Chapter 371 The emperor's wrong decision

"Speaking of the cracks, does this mean the next generation might have to actually deal with demons?" Another hero asked. He was a tall dude with an average-looking face and body, nothing special about him, aside from the fact that there were two swords on his back.

He was Spark, the hero of flames. His fire was said to rival the heat of Daegon, though that was only a myth that had never been tested.

"I believe that it's possible. Everything happened too fast for us to handle it. Our time is pretty much over," Daegon said.

"Why do I feel all of this still has something to do with Silva?" Storm said.

The first wave of soldiers sent for the war came entirely from the empire. It was a mighty army, consisting of over five thousand trained knights of high level and one thousand evolved knights.

A thousand tamed wyvern riders took to the skies to dominate from above. The wyverns were used most of the time to taunt the dragon race and the wyverns.

Humans, for hundreds of years, have been taking wyverns and other races, capturing them and forcing them to fight against themselves.

Beyond the brutality of the war, it was also a psychological attack on their enemy, a move to make the army hesitant.

And if they fought, they would be forever stuck in the trauma of killing their own kind. It was a move below the belt, but all was fair in war.

The army was only a starter army. Meeting the armies of the demon kings, they had no idea what the battle would look like. But for all the years that had passed, the demon kings sent out the orcs and the goblins, the pawns that would kickstart the war.

The empire expected it to be the same. They had not heard from the heroes, though, as the heroes had been quiet since the beginning of the issue.

The emperor and the pope had tried to reach them. Even members of the original families had tried to reach them, but it was to no avail, as the heroes seemingly wanted to be quiet about the issue.

And since the heroes refused to respond, the pope and the original families all decided that the first move belonged to the empire.

The emperor decided to play by the books and start it out softly, probing the situation. There was no way that could backfire, right?

The army had already begun their march from the empire, and their destination: the Valley of Blood. They could not be teleported because the Valley of Blood blocked all that out. It was a place that disrupted magic of all sorts, especially teleportation.

The emperor stood on the balcony, watching the armies depart and the wyverns flying away. The people of the capital cheered in happiness as they watched this as well.

"It's been a while, Julius." The emperor heard a voice that sent shivers down his spine, the voice of a man he revered and feared, the man who had given him the demon blood.

He turned around, fell to the ground, and hit his head on the floor in a full bow. "Master, you finally returned," Julius spoke with full reverence.

"There is no need to be dramatic, Julius. You have been doing so well so far, and now I need your help for the final part of why I gave you that blood. It is time for you to make the key," the man spoke.

Julius looked up in shock. Was this really happening? He rose to his feet, looking at the handsome man with white hair and blue eyes.

"Julius, I need you to carry out the ritual to summon the demon that you will control. I have prepared additional things that will make it so that this demon you summon will be far stronger than you can imagine.

You will rid this world of the other races, and you will bring freedom to every human. It will be the great cleansing," the man said.

The more Julius heard, the more excited he got. Would he really bring an end to all those races? Would all this war finally come to an end, and humans be the winners?

His lust for destroying the other races clouded his judgment. All he could think about was the possibility of cleansing this world, and the opportunity was offered to him right now. Of course, he was taking it.

"Tell me what to do. Whatever you ask, I'll do it," he said.

"I have been watching you, and I know that you have made a grand magical circle, the circle that draws life to summon the demon.

But for the demon I want you to summon, some lives will not be enough. This whole capital might be needed for that," the man said.

Julius's eyes opened wide in shock. "You want me to take the life of the entire capital?" he asked.

"Don't look at it like that. You are an emperor; you should be able to see the bigger picture. A few million lives are nothing compared to absolute victory.

Their lives will pave the way for you to gain the greatest weapon, one that nothing can stand against," he said, trying to sway the emperor.

"Your wisdom brought us this far and made the empire greater than it was. I'll follow what you have said. The people here are only a small fraction of humanity.

So how do I make it so that the magical circle uses them all?" Julius asked.

"That part you can leave to me. All I need is to see this magical circle, and I'll help you channel it over the whole capital.

Then we will summon a true demon, one capable of killing all of your enemies, and I mean all."

The promises got to the emperor's head. The sight of victory made him greedy. He could not stop himself from the thought of controlling a demon and destroying his enemies. The thought made him forget about everything else.
