Chapter 1081. Nancy
Chapter 1081. Nancy
"I'm not Lily? How could I not be Lily? If I'm not Lily, then who am I?"
"I'm not Lily? How could I not be Lily? If I'm not Lily, then who am I?"
"Lily" was confused, and she was doubting her own identity.
No matter how many times she thought about it, however, she was convinced that she was definitely Lily—the Lily who once lived life as a little mouse.
"Among the seven, Dawn One was assimilated, while the other five have long lost consciousness. I am definitely Lily."
"Among the seven, Dawn One was assimilated, while the other five have long lost consciousness. I am definitely Lily."
Upon hearing the response of the newly ascended Sun God, Charles replied, "No, I saw some fragments of your past. You're not Lily. In addition to those seven, something else has mixed in.
"Since you can't remember it, then let me help you remember it."
The towering flesh tentacles wrapped around the sun loosened, and then they rapidly transformed into a spear that pierced the sun at breakneck speed.
The massive sun in the sky was impaled by the spear, and crimson blood gushed out of the sun, dyeing the sea region beneath it in a crimson hue.
A powerful wave of spiritual energy rushed into "Lily's" body, and peculiar emotions engulfed her heart—extreme despair and extreme pain.
"Lily's" consciousness blurred, and she noticed something different among her memories. What was different was the existence of a special life—a life completely different from Lily's life as a crew of the Narwhale.
Nancy opened her eyes and lazily slapped the boisterous alarm clock. She sat up on the bed. After a while, she stood up and yawned as she began to get dressed.
The mirror beside her reflected her appearance; she was a young woman with a hooked nose. Obviously, she was dissatisfied with the fact that she had inherited her father's bad nose. Sitting before the vanity table, she tried to conceal it with some makeup, but it wasn't that great of an attempt.
After eating a simple breakfast, Nancy slung a shoulder bag, looked at her phone, and waited for the school bus at a street corner like a normal high school student.
Upon entering the bus, she ignored her rowdy schoolmates and sat indifferently in her seat while scrolling through some entertainment news as well as some celebrity gossip on her phone.
Soon, a blond young man boarded the bus. He was clearly popular in the school, and it was proven by his amicable greetings to their schoolmates.
When the bus started moving, the blond young man sat down next to Nancy and wrapped his arm around her slender waist. "Hey, babe, why did you not come to the party yesterday? You really embarrassed me before my buddies."
"What am I to you? A trophy to show off? Why did you not invite that silly cheerleader captain instead of me?" Nancy asked, sounding fierce.
The blond young man's fingers lifted Nancy's chin.
"Come on, that was just a rumor. As I promised back when we were still in elementary school, I like only you, hehehe," he said before closing in for a kiss.
Nancy raised her hand, blocking the kiss with her palm. However, the blond young man couldn't care less and even mischievously stuck out his tongue, drilling into her palm.
"Scram!" Nancy exclaimed, furious. The blond young man was extremely close to her, so she pushed him away and added, "We're done!"
The other students chuckled at the comedic sight. Even the bus driver observed the commotion through the rearview mirror. Everyone had long gotten used to the couple's quarrels.
"Nancy, this is the seventh time already. Do you really have to be like this? It's getting a bit boring. Can't we try something new?"
However, Nancy didn't pay attention to the blond young man. She wore her wireless earphones and turned up the volume to the maximum. Then, she turned to look at the scenery outside the window.
However, the blond young man just wouldn't give up. He sat next to her and repeated their ridiculous vow from the distant past.
Of course, Nancy herself knew that she couldn't hold out for too long. She could never be truly harsh to her boyfriend, and it wasn't like they had a bad relationship. The truth was that they were actually pretty close.
When she was reminded of that scene from a few days ago, however, anger suddenly flared up in her heart. This time, she decided to give him a lesson by staying angry for quite a while.
To ensure that she wouldn't get swayed by his sweet nothings, she focused her attention on the scenery outside. She observed the cars, appreciated the bright flowers in the passing gardens, and gazed at the clear sky.
"Ah~ the weather is really nice today. There's even a meteor. I've decided—I'm going camping later at three in the afternoon."
Soon, Nancy came back to her senses. Something was strange about the scenery.
"Wait, black meteors? Why are they black? And why does it seem like they're flying toward us?"
Smack!
Nancy slapped the misbehaving hand on her waist and cast a terrified look at the blond young man sitting next to her. "Robert, look! What are those?!"
"Ah~! Have you finally decided to forgive me, baby? My parents aren't going to be home tonight, so why don't we—what the fuck?! What the hell are those?! Driver, stop the bus!"
Boom!
Before the bus driver could react, an explosion sounded, and the bus was blasted away somewhere.
As a mere high school student, the only thing Nancy could do in this crisis was grab her head, curl into a ball, and scream. The screams and the blaring of car alarms drowned out the violent tremors and the deafening explosions.
Nancy opened her eyes and was surprised to find that nothing had happened to her body. It turned out that the blond young man beside her had hugged her tightly to protect her amidst the chaos.
"Are you okay, babe?" Robert asked with a strained smile on his pale visage.
Their tiny quarrels were nothing in the face of this disaster, and Nancy could only helplessly cling to Robert's neck with both hands.
Just then, she noticed something that made her freeze. Reflected in her horrified eyes was an exposed piece of steel sticking out of her boyfriend's back. In no time, Nancy processed the grim reality—Robert was going to die.
The dying Robert also understood that he didn't have much time left. With his hand wrapped around his girlfriend's head, he said in a trembling voice, "Nancy, I'm sorry. I can't keep my promise..."
"N-no, this can't be!! This is a dream! I must be dreaming!" Nancy couldn't accept that she, who was just on her way to school, was suddenly in the midst of a life-and-death situation.
As the blond young man's pupils began to dilate, he muttered, "Live well... don't be sad. If there are ghosts in this world... I'll become a ghost... and protect you... I really... really... love you..."
What do you think?
