Chapter 433: Special Units Dispatched
Inside one of the larger halls in the Xu family's subspace, things were already starting to move.
This wasn't a public hall or a place where regular disciples trained. This one was deeper, closer to the family's internal barracks.
Most people didn't come here unless something serious was happening.
Today was one of those days.
The air inside the building was filled with low chatter as multiple squads stood in loose formation, waiting.
These were the Xu family's special units—elite groups formed from high-grade family cards, hand-picked for strength, teamwork, and flexibility.
They were trained for tough jobs.
And right now, they had just been summoned.
The room quieted the moment two figures stepped inside.
Liu Meiying stepped into the hall dressed in her refined black robe embroidered with golden threads shaped like phoenix feathers.
Her long hair was tied in a high ponytail, and a delicate jade hairpin glinted faintly under the soft spiritual lights. She looked composed and sharp-eyed, her presence steady as always.
Beside her was Bai Lingyun, wearing a deep green robe with flowing sleeves and cloud-pattern embroidery stitched across the hem.
A small pouch filled with talismans hung neatly at her side, and her hair was loose around her shoulders.
Even though she'd clearly been busy nonstop, her aura was calm and focused, ready to get things done.
"Alright," Bai Lingyun said, stepping forward. "You're probably wondering why we called you out without warning."
The special units standing in formation didn't speak, but every one of them was locked in.
"We're not wasting time," Liu Meiying added. "We received fresh reports. The beast faction's changing tactics."
"They're not charging cities anymore," Bai Lingyun said. "They're going after our roots—spirit veins, cultivation fields, rare mines. The kind of places that actually matter in the long run."
That got a few reactions. Small nods, eyes narrowing, postures shifting slightly. They all understood what that meant.
"We've been given key zones to secure," Liu Meiying continued. "Patriarch marked them personally.
You're going to move out quietly. Blend in with regular patrols. No big formations, no heavy spiritual pressure. We want this to look like routine work."
She passed a scroll to each squad leader.
"These contain your routes and coordinates. You'll work in groups of ten. No banners, no family markings. Low profile."
"The idea is to get there, scout the surroundings, lay down quiet defensive formations, and be ready if something goes wrong," Bai Lingyun said.
"We're not asking you to hold the front by yourselves. Just slow them down, confuse them, and make sure we're not caught off guard."
One captain asked, "Do we have backup nearby?"
"You will," Liu Meiying nodded. "We're placing support teams between regions. You're not alone. If things go bad, you fall back. Got it?"
"Yes, ma'am," the captains replied.
"Gear up," Bai Lingyun said. "Grab your spirit armor, formation slips, concealment seals, and short-range transmission tokens.
Everyone needs to carry their safety storage bags with healing and detoxification pills which are needed. And no, don't bring the flashy ones. Keep it subtle."
Behind them, the squads began preparing quickly. Storage rings opened quietly as cultivators pulled out compact spiritual gear—light spiritual armor that enhanced movement, formation scrolls sealed in talisman pouches, mid-grade concealment cloaks, and hand-forged spirit weapons designed for speed and silence.
They weren't dressing for war.
They were getting ready for the quiet battles. The ones fought in the shadows.
Liu Meiying checked the list of captains again. "Xu Wenli's team goes to the northeast zone. Xu Muhan will handle the western hills.
And Xu Ruyin will take the ridge to the north. The rest of you will rotate through neighboring areas and help stabilize spiritual flow while watching for any odd movement."
"No large-scale spiritual releases," Bai Lingyun reminded them. "And if you see a high-tier beast—don't engage unless you're certain you can take it down fast. Report and retreat if necessary."
Another soldier raised his hand. "What if they move in big groups?"
"Same rule applies," Liu Meiying said. "We're not chasing them. We're watching them."
"Shadows will be nearby too," Bai Lingyun added. "They'll be handling deep recon and info relay. You focus on containment and observation."
The squads nodded again and began double-checking their kits.
One of the younger soldiers was quietly fastening a talisman to his belt when an older team member patted him on the shoulder.
"Relax. You're not alone out there. Just stay sharp, and don't do anything flashy."
Another whispered from the side, "This might be boring, but boring means the plan is working."
One of the more experienced members smiled at that. "Boring saves lives."
After another few minutes of final prep, the teams began moving out.
Instead of large teleport formations, they used short-range spirit steps and camouflaged tunnels built under the subspace.
These routes linked to safe zones near each assigned location, specifically chosen to avoid detection.
Liu Meiying stood near the back of the hall, watching the teams vanish one by one.
She turned to Bai Lingyun. "We'll need to prepare a follow-up rotation. Just in case the first wave needs to be pulled back."
Bai Lingyun nodded. "Already have a second group on standby. They're just waiting for the word."
"We're going to be stretched thin if the beasts hit multiple spots at once."
"We'll deal with it. Just like we always do."
They paused for a moment, both quietly watching the map on the wall light up as new markers appeared—representing each squad as they reached their positions.
"Looks like we have taken care of most of the possible disasters," Liu Meiying finally said.
"Yeah," Bai Lingyun agreed. "But that doesn't mean we get lazy now."
"True, but we can see how the power being these are and see if I can reduce the population which might be hard, but worth a try."
With that, the last scroll was sealed, and the command center returned to calm silence—at least on the surface.
But the units were already moving. Quiet. Ready. Hidden. Just like they were trained.
What do you think?
