Chapter 3412: A Showdown
Furthermore, they had already produced 500 microarray bombs. Lu Yin had brought this particular technology back from the alternate timeline. Before, the technology had not been discovered until more than twenty years after the Spirit Nidus’s invasion. But now, Lu Yin had brought it forward, and the technology had been developed far in advance.
While there were only 500 bombs, the resources used to make them could have instead made more than a thousand normal microarrays.
Additionally, there were also the sequence particle sensors.
This technology had been specifically designed to detect sequence particles. Previously, the devices had played a significant role in finding hidden powerhouses such as Old Mo and the Seven Skygods.
In the River of Aeons’ branch stream, the Heavens Sect had also used the sensors while searching for Spirit Nidus cultivators who had fled from the battlefield.
These sequence particle sensors were particularly effective at detecting fluctuations in the laws of the universe.
If Lu Yin ever made his way to the Spirit Nidus, he did not doubt for a moment that he would have to rely on the sequence particle sensors. After all, the Spirit Nidus had their eighty-eight sequence techniques.
The Tianyuan Megaverse’s rapid transformation had come about through the Mirari Realm.
When Lu Yin brought a group of mecha pilots and black energy converter users to the stone gate at the boundary, the impact was overwhelming.
Even Chu Yi and other Ortusers were rendered speechless by the sight.Even during the ancient Heavens Sect era, they had never had this many peak powerhouse-level combatants, and that was even ignoring the 5,000 soldiers in the Tianyuan Army. A single volley from that army was no different from 5,000 Progenitors simultaneously attacking. This was an unprecedented accomplishment throughout history.
All that remained was to wait for the Spirit Nidus’s invasion.
In order to prepare for all contingencies, Lu Yin had asked Mister Mu to suppress the sequence strings at the Immemorial Citadel in place of the Origin Progenitor. This way, the Origin Progenitor would be free to take action. This was Lu Yin’s plan for the High Seraph.
Only the Origin Progenitor was capable of facing the High Seraph head-on.
One year later, according to Lu Yin’s calculations, the Spirit Nidus was set to arrive the following day.
At that moment, the stone gate would open.
In the alternate timeline, Lu Yuan had noticed the stone gate opening, and he had immediately tried to retreat, only to be surrounded and attacked by Palace Master Yao and the president of the Spirit Nidus’s Chamber of Commerce.
If Lu Yin and the others had not arrived in time, Lu Yuan might not have survived the encounter.
In the current timeline, Lu Yuan was still waiting at the stone gate, but this time, Lu Yin and many others had surrounded the area. They were prepared to attack at any moment. Lu Yin’s plan was to ambush the invasion.
Time passed, second by second. The day eventually passed, but there was still no sign of any movement from beyond the stone gate.
Lu Yin frowned. Could Tian Ci’s death have raised the Spirit Nidus’s wariness?
In the River of Aeons’ branch stream, Tian Ci had been outside the stone gate to rendezvous with the Spirit Nidus’s battleship. With him absent, an unexpected variable had appeared for the Spirit Nidus’s side.
However, it should not have caused any significant changes to the sequence of events. The vanguard had used the major springboard to travel from the Spirit Nidus, despite the great risks involved in using it. This meant that it had only taken them ten years to reach the Tianyuan Megaverse. That, combined with the Spirit Nidus’s innate disdain for the Tianyuan Megaverse, meant that there was no way the vanguard would retreat. The invasion was inevitable.
As long as the vanguard arrived, there would be no way to avoid war.
Lu Yin and the others had been focusing on minimizing their own casualties.
Time continued to pass, and yet the stone gate remained motionless.
Ten days passed, then a month, and then six months, but the stone gate still remained inactive.
Half a year went by. They continued to wait for almost two years, but the stone gate still showed no hint of any movement.
Lu Yin’s heart sank. It appeared that the invasion would not be arriving. Even when considering any potential discrepancies in the timing between the two timelines, a difference of two years was too long.
Why had the invading forces never arrived? The Spirit Nidus would not have simply abandoned their plans to conquer the Tianyuan Megaverse. Could the High Seraph have avoided the temporal reversion? That was the only possible explanation for why no invasion had come.
