Chapter 36
【This... this... this, is Sister Ye planning to turn a blind eye, right?】
【It seems like Sister Ye just wants to send these three troublemakers away. As long as they don't go too far, she’ll let them off.】
【Seriously, if you make a bit of noise, that’s one thing, but you’re being so loud.】
The livestream fell silent for a few seconds, then erupted in a flurry of ridicule.
Initially, everyone was deeply concerned about a completely blind victim, but then the victim went on to perform a series of actions, delivering a slap with full force that knocked her opponent unconscious.
After the initial shock, everyone began to understand a few things and watched the scene with less tension and more composure.
However, what everyone was curious about was how Ye Sangsang would handle the situation.
Ye Sangsang glanced curiously toward Brother Wang's direction, her expression filled with confusion. “What was that noise?”
In front of her, Brother Wang had already taken out a rope, but upon hearing her question, he froze. “It was probably the wind blowing something. The wind outside is quite strong today.”
“Could be! Would you mind closing the window for me?” Ye Sangsang asked naturally, adding as an afterthought, “Thank you.”
Brother Wang set down the rope and stood up to head to the master bedroom.
Fortunately, he had managed to cover it up. If they were discovered, it would only lead to more trouble.
Thinking of the two fools inside, his face darkened with anger.
He opened the door to the master bedroom, gently shut it behind him, and whispered furiously, “What have you two done! How could you be so careless! If that blind woman outside finds out, we’ll have more trouble than you can imagine!”
“I didn’t do it on purpose,” Zhao Changde muttered under his breath.
Chen Jing nodded, “The safe is too heavy. To unlock it, we had to move it, and it naturally made some noise when it bumped.”
Brother Wang waved his hand impatiently, “I don’t care. I’ll go out and turn up the volume on the TV. Just... stop making any more noise.”
The two of them knew they had been careless and quickly nodded.
Brother Wang glanced at the open floor-to-ceiling window in the master bedroom, then turned and returned to the living room.
He walked over and sat down on the sofa next to Ye Sangsang. “The windows are closed. The wind is really strong today, and it might rain tonight. Miss Wen, you should be careful staying alone at home tonight. If you need anything, you can call the property management.”
“Thank you,” Ye Sangsang replied softly.
She let him speak while silently turning up the volume on the TV to mask their movements.
All she hoped was that they would leave soon.
As the conversation continued quietly, she reached out and felt for the remote control that was already out of batteries, placing her hand beside it.
People tend to have some bad thoughts when they’re bored. Brother Wang, gazing at the woman dressed in dark home clothes whose fair skin seemed to glow like snow, couldn’t help but smile.
He stared at Ye Sangsang, and taking advantage of the fact that she couldn’t see, he gently played with her black hair.
In the presence of something fragile and beautiful, human malice often surfaces unconsciously. Brother Wang suddenly asked, “Miss Wen, do you have a boyfriend?”
“Why do you ask?” Ye Sangsang sat upright on the sofa, curious as to why he was asking this.
Brother Wang looked around at the spacious flat, the luxurious decor, and the beautiful woman in front of him. Greed flashed in his eyes. “It’s nothing. I just wanted to ask... I think I fell for you at first sight. I’m handsome, tall, and I graduated from a prestigious university. Do you think you could give me a chance?”
His voice was deliberately lowered, and his gaze on Ye Sangsang was filled with determination.
“Aren’t your colleagues here yet?” Ye Sangsang didn’t answer but instead changed the subject.
She wanted him to leave quickly.
Ye Sangsang stood up, intending to head toward the balcony.
Once a wicked thought takes root, it grows like wildfire.
Brother Wang stepped into Ye Sangsang’s path to the balcony, waiting for her to bump into him.
Ye Sangsang stopped in her tracks. “Property manager, could you turn off the TV? It’s a bit loud.”
She held her phone.
Brother Wang, not daring to make any excessive moves, eventually gave in and turned off the TV. His desires lay in greed first, lust second.
Ye Sangsang had planned to head to the balcony but remembered the scattered glass fragments and instead turned toward the kitchen, feeling her way toward the milk.
These minor details were all stored in Ye Sangsang’s mind.
However, being unable to see caused her to make mistakes in her actual movements and orientation, which often led to inaccuracies despite her memory.
This was the most frustrating part for her.
Still, being blind sometimes served as a natural protective shield.
She was frail, unable to see, and this made her presence all the more undervalued by others.
Leaning against the island counter, she sipped her milk. She had to admit, the full-immersion game really was a marvel for satisfying one’s taste buds.
