Chapter 421 Section 417 - Mission Failure

The ancient castle-like building, with more than half of its main body turned into ruins, suddenly shook as if an earthquake had occurred, causing the already fragile parts to collapse completely.

Countless spikes extended erratically from the collapsed positions, and the struggle beneath the debris continued unabated.

A figure was thrown out, flailing their arms and legs.

"'Superstring'!"

The voice of "Cornered Beast" rang out.

"Roger that!"

Boom—a loud noise.

The human form in midair burst apart like a ragdoll, seemingly due to some Wind Series skill, utilizing air vibrations to inflict damage.

"Clear out all inside and underground of the building!"

The voice of "Sleep Demon" resonated in everyone's minds.

The "Summoner" was destroying the building and eliminating the living forces, drawing the survivors out for a counterattack. Alongside him, "Superstring" took the chance to strike at the enemy as they emerged, while "Cornered Beast" seized the opportunity to coordinate attacks from inside and outside, backstabbing the opponents.

The only target remaining to be cleared out inside the manor was the former Tunguska Region's chief security officer Akim, who was locked in combat with "Great Sword."

"Great Sword," moving freely outside, was containing the surprisingly powerful foe without seeming to be at a disadvantage, yet...

"Tough one!"

The Life Drain skill was too domineering, and even "Great Sword" was having his vitality drained continually during the relentless exchanges.

Even with the advantage in rank, the drawn-out war of attrition was difficult to decide quickly, and Life Drain shifted the slight balance.

"Time to finish this!"

The "Summoner" did not look back at the now-leveled castle-like building but turned and headed towards the manor's main gate, walking toward the location where "Great Sword" and Akim were fighting.

Whoosh!~

A gust of wind; the gray trench coat at "Summoner's" side grew from having two people to three.

A slender stiletto sword, shaking off fine droplets of blood, was sheathed.

Seeing that the target was exceedingly resilient, Adrian asked, "Chen Fei, can you provide support?"

Chen Fei had been at the forefront, on the edge of the Life Drain range, watching the intensifying battle.

After all, Adrian had two burdens—One was a Grade B Ice Ability User exhausted of their powers, and the other was a Little Bird that couldn't survive in the harsh outdoor cold.

"Both sides move too fast, mutual annihilation unless!"

Chen Fei didn't have a good solution either. Such high-level confrontations were not something he could interfere in; getting any closer would be courting death.

A Fourth Rank War Professional could almost single-handedly take on the entire Squad 04. Tough nuts like that could only be cracked by Sovereignty or the strong individuals from the Blue Star Global United Defense Committee coming out of hiding, and with just the operational team of Bear Hunting Special Operations Division present, it would be pure suicide.

In gathering intelligence on human factions, the Global United Defense Committee was severely lacking, considering the organization was adept at exterminating mutants, not human adversaries.

The mere residual force from the clashes of Sword Qi was enough to threaten Chen Fei's life, even if he was wearing the "Dragon King" Single Soldier Tactical Armor, its defensive capability was probably not up to the level of the front and rear armor of a Wheeled Infantry Armored Vehicle.

You have to remember that the vehicle's front is often the most solidly built area, and even the rear armor's defense wouldn't be too much lower than that of the vehicle's sides.

Thriving on bringing mutual annihilation, the maestro of flirtation with death wasn't about instantly killing the enemy, but rather dragging them down together.

Within the range of Life Drain, all plant life perished, having even the last vestiges of vitality forcibly extracted, ensuring that no new branches would sprout in the warmth of next summer.

To prevent Akim from absorbing more vitality, "Great Sword" used his own sword style to forcefully contain him within a certain area; otherwise, once moving freely, the enemy could draw even more life force, becoming considerably more durable.

For Wood System Ability Users, vitality is combat strength; they can continue fighting fiercely without exhausting it completely.

Even though "Great Sword" had taken the upper hand, making a fatal blow was difficult unless he inflicted severe damage that would render Akim entirely immobile.

"'Great Sword,' how much longer do you need?"

"Summoner" glanced at the time and casually asked while walking.

Even though "Great Sword" had not yet subdued his opponent, Sovereignty Squad had already secured the inevitable outcome—a capture or killing of the target was just a matter of time.

Whether to capture alive or kill didn't matter; the order "Summoner" and his team received was disregard for life.

To make things easy, kill on the spot; if trouble is no object, capture alive.

"One minute!"

"Great Sword's" mental communication was calm and composed as if still in full control and everything was well in hand.

"Alright, I'll wait."

"Summoner" patiently watched his wristwatch, calmly waiting for the battle to end.

"Haah!"

The greatsword, reminiscent of a small gate, whipped up countless thin streams of water, resembling a tornado that swept towards Akim, who was still stubbornly holding out.

Suddenly, an object the size of a fist flew out.

Boom!

A blinding flash of light exploded violently.

"Disabling Bomb!"

Chen Fei reacted immediately.

People who worked as military contractors were most familiar with such devices, whether it was for a firefight with rivals or for interfering with Mutants, the Disabling Bomb with its simultaneous loud explosion and blinding flash could be used on many occasions.

