Fang Qian away, throwing a flattering smile towards Xiang Ying as he left.

Soon, all six ships were filled with people.

Jie Chen ordered people to assign cabins, with six individuals to a cabin based on the numbers on board.

Consequently, Xiang Ying, Tao Xue, Qi Fengyi, and Lin Lingxiang ended up staying together, along with the three little ones who didn’t take up much space.

Xiang Li was arranged to stay with Mr. Lin and a few other men.

Jie Chen made a point of approaching Xiang Ying, “Your brother’s accommodation is not far from yours, and I’ve arranged for someone to be on hand to watch over him.”

Xiang Ying narrowed her phoenix eyes, then suddenly smiled at him.

“Alright then, you’ve behaved adequately. I forgive you for what happened before.”

Jie Chen gave her an icy glance, “I’m not seeking your forgiveness; I just don’t want the children to worry about him.”

Xiang Ying laid her hand on his shoulder, her eyes smiling, her red lips curving beautifully.

“You do seem to be a qualified father, but I wonder if you’d make a good husband?”

Jie Chen’s stern expression suddenly changed.

He pushed away the hand Xiang Ying had on his shoulder, “Don’t overstep!”

Watching Jie Chen’s angry departure, Xiang Ying couldn’t help but laugh.

She couldn’t help it; whenever she saw Jie Chen being serious, she remembered his commendable behavior.

She always wanted to tease him a bit.