【While everyone else is working their butts off, Sister Ye’s just eating and drinking.】
【Honestly, I just hope they leave already.】
【I hate this Brother Wang. What a creep.】
Ye Sangsang quietly drank her milk. Meanwhile, inside the master bedroom, things were heating up. Opening a safe wasn’t an easy task. Chen Jing, finding that the safe was too tough to crack, took out a stethoscope and placed it next to the safe’s lock, attempting to open it.
She turned the lock and sprayed something on the keypad, then began trying different combinations, probing for the right point to turn the dial.
The safe had been in use for about five or six years, and she was confident she could open a safe from that era.
Time ticked by, but the combination still hadn’t been entered correctly.
Zhao Changde couldn’t help but urge her quietly, “We don’t have much time left. We only have an hour or so before we need to turn off the surveillance and hide. Hurry up!”
“Do you think I don’t want to? Don’t you know how tight our time is?” Chen Jing was already tense, and Zhao Changde’s words set her off like a lit fuse. She glared at him, though she kept her voice low out of consideration for Ye Sangsang’s presence.
Zhao Changde, afraid of causing trouble, simply shut his mouth and said nothing.
Ye Sangsang finished her milk, wiped her mouth, and slowly, feeling her way, tossed the container into the trash before heading to the sink to wash her hands.
The room was a bit cold, and Ye Sangsang, barefoot, felt chilled. She fumbled around and set the thermostat to 28 degrees.
At this point, Brother Wang was clearly starting to get anxious. Ignoring Ye Sangsang, he quietly moved to go and prod the others along.
They were there to steal, taking advantage of the current chaos in the property management due to a murder investigation. The security footage had been seized by the police, and they had managed to tamper with two of the building’s surveillance angles, using the opportunity to make their move.
But if they stayed too long, they risked being discovered, and that would be a big problem.
Ye Sangsang moved around the room aimlessly, doing small tasks, before finally sitting down on the sofa to play with her phone.
There were simple, offline games that even the blind could play, and they were actually quite enjoyable.
The minutes ticked by, and at one point, there was a sudden cry from inside the room. Ye Sangsang knew they had succeeded.
Now they should be leaving, she thought.
But then, something unexpected happened. Ye Sangsang suddenly felt someone approach, and a nylon rope was looped around her. Before she could cry out, sticky tape was slapped over her mouth, sealing it shut.
“Miss Wen, you knew about us all along, didn’t you?” Brother Wang’s voice suddenly rang out.
Ye Sangsang’s eyes widened, and she let out muffled sounds.
Knowing the house had excellent soundproofing, Brother Wang quickly tore off the tape from her mouth.
Ye Sangsang winced in pain, her face filled with panic. “Wh-what do you want to do!”
She instinctively shrank away.
“Don’t play innocent. You were trying to get rid of us when you asked me to turn off the TV earlier, and you avoided answering my question,” he said directly, looking at Ye Sangsang. “Don’t take us for fools, Miss Wen...”
Ye Sangsang’s face remained one of shock, though now tinged with fear. “No, no! You... what do you want? Take whatever you want... I won’t use them, and I won’t call the police, as long as you... don’t hurt me!”
Her voice quavered as she spoke, and her blank stare made her appear extremely vulnerable and helpless.
“Heh, quite cooperative,” Brother Wang said, pulling out a knife. The cold blade hovered under Ye Sangsang’s chin, leaving her in an ambiguous predicament.
Ye Sangsang flinched and sidestepped the knife’s tip.
Brother Wang didn’t seem bothered. He stood up, thinking about how to keep Ye Sangsang quiet.
He had no intention of killing her—stealing was one thing, but murder was something else entirely. Still, disposing of her in a way that ensured she wouldn’t reveal their actions was a conundrum.
Because they no longer needed to pretend, the two in the master bedroom came out with bags in hand. Zhao Changde said, “If we can’t silence them, we’ll just have to kill them. Only a dead person won’t talk. Apart from the living room, there are no surveillance cameras, and I’ll hack into the living room’s surveillance to make it look like a malfunction. Then we’ll clean up the scene and lure that murderer to this house. That way, we won’t be suspects.”
“Right, that murderer is still in the neighborhood anyway. The more debts you have, the less you worry, and an extra case won’t make a difference,” Chen Jing chimed in.
Brother Wang glared at the two of them. “You make it sound so easy. It’s not like ten years ago when some tricks were harder to detect. It’s 2014 now, and those cops aren’t pushovers.”
The two of them fell silent, knowing Brother Wang was right.
The three of them turned their attention to Ye Sangsang. Ye Sangsang shook her head frantically. “I really won’t call the police. I’m just a blind person. It’s way too easy for you to revenge yourself on me. I’m completely defenseless.”
