Spending My Retirement In A Game

Chapter 925 Feeling Useless

With a loud yawn, Sky stepped up to the dungeon's entrance. The others were already waiting for him there, and Bree looked at her brother surprised.

"How are you still tired? You slep almost all day yesterday," she pointed out, and Sky just shrugged in response.

"Well, I'm developing a new story right now... that kind of stuff is really damn exhausting," he explained, trying to rub the dark rings away from his eyes. Eisen also looked over toward him concerned.

Half-Feys like Sky and Bree shouldn't need to sleep all that much in the first place, but Sky really has been sleeping a ton recently. If he insisted that it was because of this new story he was working on, then Eisen would believe that for now. The stories that Sky saved in his book only got stronger the more he developed them in his mind. The more fleshed-out they became. That was especially true for stories that Sky wrote up himself from scratch. And the process of 'fleshing them out' took a ton of mental power and mana. And since Fey are specifically beings made of almost pure magic, whenever either Sky and Bree got low on mana, they became particularly lethargic and tired. Since Bree's abilities were on the lower end of how much mana they consumed, on top of just being physically quite fit, she didn't experience this too often. But Sky was different, and seemed to suffer from this quite a lot. This was still on a whole other level compared to what he usually had to deal with, though.

"If you need to take a break at any point, just say so," Eisen said, and Sky slowly nodded.

"Sure. Thanks."

The old man patted Sky on the back while walking out the dungeon's gates, and everyone quickly followed behind and got back into the carriage that was already waiting for them outside. Fafnir slowly lept down from the platform at the top of the gate, which crumbled away without a trace. After Eisen hooked the draconic dungeon up to the carriage again, it was time for them to leave. Bree sat in the front on the driver's seat together with Eisen, guiding him along with one of her abilities. It was basically just an arrow that was pointing into the correct direction, according to the path that she had determined using the scanning wisps.

"To think you got this much info in just a few hours..." Bree muttered, looking down at the paper map on her lap that had been connected to her skills. She turned her head and glanced at the old man, "What would happen if you just... didn't recall them? Would they cover the whole world?"

Eisen thought about it for a moment. Of course, given enough time, the wisps would be able to cover the entire world with ease. Sure, there would be some areas they couldn't reach; there were parts of this world that were specifically cut off from magic, or there were places that were protected and didn't let in any foreign spells, which the wisps would surely register as. But beyond those places, which would just be blind-spots, the world would surely be covered in its entirety.

"They would, but there are a lot of things to consider here beside that. While the wisps are active, they would most certainly disrupt almost any spells that are cast around them, and that isn't even mentioning all the monsters that interact with their surroundings by sensing magic somehow. It would completely mess up a lot of different ecosystems in this world," Eisen explained to her, and Bree nodded her head in understanding.

"Oh... yeah, okay, that makes sense," Bree said, looking back down at her map, "Is there any way to do this at a larger scale, though?"

Eisen smiled at the girl next to him, "Why are you so interested in this? Is there something you're looking for?"

Bree quickly shook their head, "No, no, it's not like that, but... I've been thinking about how I could maybe help out a bit more. I'm really just following you around a lot, and you can do so much stuff even without me. Really, you don't even need me to look at these maps, but you're being nice enough to let me help."

"Bree, that's not-"

"It's fine, I understand," she replied, not moving her eyes away from the map, "You've been helping me since we met. Even when I was just a waitress in the inn, you came and helped me out when I was insulted. You even got into a duel for me... Ever since then, I've only been receiving help from you. I don't know how to pay you back for that... so, I thought that maybe if I could create a map of the whole world, and fill it in properly, I could... you know..."@@novelbin@@

Eisen smiled at Bree, placing his hand onto her head. Though Bree might look quite young, she was a fully-fledged adult. Of course she wouldn't want to be coddled all the time, "I really appreciate that. Though it's not like we can just scan the whole world, we can find a way to..." the old man said, before stopping himself. He thought about it for a few more moments, "What sort of information does your scan get you? For the wisps, I only needed the physical form of places, but you can get other things, right?"

Bree quickly nodded, "Yes! So, as a baseline, I can get geographical information, temperature, humidity, wind-direction, and things like that when it comes to large-scale scans. Though those reach only really for about a mile. And then, for short-scale scans, I can get things like the exact chemical composition of the air, the physical structure of any living being I scan directly, and can even identify plants, monsters, and so on."

"Oh? It's like an inspection skill?" Eisen asked. To be truly honest, he hadn't been keeping up with Bree much recently... and he certainly regretted it, especially seeing how desperate she was to just help for the sake of helping. He didn't even know that her abilities had developed this much. Though, Bree quickly shook her head, explaining further.

"It's nothing like that! But I have a database skill, right? It's where I store most of the scan information I get long-term. I can save other types of information in there as well, so most of what I read or hear that's of use is put in there. I didn't really understand any of the chemical or biological stuff, but I asked Jyuuk to explain it to me! I studied really, really hard to properly understand it, and now I can use any information I actually understand to expand the range of my scans."

Eisen continued to think for a while. He ran his fingers through his beard, thinking. Bree was always smart, but this was something else. Understanding all of those things so comprehensively in such a short time wasn't an easy matter in the slightest. If this is what Bree wanted to do, then Eisen should do everything he could to properly help her grow.

"Hm... Well... with how many players there are these days, there are numerous people selling maps of the central continent and supplemented information. Frankly, the exchange of information of the younger generations gets harder and harder to keep up with," the old man sighed lightly, "I will ask Komer to buy up as many maps as he can get his hands on. And I'll ask Benji to see if he can get some extra information from the internet to you. I heard there is a forum online where a lot of information is gathered, and it should be possible to transfer... so, if we can manage that..." Eisen said, looking at Bree with a grin, and the half-fey girl understood before he had to spell it out.

"Then I could gather all the information from the players in one spot... and create the most comprehensive map of the central continent and its current happenings that ever existed!" a broad grin appeared on Bree's face. The sheer idea seemed to make her so giddy that she could barely contain herself, and Eisen was more than happy to see this.

"Exactly so," the old man replied with a nod, "I will talk to the two of them as soon as I can. By the time we get back to Prototype, maybe we can already get the process started."
