Chapter 1045: Enemies
"We've been surrounded." Jackal's expression turned grim as he looked at the unknown newcomers. He was under the influence of that power as well, and his movements and thoughts became extremely sluggish.
Taking advantage of their conversation, he knelt on one knee with great difficulty and called out in a low voice toward the floor, "Summon the great God Fhtagn… Only He can save us at this point!"
Of course, Anna wanted to summon Charles, but the problem was that she couldn't summon him at all. In fact, Charles only managed to appear here thanks to the "Moth" exchanging their lives to summon Him.
Now that the "Moth" was deader than dead, how could Anna summon Charles? Was she supposed to summon him by herself?
"Are you sure they're not IMF personnel?"
"No! They don't have identification cards on their chests, and there aren't any squad emblems on their shoulders, either! The IMF doesn't have a ragtag bunch of people like these guys!"
These newcomers were slowly surrounding them, and there was also the giant face of an infant on the nearby wall. Anna pondered briefly before saying, "Since we're all taking advantage of the chaos, why don't we mind our own business?"
To be honest, there was no irreconcilable hatred between the two sides. Anna hadn't done anything to them, but these people were shouting to attack and kill her on sight. It didn't make sense at all.
Upon hearing that, the man standing at the forefront looked a bit furious. With a light wave of his hand, a bloody gash instantly appeared on Gao Zhiming's face.
"'We'? What do you mean, 'we,' you murderers! Do you know how many people your kind have killed in this entire site? Do you know many children have lost their fathers and mothers?""Hmm?" Anna was stunned. They weren't IMF personnel, but they actually had such a strong sense of justice. Just who were these people?
Just then, a long-haired woman stepped forward with a look of disgust. "Now you know how to seek peace? Why didn't you think about the consequences before doing this? Just go ahead and die. Mipha, do it!"
The giant baby face on the wall puckered its lips, looking furious. Immediately afterward, the walls on both sides rapidly closed in on Gao Zhiming and Jackal.
The corpses and all sorts of debris came crashing down on them.
Everything sharp in the room stood upright like rows of raised nails. Then, they all pressed down on the group. Anna finally understood how those vampires had died.
Accompanied by the jarring sound of metal rubbing against each other and the grotesque noise of flesh being squeezed, the two "living" walls finally closed in on the group, engulfing them entirely.
"Jacobs, let's go up. There are still many bats that we haven't cleaned up yet," the long-haired woman said, stretching lazily. Then, she turned around to leave.
"Wait, look at Mipha's face."@@novelbin@@
Upon hearing that, everyone turned and found that the giant baby face on the wall was distorted in both fury and agony. Its mouth was wide open, seemingly wailing.
Just then, the two "living" walls opened, revealing Gao Zhiming and Jackal standing unscathed.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The two walls crushed both Gao Zhiming and Jackal multiple times to no avail. The attacks couldn't do anything to them at all, and it was all thanks to Anna. Her special ability allowed the two to ignore any physical attacks. Ṟ𝘈NǑВЕŞ
The face of the man named Jacobs turned cold at the sight. "Rein, those two are a bit troublesome to deal with. Go lend Mipha a hand."
A bald man standing nearby stared at Jackal in the distance and raised a dagger. He then swung it forcefully toward his own right hand. The dagger was sharp, and it cleanly severed the bones and the flesh of the bald man's hand.
Bizarrely enough, the hand remained suspended in midair despite being severed.
The bald man let out not even a groan in pain despite his injuries. Instead, it was Jackal who groaned in pain, and his face was marred by agony as he clutched his right hand. His hand was drooping down, seemingly crippled, even though there were no visible injuries from the outside.
The bald man's face revealed a hint of disdain at the sight. Then, he turned toward Gao Zhiming, and the young boy's image was reflected in his iris. He raised the sharp dagger in his hand and thrust it fiercely toward his own temple.
Anna's heart instantly jolted at the sight.
Bang!
An explosion echoed as a smoke bomb was thrown to the ground.
A cloud of black smoke instantly obscured the bald man's vision. The bald man frowned slightly. He pulled out the dagger piercing his own head, and pinkish-gray brain matter flowed out of the wound.
"Target lost, obscured by the smoke. I need someone to get rid of the smoke," Rein said. Then, he glanced at a young girl playing with a Yo-Yo while chewing on some gum. "I believe some of us ought to be more proactive."
The young girl turned toward him and replied, "How would I know what you want me to do if you don't say it? You know the special ability I obtained isn't mind-reading, right?"
With that said, the young girl squinted one eye and placed two fingers horizontally in front of her face. From her point of view, the spreading black smoke fitted just right in the space between her fingers.
As she pinched her fingers gently, the black smoke was rapidly compressed until it became a small lump of plasticine in her hand.
With a few more gentle pinches, the black smoke was rolled into a small ball in her hand. Then, she picked up a cup on the table, turned it upside down, and let go of the ball. The ball of black smoke then floated into the cup before disappearing completely.
"Wait, where did they go?"
However, Anna, Gao Zhiming, and Jackal were missing. They were supposed to be inside the black smoke, but they were nowhere to be found.
"Mipha, find them. That small guy is most likely the mastermind behind this attack."
The giant baby face on the wall nodded vigorously. Immediately afterward, the ground cracked open, exposing Gao Zhiming and Jackal, whom Anna had pulled underground. Anna's arm was also half exposed.
"Everyone, move together! Don't let them escape!"
Anna's heart sank, and her face couldn't be more unsightly. Her backup plans seemed to be useless against their enemies. She tried to think of any solutions, but she couldn't even do that. She felt like her mind had become a rusty cog in a machine.
Anna could only watch helplessly as a cloud of yellow gas coiled around Gao Zhiming and the others.
Before any damage could be done to them, however, a curtain of water cascaded, colliding with the cloud of yellow gas.
"Hey! Mipha! You're blocking me!"
Anna's heart stirred at the sight. There's…. something wrong… with their… teamwork.
Anna turned toward them, and her pupils zeroed in on them, allowing her to see many different things inside them.
She grabbed the smoke bomb at her waist and squeezed it forcefully. There was a loud bang, and black smoke engulfed her immediately afterward.
Without those pupils, Anna's cognitive speed finally returned to normal. However, she could still see those people even though they couldn't see her at all. Anna scanned their faces and realized that these people had zero teamwork.
As for their identities, Anna had an idea, and it could be the key to escaping this predicament.
What do you think?
