Chapter 1398 1398: Spiral
All of the rooms that we passed through looked exactly the same.
It was as if all of these rooms were copies that were made from a single mold.
This wouldn't be possible with the power of humans, but this was a place that was built with the powers of a god. With the powers of a god, anything could be explained, or at least that was the case in the eyes of humans.
No, even in my eyes that had seen the gods themselves, I knew what kind of power they had.
It was just that I still didn't actually know why they had created this place to begin with.
Now that we were in this final room, it was time for me to make my move.
It seemed that Aisha wanted to get a bit of a reward before this was all over, but I didn't have the time to play along with her. So I just raised the Staff of Earth and walked to one of the walls.
Based on the map that she drew, this should be the wall that had the button in it.
With the map that she drew, it seemed like there were only three more rooms before the center of the spiral that these rooms formed.
That meant that we were almost at the center.
Though whether what was at the center was actually a way out or not was not something that I was aware of.
Once the tip of the Staff of Earth was up against the wall, I didn't hesitate to release the wave of mana into the wall in front of me. Once that wave of mana entered the wall, it was like a fish in water as it flowed quickly through the wall.
It even went through the wall faster than any other times that I had used the wave of mana.
Though I knew that this wasn't because I was getting better at controlling my mana. Rather it was because there was something different about this wall that made it easier for the mana to flow through it.
It was as if there was a special property to this wall that allowed it to channel this mana that easily.
It was strange that this wall was different, but then again…I hadn't tested the other walls that had been along the way. I had Aisha lead the way, so I didn't have to use the same method to find my way over.
Perhaps there was something changing about this place as we got closer to the center of the spiral.
With the speed that the mana flowed through the wall, it came back in no time.
Once it came back, I was able to find the button without any problems.
But even though it had been easy to find the button, I couldn't help feeling that something was strange about all of this.
I should have been happy that it was easy to find the button, but it felt like there was something wrong. With how easy it was, it really felt like we were almost being guided to the center of this trap…
No, if it was easy, then Aisha would have already gotten out of this place a long time ago…
So it wasn't as if it was becoming easier, it just seemed easy because I had something that perfectly matched what kind of trap this was. I had something that helped me find the things that would allow me to escape.
It wasn't that it was getting easier to escape.
But still, I couldn't shake this uneasy feeling that filled me.
Seeing that I was just standing there with the Staff of Earth out, Aisha suddenly asked, "What's wrong? Did you find something?"
I looked at her with a strange look before slowly shaking my head.
It wasn't that there was something wrong, it was just that I felt that there was something wrong about this place.
However, it wasn't as if I could actually tell her this.
If I were to tell her this and nothing happened, then all it would seem is that I was worried for nothing.
All it would seem is that I was causing trouble for no reason.
Not to mention that it was very likely that she would have laughed at me or at least looked at me with a strange look for thinking this.
So I really couldn't say it out loud.
Especially since she was my mother in law and I wanted to leave a good impression on her…Even before the whole mother in law matter, there was the other matter of using her name that I had to repent for.
So there were many reasons not to say anything.
In the end, I just shook my head and said, "It's nothing."
Then I went over to the button and pressed it to open up the hole in the wall.
I could see the way that Aisha looked at me with one brow raised, but I didn't say anything as I continued using the Staff of Earth to look for the button in the next wall.
It was just that it was even easier to channel mana into the next wall. It was as if there was no resistance at all, it was even as if the wall was sucking up my mana with the way that it pulled it in.
It really did seem like there was something set up for us and was waiting for us at the center…
Naturally, it didn't seem like it was something good…
But it was just too late to stop since there were no other clues that were here.
It seemed like whatever was in the center of the spiral was our only way of getting out of here.
So once again, I pressed the button and opened up the last room before the end.
And once again, I used the Staff of Earth to find the last button.
There was now only a single wall that was standing between us and the center of this spiral.
What do you think?
