Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 610: 609: Nightfall

'You doubt I'll make it before it becomes late? Before nightfall?'

As Corey watched the carriage driver leave to pick up a customer who was not a forsaken and a banished like him, his brows were deeply furrowed as he thought back on the words of the driver.

'I guess there's day and night in this place? But the night is more dangerous?' Corey looked up for a second before looking away, 'Well, I shouldn't wait to find out about how dangerous the night can be. I should get going.'

Corey thought, and then he started walking. Hours went by, and by the fourth hour, the sky began to change. Enjoy more content from My Virtual Library Empire

The sky darkened and a cold wind began to blow in the nameless town. Shops, homes, and buildings began to shut their doors, and the people on the streets either went to their various homes or entered the shops of those they were familiar with or those who were kind to allow them to enter.

Corey had been walking and even jogging for some time now when he noticed the change in the sky. He had tried running, but he was stopped by law enforcers who told him that running was prohibited in their town, especially for banished and forsakens.

Due to this, Corey could only jog at the allowed speed, and this prevented him from being able to leave the town before night fell.

Corey stood at the center of an empty road and street, and if not for his Ears of Omniscience, he would not be able to hear a single thing.

"That Forsaken is definitely going to die."

"He was a fool to not have left before nightfall."

"No, he wasn't. I saw him, he has been jogging for some time. He's just unlucky that he didn't get to the town earlier. If he did, he might have been able to leave the town before night fell."

"Are you sympathizing with the Banished?"

"Of course not. I dare not. But what I was saying was the truth."

"You're not wrong, but you're also not right. If he had not wasted so much time talking with that weird old man and that carriage driver, he might have made it out of the town before nightfall, or he would be much closer to the exit. This is why I said he's a fool."

"Hmm… I guess you're right?"

"Of course I am. I always am. That Banished is going to get tortured and devoured by the Cursed Souls."

This conversation was one of the several conversations he heard through his Ears of Omniscience, and although he was intrigued by some of the conversations, he was not able to get concrete information on what was going to happen.

The only information he got was that he would most likely be attacked by Cursed Souls, although he had no idea what Cursed Souls were.

'Just like how I can't hear what people say whenever people talk about the skeleton on my back, I also can't hear what people say about what would happen when night falls.'

'When anyone of them wants to talk about what's going to happen, I am not able to hear anything.'

Corey furrowed his brows in thought, and a few seconds later, his gaze shifted to the wooden walls of the nameless town. Compared to before, he was certain that he was closer to the exit of the town. However, the issue was if he could make it.

Corey exhaled deeply, and then his posture changed. He hopped on his feet a few times, and then he began running at his fastest speed.

'Since there are no guards to stop me this time around, there's no reason for me not to run.'

Because of the lack of immense danger Corey has experienced in the second Tribulation of Hell, a part of him felt like the danger of the night that everybody had been warning him about was inconsequential.

However, another part of him was warning him that the danger of the night was not to be taken with levity. There was no benefit in taking the danger of the night lightly, and besides, Corey trusted his guts.

As Corey ran, his attention was sometimes on the skeleton on his back. He was watching out for any changes in the skeleton, no matter how minute it was.

Despite running at a speed that was at approximately 250km/hr, Corey's feet made no noise, and he was like a drifting ghost.

He dodged various obstacles that were left on the road, and he made deft turns when needed. Exactly six seconds after Corey began running, he heard a strange sound just as he about to make a turn to his left.

He wanted to stop, but he could not because he was already in a turning motion, and if he tried to stop, he would be severely damaging his legs.

As Corey made the turn, his eyes narrowed slightly when he saw a woman wearing a red dress standing at the center of the road. The woman was looking down, and her long blonde hair prevented him from seeing her face.

Corey's eyes flashed with calculating glint for a fraction of a second, and unlike what most would expect, he did not stop running nor reduce his speed. In fact, he increased it.

The distance between him and the woman was approximately 400m, and this was a distance he could cross in a matter of seconds at his current speed. However, the moment Corey reduced the distance between him and the woman to 200m, the woman raised her head, and then Corey was able to see her face.

The moment Corey saw her face, his expression changed to one of surprise and disgust.

The strange female had a human face but it was not that of a woman but a man, an old man. Not only did the strange woman possess the face of an old man, the head was turned upside down and from its mouth was an extremely long tongue like that of a snake.

'I thought once I left the Shattered Dimension I was done seeing ugly and creepy things. What the hell is this?'

Just as Corey had this thought, the distance between him and the strange entity in front of him was approximately 100m.

However, in that fraction of a second in which he crossed the 100m mark, he saw the stomach of the strange entity split open, and then before he could even react, countless pale white hands appeared before him, and they were less than an inch from touching him.
