Chapter 29 – Veiled warning
He wanted her to submit, but she was determined to make him bow.
He lowered his head to kiss her lips, his long fingers clasping the back of her head, burrowing into her hair, kissing her forcefully, as if venting, yet also like a punishment.
She was kissed until she could hardly breathe, her tongue numb, her lips sore from biting. She pushed at him, trying to break free, but upon opening her eyes, she saw the fierce look in his, and her body trembled, suddenly regretting provoking him.
"It hurts…"
His warm hand slid under the hem of her knitted sweater, touching her smooth skin, the anger from being challenged instantly swallowed by desire, wanting only to possess her.
Suddenly, the phone rang.
Xiang-Nuan, as if finding a savior, quickly said, "Your phone."
She added, "Someone calling this late must be urgent."
A vein throbbed on his forehead, he took a deep breath, released her, and picked up the phone.
Xiang-Nuan, like a rabbit, bounced out of his embrace, instantly putting three meters between them.@@novelbin@@
His gaze swept over her, impatiently answering the call, "Grandfather."
"What's this about today's news?" the old Mr. Shen spoke sharply.
He opened the balcony door, stepping out into the cold breeze to clear his head, his tone casual, "It's just as it is."

"You and that little star causing a stir, who would feel secure giving their daughter to you? I told you to consider marriage, have you thought about it?"
He pulled a cigarette from the pack, placing it between his lips, "Haven't thought about it yet."
"You!" The old man was choked with anger.
He chuckled, "Calm down, Grandfather. How is it good for you to damage your health over such a trivial matter?"
"You know you're angering me? Yanshi, Shen Group is in your hands now because I believe you can shoulder great responsibilities. Don't disappoint me." His words carried a veiled warning.
He held the cigarette between his fingers, leaning on the railing, his eyes dark in the night, yet his tone remained casual.
"It's just a woman. If Grandfather doesn't like her, I'll just send her away later."
Xiang-Nuan had just reached the glass door of the balcony, about to open it to bring him a glass of water, but her steps faltered, and she silently withdrew her hand upon hearing his words.
"Yanshi, you've always been the one to give me peace of mind. Don't be like your father; look further ahead."
"I understand, rest assured, Grandfather."
After hanging up the call, it wasn't long before Assistant Lin's call came through.
"President Shen, I've just received news that the Hongrui City project has been handed over to Shen Jun by the old man."
His lips curled coldly, "I know."
The land was something Shen Yanshi had gone through great lengths to secure, and now with a single word from the old man, it was handed over to someone else to benefit.
In the end, it was nothing more than a warning for his disobedience, but for Shen Jun, this was a golden opportunity.
He took a drag from his cigarette, crushed the butt in the ashtray, his eyes emanating a cold light.
Shen Yanshi came in from the balcony; Xiang-Nuan was no longer in the living room. He opened the bedroom door, and there she was, sitting on the bed reading a script.
"Are you done with your work?"
He walked to the bed, ruffled her hair, "I have something to attend to, I need to leave first."
"Oh." She wasn't surprised; a call this late usually meant an emergency, and of course, he wouldn't stay.
Xiang-Nuan thought he should be getting up to leave now, but he didn't move.
After a moment, she said, "Then be careful on the road."
"Aren't you going to ask where I'm going?"
Xiang-Nuan paused, was that something she should ask?
What do you think?
