Sorcerer: I want to be an Academic Prodigy

Chapter 527: 525: Return to City Ship

Chapter 527: Chapter 525: Return to City Ship

Years slipped by like flowing water, and looking back it had already been ten years.

On the southwestern part of the Chanay Continent, Enkate City’s Thunder Clan Gate was sealed; the sorcerer towers stood tall upon the barrier, with dark thunder weaving a tight web, emanating an aura that induced dread in those who gazed upon it, and of late, this pressing sensation had intensified beyond the past.

“Hey! Those Thunder barbarians are coming again, really disturbing our peace.”

“Let them come, kill one if one comes, kill a pair if a pair comes, once we’ve killed enough of them they’ll start to behave.”

“Be careful, I’ve got a feeling something’s different this time. I’m afraid the visitors might have ill intentions.”

“What’s there to be afraid of? We have the Tower City here, and should we encounter an insurmountable crisis, we can immediately choose to retreat. What can those Thunder barbarians do to us?”

...

That day, blue-skinned figures began to appear in front of the gate, their numbers increasing rapidly, it seemed the Thunder Clan was about to knock once again, but the sorcerers on the city walls were fearless, casually pointing and discussing with the air of seasoned generals.

Their composure was, of course, underpinned by solid confidence.

As they spoke, many sorcerers glanced frequently towards the peculiar ‘Tower City’ not far off.

This uniquely shaped mini Tower City was the ‘Return City Tower’, which had actually been reported more than ten years ago to be a successful invention closely related to the teleportation array, and had garnered immense fame at the time.

Yet, the actual thing hadn’t been seen afterwards.

This led many to be secretly disappointed, with some unable to hold back their snide remarks.

It wasn’t until a little over three years ago that the Return City Towers started to be rapidly deployed, set up across various important locations in the sorcerer world, that people truly appreciated the marvels of the Return City Tower.

Since then, exclamations of admiration rose up everywhere in the sorcerer world, with no more disparaging voices to be heard.

With the Return City Tower, as long as they were within a designated range, sorcerers could activate the Return City Order when they encountered danger, teleporting to evade fatal crises.

This undoubtedly greatly increased their survival odds on the battlefield. The recent racial wars had only increased the significance of the Return City Tower, which gradually became a favored asset among sorcerers.

“Ande, do you know the scholar Marichadon who invented the Return City Tower? I heard he’s also a genius from our Chanay Continent.”

“How would I have such luck to meet such an influential figure.”

“I’ve heard a thing or two that’s related to our Enkate City’s Thunder Clan Gate. It seems someone from your family specifically made things difficult for that scholar, once obstructing his entry to the gate, isn’t that true?”

“Nonsense! Although I don’t know Scholar Marichadon personally, our Belizi family is on good terms with the scholar. A sorcerer from our family, Solomon, is an intimate friend of the scholar; their relationship can be traced back to—–”

In a corner of the city wall, Ande and his companion Beaver appeared quite at ease. Beaver gossiped eagerly about a past incident, which caused Ande of the Belizi family to react with strong dissatisfaction.

Hearing his evasive explanation, Beaver just smiled and said no more.

Seeing this, Ande sighed in resignation.

Now everyone knew that the scholar who had invented the Return City Tower had not been seen for ten years, said to be on the sorcerer sacred ground, the Peak of Truth, working diligently on advancing to an Arcane Wizard.

With the scholar’s talent, success should come soon.

This should be a cause for celebration, adding considerable strength to the sorcerer world, but if his own Belizi family indeed held a significant grudge against him, that would be somewhat regrettable.

Thinking of this, Ande felt somewhat uneasy.

He planned to pass on some messages to familiar clan members to confirm the facts, but there was new activity from the Thunder Clan side, and with a potential battle looming, he could only reluctantly let the matter go.

Time ticked away, second by second, outside the Thunder Gate, where the Thunder Clan remained active but had yet to launch an assault on the pass.

Their show of force seemed to be a mere bluff.

At the same time.

Elsewhere, in a location overlooking the expanse near ‘Wanryn Highlands,’ the Thunder Clan’s territory on the Chanay Continent, separated by a chasm filled with chaotic winds and thunder that usually hindered the passage of large groups.

There, an abnormal disturbance was now spreading.

Amid the tumultuous winds and thunder, bustling silhouettes emerged, shuttling to the southern region of the Chanay Continent. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that the Thunder Clan had engaged in strategic deception, employing a feint.

A feigned attack on the Thunder Gate, while in reality crossing into the southern part of the continent.

“So it’s you,” someone said, “I should have known the Feather Clan was here too, no wonder you could calm the chaos of the ‘Absolute Shadow Ancient Path.’

As a group emerged from the chaotic storm, before they could even catch their breath, a clear voice rang out from in front of them and reached the ears of every member of both the Thunder Clan and the Feather Clan, causing a stir in their expressions.

Along with that voice, several airships appeared in the previously empty sky in front of them.

These airships, shaped like giant birds and sharks and bearing the familiar miniature Tower City, caused the faces of the Thunder Clan to darken even further, and many internally cursed:

These sorcerers were too cunning, not only had they seen through their masterful strategy, but they had moved their petty tricks onto the airships, an utterly outrageous maneuver.

“You’ve arrived just in time,” they said, “perfect to test our sorcerers’ ‘Return City Airship.’ Is it not as exceptional as the Return City Tower?”

“Enough of your arrogance!”

Facing the taunting from the sorcerers on the opposite side, the Thunder Clan would not show weakness.

Unlike before, they too had their own confidence, especially since this time many from the Feather Clan had joined their ranks. Known as the ‘Unfallen Feathers,’ the Feather Clan was bound to give these sorcerers a taste of frustration in their inability to dominate the skies.

As is well known, the Feather Clan only sheds their own feathers, not those of others, and they love to rule the skies alone.

“Mr. Hansa, you must impress us with the prowess of your Feather Clan.”

“No problem,” they said, “as long as we, the Feather Clan, are present, we will absolutely forbid human sorcerers from flying in these skies.”

The Feather Clan consists of individuals born with one or sometimes multiple pairs of wings. The color of their wings varies, which marks the difference between the various branches of the clan.

No matter which branch they hail from, the Feather Clan shares a common ability: they have a chance to awaken a special power at a certain time— the power to forbid flight.

At this moment, the squad led by Hansa possessed precisely this ‘forbidding flight’ ability.

Hearing the words of the Thunder Clan commander Fei Wen, Hansa’s group did not hesitate, joining in a chant of some incantation, inaudible and delicate, when suddenly a faint white light emanated from their bodies and merged into the surrounding air.

“Haha, truly exceptional,” Fei Wen immediately felt a mysterious force pulling him downwards, but he was not alarmed—instead, delighted.

The next second, all members of the Thunder Clan were free from the pulling force and were able to spread their wings and fly stably through the air, and it was the same for the flying beasts they controlled.

On the other hand, their adversaries’ massive airships began to show signs of instability.

Witnessing the commotion on the other side, Fei Wen’s eyes gleamed. He heard the ‘creak creak’ sounds coming from the airships, as if they might plummet to the ground at any moment.

So much for the highly touted Return City Tower—just look at it now. Let’s see how the sorcerers can swagger this time!