Who could have thought that during a duel between two War Professionals, one side would suddenly throw a Disabling Bomb, causing a brief pause in the exchange between them.

Just as "Greatsword" was disrupted by the Disabling Bomb, Akim, who seemed to transform into a shell, didn't take the opportunity to launch a fierce attack, but instead abandoned his opponent and dashed towards the manor's gate with astonishing speed.

"Adrian, stop him!"

The "Summoner" only had time to shout.

His vision was also affected by the Disabling Bomb, but the "Sleep Demon" faced no such hindrance, its spiritual power that covered the entire manor could ignore the loud bangs and flashes of light.

The "Sleep Demon" also sensed something else.

"'Forbidden,' be careful, the target is going to break through the sheltering!"

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh... the whistling sound of the air was constant.

The Railgun Combat Rifle in the hands of "Dragon King" in his Single Soldier Tactical Armor sprayed a barrage of bullets, and Chen Fei's mouth was not idle either.

"'Adam,' calculate the trajectory, set a detonation point at fifty meters outside the manor, fire!"

The Demolition Bomb needed time to travel, so he had to lead the shot.

"Ice Wall, up!"@@novelbin@@

Susanna, a B-ranked Ice Ability User, who had regained some warmth, once again exerted her full strength to unleash her special ability.

The icy environment made it easier for Ice Special Abilities to be activated, but a constitution that wasn't resistant to the cold negated this advantage hard; it was an unavoidable situation.

A crystal clear Ice Wall rose from the ground, a full ten meters high.

And that was not the end. Another Ice Wall followed quickly after, and like this, one after another, they stood in the way towards the manor's gate.

"'Flame Tornado'!"

To avoid affecting Susanna's Ice Special Ability, the First Rank fire mage, Adrian Benjamin, chose a single-target Offensive Spell and placed it as forward as possible.

Just needing to delay for one or two more seconds, Sovereignty Squad's "Greatsword" would be able to restrain Akim, who was attempting to break out, and the rest could arrive in time to end the ultimate fate of this mission target.

"Get out of my way!"

A striking Magic Array appeared out of thin air in front of Akim, instantly bursting forth with an invisible force that penetrated everything ahead.

Adrian's "Flame Tornado" dissipated into smoke, leaving only a few sparks to fade into the air, while the Ice Walls that Susanna had struggled to erect were pierced with a hole over three meters in diameter. Even the manor's gate now had a visible circular opening, with strange sparks continuously falling through the air.

The volley of bullets from the Railgun Combat Rifle pursued Akim, whose steps never slowed even a bit, and he, rising with the fierce green Battle Qi Flame, charged out of the manor's gate through that eerie circular hole like a cannonball.

"A breach has opened in the 'Sheltering'; that was a Magic Artifact!"

The telepathic communication from "Forbidden" was filled with astonishment.

Instantly breaking through "Sheltering" was definitely not something an Earth Order powerhouse could do, even less so for a Sixth Rank.

"Quickly chase him..."

The "Summoner," who had felt confident and in control, was now somewhat flustered.

The surprise appearance of these pests unexpectedly allowed the main mission target to escape, and he had even pierced through "Forbidden's" comprehensive "Sheltering" in an instant—it was worth noting that such a Space Series ability, even heavy weaponry, would have difficulty shattering.

Before the "Summoner" could finish his telepathic communication, a blast of fire suddenly erupted outside the manor's gate, and the ferocious shockwave instantly swept through a radius of a hundred meters.

Akim, who had just charged out, found himself struck by the oncoming shockwave and blasted back through the round opening in the manor's gateway.

"'Sheltering' has been repaired, uh, the target is back!"

The emotional fluctuations in "Forbidden" had become not just astonishment, but shock.

Just when it seemed that Akim was going to get away, he was unexpectedly blown back by a sudden explosion.

System: Ding! The task of capturing alive the police chief of the Tunguska Region, Akim Vasily Ulyanov, has failed; the target is dead, deducting Energy Points -3000!

Energy Points -3000!

Energy Points: 16123/20000

Ha!

Chen Fei stood there stupefied, what the hell was going on, being hit with a deduction of 3000 Energy Points by the damn system!

Task Failure!!!

The previous bombardment was so powerful that it killed the target on the spot.

The Visual Assistance feature of the "Dragon King" Single Soldier Tactical Armor locked onto Akim, who lay face up inside the manor's gate, motionless. A twisted shard of metal was plunged into the opponent's forehead, particularly eye-catching.

This was still the outcome despite the detonation point being set to minimize injury; the original intention had been to capture him alive, to successfully complete the system's task.

But all the calculations couldn't account for an act of God.

The shockwave from the Demolition Bomb might not have been able to instantly kill an Earth Order War Professional, but the shrapnel flying with tremendous kinetic energy was another story.

With foreign objects inserted into the brain, not just an Earth Order powerhouse, even a Heavenly Order would not be able to withstand it.
