Chapter 3429: Hung Up
Old Tao was rendered speechless. How could anyone be so verbally caustic? On top of that, even the man’s movements seemed sleazy, and his appearance was always unkempt. He was a complete disgrace.
Lu Yin pursed his lips. He suddenly found himself missing Big Sis. Without her around, Ce Wangtian had completely let himself go. Things had gotten so bad that even Lu Yin found Ce Wangtian unbearable.
The mustachioed man trembled with rage. This insult could not be allowed to pass uncontested, no matter how extraordinary Boundless’s background might be. If he ignored such a thing, how could he continue to cultivate in the Spirit Nidus?
"Who are you? You’ve gone too far! Come out and face me in a duel to the death!"
Ce Wangtian rolled his eyes and simply ignored the man as Boundless continued on.
The mustachioed man swung his sword. There was no way he could endure such humiliation. If he did not pursue this matter, he might as well accept the name Cangu Yiguaizhang.
The man was a Spirit Ancestor, and he was second only to the Cleaved Valley’s master. His slash seemed to tear through the universe, only for Boundless to fill the space.
Lu Yin glanced over. Not bad. The man’s swordsmanship was quite decent. It was no wonder why he was called Yijian.
However, it was only quite decent and barely worth Lu Yin’s notice.
Ce Wangtian casually waved a hand, overturning the universe itself and sending the mustachioed man flying. As he went tumbling away, his sword snapped as well. This overwhelming display of power sent chills down the spines of those watching. Grave expressions appeared on many faces, as there was no doubt that a sequence powerhouse had taken action. However, none of them could determine which sequence technique the expert had cultivated.
The mustachioed man coughed up blood before staring blankly at his broken sword that was drifting away. His face grew deathly pale as he looked back at Boundless.
"Cangu Yijian, if you don’t get revenge for this, you’re no man! Go get your Cleaved Valley’s master!" someone urged.
"Exactly! Hurry up! Whoever’s humiliated you has insulted the Cleaved Valley! If you let this go, who will respect Cleaved Valley in the future?"
"Your Valley Master is famous for his pride, after all."
"Hurry up!"
The man remained standing where he was, looking rather uncertain.
Many nearby people called out, urging him to contact the Cleaved Valley’s master, believing that only a sequence powerhouse could hope to uncover the strength of those aboard Boundless.
Of course, there were already sequence powerhouses present, but none of them wanted to take that risk themselves. What if they offended Boundless? Besides, why should they fight on someone else’s behalf?
"Boundless… is not from the Spirit Nidus," the mustachioed man announced in a hoarse voice.
Those who heard him grew confused. "What does that mean? Does it not belong to the Spirit Nidus? Could that ship have been fighting in the Consciousness Megaverse this whole time?"
"That’s possible. It would also explain why it’s so large. It must have been part of the initial vanguard which was sent to the Consciousness Megaverse. It must be ancient."
"Could there be a Seraph on board?"
"That shouldn’t be. Wait—didn’t Seraph Yuan Qi leave a long time ago? Could he be back?"
"Seraph Yuan Qi went to the Tianyuan Megaverse. How could he have returned? That journey is incredibly difficult. Just crossing the Aevum Inch one way would take at least 10,000 years."
"Maybe he left 10,000 years ago?"
The mustachioed man then shouted loudly while pointing at Boundless, his face still pale. "There’s someone on Boundless with an aura that doesn’t belong to the Spirit Nidus! There’s more than one of them at that! That ship is absolutely not from this megaverse."
People were shocked by that claim. "Are you serious? Cangu Yijian, you’re not lying to us, are you?"
"Are you trying to get us to attack for you?"
"Cangu Yijian, who knew that you were so scheming!"
The mustachioed man started to panic. "I swear on my life that there is an aura that absolutely does not belong to the Spirit Nidus! Also, there’s more than one of them!"
Some people started to believe his claims, but others formed alternate theories.
"It could be a group of conscients that are defecting to our Spirit Nidus."
"That would make sense. Other than the Spirit Nidus and the Consciousness Megaverse, I can’t think of any other place for outsiders to come from. If there were, the Ascendant Hall would have found them long ago."
"I heard that the defenders at the boundary rotated recently. Do you think there could be a connection?"
