Chapter 164 - 164: The Heroes

[3rd POV]

Taking off, Gwen began to make her way towards Loki, but at the same time, the others were hard at work, already starting to save people.

With Logan, the man was doing exactly as Gwen had suggested, running through the streets below, and the buildings, ripping and tearing through every chitauri that got in his way, his adamantium claws slicing through them like they were made of paper.

"Damn things are everywhere" Logan growled, ignoring the laser blast that slammed against his back, as he instantly regenerated from it like it never even happened. The laser blasts weren't even that strong in the first place, at least, in comparison to the times he and Gwen would spar, her strikes hurt a hell of a lot more.

"Help!" A scream echoed through the halls of the apartment complex he was sprinting through. Hearing the scream, his senses flaring as he heard them. Turning a left corner, he sprinted full force, launching himself in front of a blast that was threatening to hit a young woman and her child who looked to be around 4-5 years old.

"You two alright?" Logan asked, looking them over as she nodded fearfully, while the child watched in slight awe as her savior turned and struck with his claws, killing the chitauri before it could fire again.

"Get to the bottom floor with the others, you'll be safe there" Logan said, as the woman nodded rapidly.

"But what about th-those things, aren't there more of them!" She asked, as Logan glanced at her.

"All those uglies are dead on the lower floors, so you'll be fine" Logan said, as he began to run off, only to stop when the little kid asked a question.

"What's your name, Mr Hero?" The child asked with childlike awe, as Logan glanced back at her, before smirking, his mask over his face.

"You can call me Wolverine, kid" Logan said, before sprinting off, ready to save more lives.

With Bobby, aka the Iceman, he was dealing with a hell of a lot more chitauri than Logan. Sliding through the streets of New York, icing all the chitauri he saw, while creating barriers of powerful ice in order to block entrances to buildings, keeping those inside safe so long as it didn't melt.

"Damn, Gwen didn't tell me there were this many!" Bobby grumbled, as he slid past a chitauri, placing a singular hand on it as he instantly froze it to pieces. None of them could handle his ice, shattering instantly as he coated tem in it.

Turning a corner, Bobby blinked several times as he noticed something that was different than the other chitauri, it was bigger, stronger, and seemed to look similar to a gorilla or something of the sort. It was also in the process of crushing a police car, as the officers fired at it with all their might, but that didn't really do much to whatever the beast was.

"Gwen didn't say anything about that either!" Bobby exclaimed, as he began to blast it from afar, causing it to let out a roar of pain, ice beginning to cover it's entire form, stopping it in its tracks as it's legs were frozen to the ground.

Moving closer, he formed a sharp piece of ice, firing it into the skull of the beast, after using his ice path to dodge, killing the creature, as it thudded to the ground, a soft crack sounding out as it did.

"You guys alright?" Bobby asked, looking at the officers who looked at one another before nodding.

"Yeah, thanks kid. You uh, you one of those mutant folk we hear about on the news?" The man asked.

"And if I am?"

"Then I think the media is full of shit, spouting off about your folk being evil or whatever. No evil person would do what you just did" The man said with a scoff, as Bobby stared at him, before smiling.

"Well, thanks then, glad someone understands. You guys should probably focus on getting the civilians into the bottom floors of buildings, we can handle the invaders" Bobby said, as the man nodded, and began to give out orders to those around him.

"Oh, and my name is Iceman, not kid!" Bobby yelled back behind him, as he took off, leaving a chuckling man, before he got back to work.

With Ororo, aka Storm, she was flying high above, raining lightning and storm upon the chitauri that continued to pour through the large portal, dozens of lightning strikes raining down upon them, killing them with a singular blow.

'Cursed things keep coming!' Ororo through, frowning as she continued to rain lightning upon the invaders, killing them in hordes, and yet, they continued to flood in, barely being stopped as more and more flooded through.

'We must find wherever they are coming from, and stop it from it's source' Ororo realized, as she brought down another Leviathan, a massive beast that was genetically modified by the chitauri for transport and as weapons. Each one that was taken down, would disappear moments later, as if they never were there in the first place.

As she continued to rain hell upon the creatures, she looked to the side, before noticing a group of people on top of one of the larger buildings. Seeing that they were about to get attacked by one of the chitauri on one of their transports, she flew over.

"Begone foul creatures!" Storm bellowed, as she electrocuted the attackers before they could do anything.

"Civilians, get to the bottom floor of the building, you shall be safe there!" Storm yelled, as they all looked at one another before nodding.

"Thank you!" A man yelled, before pulling a woman alongside him, running off to the bottom floors. They didn't have much of a choice right now, so they just trusted the woman that just saved them, no...the hero that just saved them.

With Jean, aka Marvel Girl, she was having a bit of an easier time, as she flew lower, through the skyscrapers, finding any citizens she could and taking them down to the bottom floors.

That was, until she started to run into mind controlled citizens. She found that Gwen was right when she said that she could take care of them, ripping the control over them away. But she had also begun to realize that her control over the mind was...a lot stronger than she thought it was.

She had always used it only on Gwen and Xavier, two people that could handle her telepathy and any possible problems that could arise because of it. It was through this that she gained control. But now that she was using it on regular humans that were being mind controlled, she was beginning to realize just how monstrously strong she was in the mind.

Holding her hand out, she extended her reach into the minds of over 250 people that were marching through the city in front of her, her overbearing mind slamming into the control that was turning them into puppets, and effortlessly shattering it, all the while, unknowingly, her eyes glowed a soft orange color, akin to flames.

"Wha-what just happened?!" A woman exclaimed as she looked around in horror, upon noticing the situation, and the weapon in her hand, as she remembered what she had done to an innocent woman, tears beginning to streak from her eyes.

"Everyone! I understand that you're confused and terrified, but you must get into cover! Find any building and stay on its bottom floor, you'll be safe there! This'll end soon, I promise!" Jean spoke out, as everyone heard her thanks to telepathy.

"Why should we listen to you!? For all we know, you could be one of those freak mutants! You could have controlled us!" A man yelled, as Jean frowned.

"If I was evil, would I have freed you from that mind control? Now get in the damn buildings!" Jean said, glaring fiercely at the fools that didn't listen, once again unknowingly letting out a burst of orange fiery energy.

At the glare, they all paled and did what they were told, leaving Jean, who just sighed.

'Hopefully Gwen is having luck with Loki'

With Gwen, she was finally making it to Avengers tower, where Loki was. The Nuke that was supposed to hit the city mysteriously disappeared, now disarmed within her Gate of Babylon for potential future use.

As she leapt onto the terrace of the top of the building, she stood across from Loki, who had an arrogant smirk on his face.

"So you must be the mortal that leads the worms down there" Loki said, looking her over as a scowl formed on his face.

"You cannot stop what is happening! Give up and perhaps I will spare you, mo-" "Yeah no thank you, I'd rather not surrender to a guy who had sex with a horse and got pregnant" Gwen cut him off with a disgusted look, as Loki snarled.

"You!" "Me!" Gwen gasped, acting terrified as she laughed, a beam of energy flying past her, shattering the windows behind her.

"I'll kill you, you cunt!" Loki yelled, furious as she...poked his eye?

"Wow, that is some vulgar language mister Trickster!" Gwen mockingly gasped, as the man snarled again, only to get poked in his other eye, all the while, Gwen had one thought on her mind.

'...This is going to be fun!'