Ye Sangsang spoke sincerely, emphasizing her disadvantage.
As a blind person, she knew they would think it easy to control her.
“I still want to live. There’s no need for you to get involved in a murder over me.”
She continued.
Brother Wang looked at the person tied up on the sofa, curled into a ball, and his face suddenly broke into a lecherous grin.
Ye Sangsang felt the strange gaze on her, but since she couldn’t see, she could only continue trembling in wait.
The next second, she was hoisted up, her head hanging downwards as she was carried toward an unknown direction.
Brother Wang’s excited voice couldn’t be contained. “I’ll take some photos and videos of you. If you don’t behave, I’ll release them. That way, you’ll have no choice but to listen to me…”
Ye Sangsang’s body tensed instantly.
【Ahhh, save me! If anyone dares to touch Sis Sang, I’ll go in and kill you all!】
【Beasts! Inhuman!】
【Sis Sang, I support you stopping them from leaving this house!】
The other two seemed to think this was a good idea and didn’t try to stop him. Instead, they began rummaging through the bags.
“This family sure is rich. Gold, cash, jewels—we’ve hit the jackpot!” Zhao Changde didn’t seem to care, gently caressing the bag he was holding, as he sat in the living room, lost in fantasy.
In his fantasy, he was in a luxurious private room, surrounded by beautiful women, splurging money lavishly.
Chen Jing didn’t try to stop him either. To her, Ye Sangsang was just a blind woman who had lived a sheltered life in a wealthy family. She deserved to suffer a bit to balance things out.
Ye Sangsang was thrown onto the bed in the master bedroom. The moment she touched the fabric, she knew where she was.
Wen Yanxin’s body was frail, and after being thrown, she felt a wave of dizziness.
She stretched out her hand, trying to crawl away.
Before she could move much, the man grabbed her ankle and pulled her back forcefully.
He looked at Ye Sangsang with a twisted smile, his tone full of malice. “To be honest, I only pretended to find out because of you.”
“Don’t come any closer! Don’t come any closer…” Ye Sangsang repeated these words, continuing to struggle. Due to her weakness, a tug-of-war began between them.
Brother Wang didn’t notice anything unusual, only feeling that Ye Sangsang was surprisingly hard to restrain.
Ye Sangsang stretched out her hand, fumbling around and trying to gauge the direction of the bed, moving toward the nightstand.
Brother Wang reached out to hit her but was quickly kicked away.
Her hand continued to search, and soon she touched something cold.
It was glass.
It was an ashtray.
She quickly hid it under the pillow.
The entire process was swift, and the man hadn’t noticed, as he was too focused on restraining her.
But even if he had noticed, she wouldn’t have been afraid.
With the ashtray in hand, she fell silent, as if she had exhausted all her energy.
“That’s it, just keep quiet, and I’ll make sure you suffer less,” Brother Wang said with a grin, his smile grotesque.
【Haha, I knew it. Sis Sang must have planned this all along.】
【Why didn’t Sis Sang act earlier? With her strength, even blind, she could easily harm them.】
【Dude, she’s blind! You try navigating with your eyes closed and see how well you do.】
Ye Sangsang didn’t know what the viewers in the live broadcast were thinking, but if she did, she would only chuckle softly, waiting for them to learn the truth.
She felt the man eagerly undoing his pants, waiting for him to come closer.
With her previous experience, this time she wouldn’t miss her mark.
Just as Brother Wang was about to pounce on Ye Sangsang, ready to strike, the electronic doorbell in the living room rang.
“Ring ring ring…”
Brother Wang wanted to ignore it, but something in him told him he should check it out.
Ye Sangsang’s eyes flashed with impatience.
Brother Wang quickly put his pants back on and went out, dragging Ye Sangsang along with him by the arm.
After one round, Ye Sangsang’s clothes were only slightly wrinkled.
“What is it?” Brother Wang looked toward the door and asked the two in the living room.
Chen Jing stepped forward to check the smart door lock, clicking on the intercom to view the camera.
The moment she saw who was at the door, Chen Jing trembled and quickly turned to Brother Wang. “Brother Wang! It’s the police!”
The three of them in the room instantly panicked. Zhao Changde grabbed the bag and rushed to find a place to hide.
Chen Jing went pale with fear, looking to Brother Wang for help.
“Did you call the police?!” Zhao Changde asked nervously, grabbing the knife from the coffee table and rushing toward Ye Sangsang.
Ye Sangsang only shook her head weakly, her hands fluttering, looking innocent and bewildered, with a glimmer of hope.
Just as he was about to reach Ye Sangsang, Brother Wang bellowed, “Stop!”