But that also did not make any sense. If the High Seraph had avoided time rolling back, he should have stayed in the Tianyuan Megaverse, not returned to the Spirit Nidus.
What was going on?
Lu Yin thought back to what the High Seraph had said when time had started to roll back. The man had some understanding of karma, and he had mentioned something similar to what Wei Nu had said.
Because of that, Lu Yin had speculated that, if High Seraph had successfully avoided the temporal reversion, his smartest move would not be to attack Lu Yin, but rather to hide the karmic causes that Lu Yin needed to resolve. Doing so would cause the resulting karmic backlash to kill Lu Yin without the High Seraph ever needing to do so much as lift a finger.
However, if the High Seraph had managed to avoid the temporal reversion, he should have stayed in the Tianyuan Megaverse and not returned to the Spirit Nidus.
The Origin Progenitor’s voice broke the silence. "It looks like the Spirit Nidus won’t be coming."
"Why not?" Lu Yin asked.
The Origin Progenitor looked at Lu Yin. "It’s possible that the High Seraph is actually a Semi-Immortal."
Lu Yin was puzzled. "A Semi-Immortal?"
The Origin Progenitor nodded. "You know about how the Boundary Guardians ambushed me. Well, that happened at the exact moment I overcame Dukkha and became a Semi-Immortal.
"Reaching the limits as a Dukkhan isn’t simply a stage of Dukkha—it means that a person has overcome Dukkha and stepped onto the path of becoming an Immortal. If I had completed that path, I would have become an Immortal."
Lu Yin was stunned. This was his first time hearing that the Origin Progenitor had already overcome Dukkha and was only a step away from becoming an Immortal.
The Origin Progenitor sighed. He was only explaining how he had attempted to achieve Immortality because of his suspicions that the High Seraph might have already overcome Dukkha. That would have allowed the man to retain his memories even after time had rolled back.
Lu Yin felt something weigh heavily on his heart. "If that’s true, then the High Seraph can achieve Immortality even without resetting the Lesser Spirit or the Tianyuan megaverses. If that’s true, then why is he hiding the Lesser Spirit Megaverse?"
The Origin Progenitor shook his head. "I don’t know. After all, I never reached the end of that path. Over all these years, there’s no doubt that the High Seraph has progressed further than I."
Lu Yin frowned. The Origin Progenitor had not shared any of this information with him before, though it also did not change anything. Regardless of whether the Spirit Nidus’s invasion arrived, Lu Yin needed to be prepared for it.
The biggest problem at the moment was if the High Seraph had really retained his memories and if he had recalled the Spirit Nidus invasion force because of that. If that was what had happened, then Lu Yin would have to travel to the Spirit Nidus to resolve his incomplete karma with individuals such as the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Bao Qi.
The High Seraph was waiting for Lu Yin in the Spirit Nidus.
A trap had already been prepared.
This was the High Seraph’s overall strategy, but Lu Yin had no choice but to follow the path that had been laid out for him.
The Spirit Nidus awaited him. It was a place where he would constantly walk on the edge of life and death.
After waiting a while longer, Lu Yin finally came to terms with reality: he needed to go to the Spirit Nidus.
While having the Tianyuan Megaverse be the battlefield was disadvantageous to him, going to the Spirit Nidus would be even worse. It would be no different from how the Spirit Nidus’s cultivators had constantly faced ambushes while attacking the Tianyuan Megaverse.
Lu Yin could already imagine the ambushes he would have to face as soon as he reached the Spirit Nidus.
This was not how he had envisioned visiting the Spirit Nidus.
He would have to step into a trap that had been meticulously prepared for him. Who knew what the High Seraph had in store for him?
As the stone gate slowly opened, Yuan Qi appeared resigned. He was surrounded by Ortusers, and even the Origin Progenitor was present. There was no chance of the Seraph escaping.
"Lord Lu, are you really going to the Spirit Nidus?" Yuan Qi asked.
Lu Yin looked at the man. "What? You don’t want to go back?"
"Of course I do, but the High Seraph is too powerful. This will be very dangerous," Yuan Qi replied.
The people nearby exchanged odd looks. Should Yuan Qi really be giving them this kind of warning?
Lu Yin understood Yuan Qi’s thoughts. The Seraph wanted to reset the Lesser Spirit Megaverse and get a piece of that pie. He was testing Lu Yin’s confidence.