"Right, maybe people at the boundary noticed something, so the High Seraph transferred them to the Consciousness Megaverse to prevent them from leaking this secret. Boundless did come from the direction of the boundary, didn’t it?"
"Shh, stop talking! The more you know, the more trouble you’ll end up in! Do you want to be sent to the Consciousness Megaverse too?"
"Definitely not!"
"Me neither."
"Cangu Yijian, good luck!"
The mustachioed man had considered this possibility as well, and his face grew even paler. This was bad. If these suspicions were correct, then the High Seraph might send Cangu Yijian to the Consciousness Megaverse as well. He absolutely did not want that to happen. He had just returned from that megaverse just a few thousand years earlier.
Aboard Boundless, Lu Yin grew puzzled. Their auras as outsiders had already been leaked, so why was there no reaction?
Ce Wangtian had been ordered to deliberately leak a bit of his aura, and the Progenitor had chosen Cangu Yijian as his target to stir up trouble when the aura was released. Even so, no one watching had stepped forward to question the battleship.
Time passed, and Boundless continued on towards the Hundred Grasses Domain.
It took a bit of time, but Lu Yin eventually figured things out.
People were overthinking things. The aura of an outsider could easily be attributed to conscients. On top of that, Boundless had just left the boundary, and the defenders had rotated at the High Seraph’s direct command. Everything lined up a bit too perfectly, which had led people to believe that Boundless was connected to the High Seraph. For this reason, no one dared to challenge the battleship.
No one else requested an audience. People merely watched Boundless
, both openly and from the shadows. This would not do. Lu Yin wanted to stir up a chaotic wave that would force his unresolved karma to reveal itself, but without antagonizing the entire Spirit Nidus and having them group up against him. He needed to come up with a plan.
A few days later, Lu Yin looked at a massive banner and laughed. "Hang it up just as it is."
Ce Wangtian gave him a thumbs-up. "It’s brilliant!"
Around the two men, Chu Yi, Sovereign Dou Sheng, and everyone else gave Lu Yin strange looks.
Even Wilderness God was looking at Lu Yin oddly, as though seeing the young man for the first time.
Yuan Qi’s expression was extremely stoic as he clenched his teeth and restrained himself internally. He had to hold back. He could not afford to be impulsive. It was not worth speaking up. Immortality awaited him. Immortality was still within reach.
Ce Wangtian hoisted the banner, which instantly drew countless eyes.
There were three lines on the banner:
True love is invincible!
The Primal Beastland and Heavenspire have been united in marriage.
-Yuan Qi.
These three lines of simple text stunned every Spirit Nidus cultivator who saw them speechless. People assumed that they must have misread the banner, and they rubbed their eyes vigorously, only to confirm that they had read correctly. This… this… is Boundless trying to provoke the entire megaverse?!
It was like throwing a boulder into a tranquil lake. Instantly, chaos erupted.
The Zhenyu Sect’s Qi Xue flushed with fury. "Outrageous! Outrageous! Cultivators who have undergone a beast-form Spirit Rebirth and cannot be with those who have undergone a human-form Spirit Rebirth! This… this is forbidden!"
Nie Yun, the eldest son of the Nie family, pointed angrily into outer space with his folded fan. "The people of Heavenspire are forbidden from marrying outsiders! This is the High Seraph’s direct command! If not I would have proceeded with it back then. This is blasphemy!"
Guan Ting, the sect master of the Shang Yi Sect, was dumbfounded. "Yuan Qi? Is it really Seraph Yuan Qi? What is he doing? Is he directly challenging the High Seraph?"
Cangu Yijian was also dumbfounded. He had been afraid that he might have stumbled upon some secret, only to discover that it was not a secret, but rather terrible crimes. Just what was Boundless trying to do?
"The audacity! How dare they? The Primal Beastland and Heavenspire can never be united! All who break such laws must die!"
"Boundless has committed grave crimes! Come out and show us who is so bold! Not even a Seraph can behave like this!"
"Seraph Yuan Qi, come out!"
"Yuan Qi, we used to admire you! Come out and give us an explanation!"
"Get out here!"
Aboard Boundless
, Lu Yin chuckled. This was closer to what he had been hoping for.He looked over at Yuan Qi. "Do you hear that? They’re so angry and disappointed in you. They’re demanding that you speak with them. Why not go out?"