“Are you protecting her?” Zhao Changde’s knife shifted direction, now pointing at Brother Wang.
Brother Wang’s anger erupted. “I’ve been watching her every move outside. She didn’t call the police. Don’t turn on each other. The police might have some other reason!”
Zhao Changde immediately realized and said, “Maybe they’re here to check on the murderer!”
“Yes, yes! There’s still a murderer in the neighborhood! If the police can’t find him, they might come around to ask,” Chen Jing, who had been panicking, came to her senses and quickly agreed.
Zhao Changde turned to Brother Wang, who was the most resourceful, his voice filled with panic. “Brother Wang, what should we do?”
Chen Jing also looked to Brother Wang.
The room fell into complete silence.
【If Sis Sang signals to the police, we can finish the mission, right?】
【I don’t think it’s gonna be that easy…】
【Please, stop saying that! Every time someone says that, something bad happens.】
The live streamroom fell into an eerie silence, different from the silence in the game but similar in the sense of fear and uncertainty.
Brother Wang thought for a moment, then looked at Ye Sangsang and grabbed a knife, holding it to her neck. “Miss Wen, later I’ll have Chen Jing take you to the door to talk to the police. Be careful with your words. If you say the wrong thing, I’ll make sure she stabs you right through the neck, letting you bleed to death.”
“If you let them in, don’t think you’ll get away—even if we die, we’ll drag you down with us.”
“Understood?”
Chen Jing and Zhao Changde smiled. As expected of Brother Wang, he had come up with such a brilliant plan so quickly.
Ye Sangsang’s face was filled with fear. She looked ahead and nodded weakly, “I understand.”
“Cooperate with us, and we’ll let you live. If you don’t, you’ll have to see whose blade is faster—yours or ours,” Chen Jing said, snatching the knife from Brother Wang’s hand and lightly tapping it on Ye Sangsang’s face, her tone full of threats.
Ye Sangsang slightly turned her head to avoid the sharp blade.
“Hmph.”
Chen Jing was about to strike but thought better of it, fearing it might leave a mark that could be spotted. She ended it with a cold snort to express her dissatisfaction.
Ye Sangsang wanted to sigh. If the house’s soundproofing weren’t so good, the entire argument could have been heard outside.
They were cautious, but not cautious enough.
At this moment, the doorbell outside had rung three times already.
Chen Jing stepped forward and clicked on the intercom, speaking first. “Hello, may I ask what you need?”
“We are the police. Please open the door; we need to see the person who lives here,” the police said, showing their credentials to the camera before speaking.
Ye Sangsang was pulled forward. Unable to see, she almost fell to the ground but managed to steady herself just in time. “I am the homeowner, Wen Yanxin. I’m fine; I just don’t want to see anyone.”
“Please open the door, we need to confirm that the homeowner is safe.” The police urged.
Ye Sangsang immediately replied, “...Okay.”
At that moment, she felt a sharp object pressed against her waist—it was Chen Jing's knife.
The threat had clearly begun.
Ye Sangsang's body stiffened, and she almost let out a shout out of fear. To save her life, she quickly covered her mouth with both hands to suppress any sound.
Seeing that she was compliant, Chen Jing's lips curled into a satisfied smile.
Leaning closer, she whispered into Ye Sangsang's ear, “Don’t cause trouble for everyone, okay?”
Ye Sangsang nodded frantically and reached out to open the door.
The door opened inward, pulling back just a crack, and she appeared at the entrance with a wary, lost expression.
Her unfocused eyes immediately made the police realize that the homeowner was blind.
This explained why it had taken so long for her to open the door.
Chen Jing pressed closely against Ye Sangsang, standing behind her. One hand supported Ye Sangsang’s arm, while the other held the knife against her waist.
The young police officer, noticing Chen Jing supporting Ye Sangsang, asked, “Have there been any strangers outside your door, especially unfamiliar men, about 175 cm tall, in their mid-twenties?”
“No, we’ve been at home the whole time; there haven’t been any strangers,” Chen Jing replied calmly.
Ye Sangsang nodded along, her eyes shimmering with tears.
The police sensed something was off and peered into the house.
This sudden movement caused Zhao Changde and Brother Wang, who were preparing to check the situation, to panic and crouch down behind the walls and a large vase, fearful of being discovered by the police.
Ye Sangsang also sensed the tension, and Chen Jing’s expression behind her became highly tense, the knife tip nearly piercing through the fabric and grazing her skin.
In a spot unseen by the others, Ye Sangsang’s lips quirked up ever so slightly, revealing a mischievous smile.@@novelbin@@