Lu Yin remained silent and simply imprisoned Yuan Qi in the Heavens Sect once more.
He was determined to take Yuan Qi and Zhan Yan to the Spirit Nidus, but first, the springboard needed to be built.
With the stone gate open, Lu Yin enlisted Chu Yi, Lu Yuan, and Wu Tian to construct the springboard.
Fortunately, Lu Yin had learned the method to build a springboard from Meng Sang during the previous timeline. Without that knowledge, they would have been stuck in the Tianyuan Megaverse. Then, Lu Yin would have no choice but to await his karmic backlash.
With three Ortusers working together, they should be able to complete the springboard in just one year, instead of three.
One year later, an expedition set out for the Spirit Nidus.
Lu Yin was not the only one responsible for going to the Spirit Nidus. Unlike when he had infiltrated the Perennial World or the Sixverse Association along, this time, there were two megaverses at war, and there was also a massive trap waiting for him.
To begin with, Astral Anura and the Verdant Sage were accompanying Lu Yin without any question, as well as the Megalith and the Pridebeast. The two beasts were too unpredictable for Lu Yin to leave them unattended in the Heavens Sect.
Yuan Qi and Zhan Yan were essential to the expedition, as they would serve as Lu Yin’s guides and help him navigate in the Spirit Nidus.
Next, Lu Yin needed to choose which experts from the Tianyuan Megaverse would accompany him.
Traveling to the Spirit Nidus would be beyond dangerous. The High Seraph possessed overwhelming power, and there was also the unfathomable Master Qing Cao. Even just the sheer number of experts in the Spirit Nidus weighed heavily on everyone’s minds.
Even so, many volunteered to accompany Lu Yin, and they proactively sought him out.
The Three Realms and Six Daos, the Three Suns and Six Rulers, and even the Outer Eight Paths—not one of those people had stepped back.
All of them understood that this was a war between megaverses, not some personal vendetta of Lu Yin’s. If Lu Yin fell in the Spirit Nidus, then the Tianyuan Megaverse would face the threat of being reset sooner or later. It was better to fight all-out from the beginning.
“Things are not entirely bleak,” the Origin Progenitor commented. He had been waiting with Lu Yin at the stone gate, standing guard for the possibility of the High Seraph suddenly arriving. “I’ll go as well.”
Lu Yin was surprised. “You’re going too?”
The Origin Progenitor showed a confident smile. “You’re heading off to the Spirit Nidus to face their High Seraph and Master Qing Cao. You won’t be able to hold those two off on your own. I can handle the High Seraph for you.
“As for the Immemorial Citadel, let’s see how much Old Mu cares for his disciple.”
“Master asked the Origin Progenitor to accompany you, Junior Brother, to the Spirit Nidus. As for the Immemorial Citadel, the sequence strings there will not be touched unless Master perishes,” Mu Zhu announced, revealing that Mister Mu had already made some preparations.
The Origin Progenitor laughed heartily. “I’m finally free of the Immemorial Citadel! Old Mu has to suppress the sequence strings in my place, haha!”
Lu Yin glanced in the direction of the Immemorial Citadel, almost as if he could see Mister Mu.
While Mister Mu was rarely ever present in Lu Yin’s life, the man had helped Lu Yin multiple times, especially during the fierce fighting at the Immemorial Citadel. Mister Mu truly cared for his disciple. Thank you, Master.
In the Tianyuan Megaverse, aside from the Origin Progenitor, there was no one else who was capable of standing against the High Seraph.
As long as Lu Yin was not simply erased by the High Seraph, he was confident that he could put up a fight in the Spirit Nidus.
The Tianyuan Megaverse had united to stand against the Spirit Nidus thanks to Lu Yin’s influence and the threat of the megaverse being reset. However, if the situation was reversed and the Spirit Nidus was instead the one being invaded, they might not be met with universal hostility.
After all, Lu Yin’s aim was not to reset the Spirit Nidus, but rather to deal with the High Seraph and the Ascendant Hall. Many in the Spirit Nidus would see this as an opportunity to restructure the balance of power. It was possible that many in the Spirit Nidus had been waiting for such a day. After all, that was in line with human nature.