Yuan Qi clenched his fists tightly. He barely held back his urge to curse Lu Yin. Gritting his teeth, he stepped out to face countless people who were staring at Boundless.
The moment Yuan Qi revealed himself, everyone fell silent.
Yuan Qi was a Seraph, which meant that he was second only to the High Seraph. He was also not someone who had recently obtained his title.
Yuan Qi was someone from the same generation as the High Seraph, and he was much older than Seraphs like Bao Qi or Meng Sang. Yuan Qi had once been a legend in the Spirit Nidus. His name had echoed across the megaverse like his Dao Bell as he suppressed an entire era.
No matter how outrageous Yuan Qi behaved, or how heretical his actions might be, the sight of him filled everyone from the Spirit Nidus with dread as they stared at him. All of them were waiting. They all wanted someone else to speak first.
Yuan Qi glanced around the region. He had never imagined that he would encounter such a situation after returning to the Spirit Nidus.
He looked at the banner. The text was so unmistakable. They blatantly admitted and encouraged violating core tenants of the Spirit Nidus itself. Even so, Yuan Qi had to protect that banner. It was despicable, and he hated every aspect of it.
If he had known that this day would come, he would have abandoned the Immemorial Citadel’s battlefield and paid any price necessary to kill Lu Yin before he rose to power. Alas, it was impossible to reverse time.
Boundless continued forward, its speed as steady as ever.
No one from the Spirit Nidus had any idea what Boundless’s destination was.
Yuan Qi stood at the bow of the battleship. He was as straight and rigid as a spear, and he shot into the dark starry sky with a cold brilliance.
Finally, after several days passed, someone finally stepped forward to confront Yuan Qi himself.
Yuan Qi looked at the approaching figure. It was a very young man.
The young man slowly bowed to Yuan Qi. "Fang Cong, a descendant of the Fang family, greets Seraph Yuan Qi."
Yuan Qi was surprised. "A member of the Fang family? What is your relationship to Fang Sheng?"
"He is my great-uncle. My Fang family has suffered several calamities, and our direct line has been completely wiped out. All that remains is my branch of the family. We’ve survived due to Ancestor Fang Sheng’s protection," Fang Cong replied respectfully.
Yuan Qi sighed. "Has the Fang family fallen so far after so many years? When I left the Spirit Nidus, the Fang family dominated three domains."
Fang Cong helplessly answered, "Things always change in ways that are hard to describe, just as Seraph Yuan Qi’s actions could be regarded as betraying the Spirit Nidus."
The man bowed again. "Junior Fang Cong humbly asks on behalf of the entire Spirit Nidus: why are you acting this way, Seraph Yuan Qi?"
Yuan Qi said nothing. How could he answer? There was no answer he could give.
Fang Cong bowed again. "Please, Seraph Yuan Qi, because of your relationship with Uncle Fang Sheng, give me an answer. Give the Spirit Nidus an answer."
Yuan Qi sighed. "Leave."
Fang Cong stared at Yuan Qi. "Senior, are you unwilling to offer any answer at all? In your silence, you are antagonizing the entire Spirit Nidus."
Yuan Qi still remained silent.
"Not long ago, I met Yuan Mie, a descendant of your family. Your Yuan family still holds sway over the Lushan Domain because of your legacy. Yuan Mie is among the best of his generation in the Spirit Nidus, and decades ago, he was chosen to join the invasion of the Tianyuan Megaverse. It was a tremendous honor. Your actions right now, Senior, endanger your Yuan family. Do you want to see your family rise because of you, only to fall because of you?"
Yuan Qi stared off into outer space, in the direction of the Lushan Domain and the Yuan family.
Within Boundless, Lu Yin arched a brow. Despite his youth, Fang Cong spoke precisely and had carefully chosen his words. He had started out in a respectful manner, followed with a direct challenge, and then finally played the emotional card. The man’s goal was not to change Yuan Qi’s decision, but rather to simply obtain an answer. For Fang Cong, that would be enough. He was the first with the courage to confront Yuan Qi directly, and he was also the first to demand an answer from the Seraph. Whatever followed was no longer Fang Cong’s concern, as he lacked the strength to influence such things. Instead, he had already accomplished something that was important enough to be recorded down in Spirit Nidus's history.
