Chapter 40 – He's still the same
"I heard that Xiang-Nuan's contract with Newstar is about to expire, and President Shen seems to be getting engaged. I'm worried there might be some unexpected changes..." Lee-Zheng probed cautiously.
"Who told you that?"
"I heard..." His words circled on his tongue before Lee-Zheng took a detour.
"I heard it from Zheng Xuanlin. She mentioned that Xiang-Nuan's contract with Newstar is ending, and they're considering replacing the female lead with another Newstar actress. When I heard that, I couldn't just sit by! I had to come and understand President Shen's intentions."
"If Director Lee says the filming is going smoothly, then there's no need for changes. You can handle it, Director."
Lee-Zheng's eyes lit up, and he immediately said, "That's our President Shen! Come, let me toast to you once more!"
"Please take good care of Xiang-Nuan," Shen Yanshi added.
Lee-Zheng was stunned. What did that mean? Wasn't their relationship over?
His eyes darted around, and he quickly smiled, "Of course, of course. Anyone entrusted by President Shen, I dare not neglect. Xiang-Nuan is truly outstanding, and I have high hopes for her. Rest assured, President Shen."
After the meal, Lee-Zheng truly felt relieved. No matter the reason, as long as the lead actress wasn't replaced, that was all that mattered.
The filming was progressing to its peak, and if he had to replace the carefully selected lead actress with some random person, he would be ready to throw in the towel immediately!
On the way back to the company, Shen Yanshi sat in the backseat, resting with his eyes closed.
He suddenly asked, "Has the issue with Zheng Xuanlin been resolved from yesterday?"
"It's been taken care of. Zheng Xuanlin said the public opinion has been suppressed. We're giving Miss Xiang the cold treatment for now, letting the PR handle the aftermath. Also, those people we caught have been traced back to Zhuang Linna's instigation."
Assistant Lin added, "She's a rival in the industry to Miss Xiang. In the past two years, Miss Xiang's rise has taken a big market share from her, probably making her jealous."
These kinds of things were common in the entertainment circle, all about scheming and plotting.
Shen Yanshi's voice was cold, "Now that we know who it is, teach her a lesson."
Assistant Lin paused, then quickly understood, "Understood."
He was still puzzled. Hadn't they already had a falling out? Why was he still helping Miss Xiang?
From his understanding of President Shen, the harsh words Miss Xiang said yesterday were enough for her to be done for a hundred times over…@@novelbin@@
He stole a glance at Shen Yanshi in the rearview mirror. His expression was indifferent, showing no emotional fluctuations, and Assistant Lin didn't dare to ask any further.

Xiang-Nuan took a half-day off to visit a sanatorium.
The high-end sanatorium had a pleasant environment. Xiang-Nuan, holding flowers, walked in, and the nurse at the reception desk, already familiar with her, directed her immediately, "Aunt Xiang is outside sunbathing."
"Thank you."
Xiang-Nuan walked out to the balcony, where a frail middle-aged woman sat in a wheelchair, quietly enjoying the sun.
She approached and squatted in front of her, "Mom."
Xiang Hui opened her eyes, her surprise lighting them up, "Nuan-Nuan is here."
"Yes, I bought you flowers." Xiang-Nuan handed the bunch of sunflowers to her.
Xiang Hui chided her gently, "You shouldn't waste money on flowers just to see me."
But as she looked at the flowers, she couldn't stop smiling.
"I've been too busy lately, I haven't had time to visit you."
"Oh, it's alright. I have doctors and nurses here with me. You don't need to come. Focus on your work. Is filming going well?"
"Yes, very smoothly."
Xiang Hui had suffered a severe head injury and her emotions were unstable, fluctuating often. Xiang-Nuan didn't let her use a mobile phone and had instructed the medical staff not to talk to her about her own matters.

Xiang Hui was unaware of the outside world while in the sanatorium, and Xiang-Nuan always assured her that everything was fine whenever she visited.
"Mom, let's go back to your room."
As Xiang-Nuan pushed her back to the room, she suddenly noticed another bunch of sunflowers on the bedside table.
Xiang-Nuan paused, "Has someone come to visit you?"
Xiang Hui smiled, "Yes, Little Qin came by yesterday. I haven't seen him in years, but he's still the same, talking with me for a long time. Such a thoughtful kid."
Xiang-Nuan pursed her lips, her eyes cast down.
What do you think?
