Chapter 749: Bell World (Part 4)
Chapter 749: Chapter 749: Bell World (Part 4)
On the surface, Chen Ergou appeared calm and composed, but in reality, his heart was about to sprout wings and fly away.
Heavenly Dragon Vajra Method!
The prowess of this martial art had completely exceeded his expectations and had given him immense confidence!
Chen Ergou couldn’t help but clench his fists tightly.
What he wanted to do the most right now was to tell his father that he had not only become a true martial artist but had also obtained a tremendous opportunity.
Chen Ergou was even more eager to have Chen Qiaoshan learn the “Heavenly Dragon Vajra Method” as well.
...
Perhaps his father could use it to breakthrough to the Bone Refinement level!
Filled with joy, Chen Ergou’s hoe flew as he weeded the field clean.
Uprooting them completely!
After breaking through to the Skin Refinement level, his strength had greatly increased, and his efficiency in farming had more than doubled compared to usual.
But there was a price to pay.
And that was feeling exceedingly hungry.
Since all the cured meat at home had been eaten up, Chen Ergou was especially looking forward to his father’s early return to the village.
Because the Desolate Beasts nearby had long been hunted to extinction, the village hunting team usually went out for two or three days before returning, often bringing back some game.
As a member of the hunting team and a martial artist in the Flesh Refining Realm, Chen Qiaoshan would receive quite a bit of beast meat.
Chen Ergou licked his lips, feeling his stomach growling.
“Doggie!”
At that moment, a middle-aged farmer hurried over and yelled at him, “Quick, go home, your dad had an accident!”
Chen Ergou’s head buzzed as if it had exploded, and stars appeared in his eyes, nearly causing him to fall to the ground.
He didn’t care about the hoe that dropped, and he hurried towards his home.
He had never moved so fast!
Before he reached home, Chen Ergou saw a crowd of people gathered at his doorstep from a distance.
Among them were several hunters.
“Dad!”
He let out a loud shout, and tears burst from his eyes.
“Ergou is back.”
“Alas, such a pity, he lost his mother before, and now his father too, how will he manage to live on!”
“Indeed, indeed.”
The watching neighbors whispered amongst themselves, all looking at the approaching Chen Ergou with eyes full of pity and sympathy.
Chen Ergou rushed up to a middle-aged man and stammered, “Uncle Yan, my, my dad, he…”
The burly and strong man was the captain of the Little Stone Village hunting team. He sighed deeply and, placing a hand on Chen Ergou’s head, said, “The hunting team encountered a Third Order Fierce Beast, and your dad was unfortunately killed. We couldn’t even retrieve his body.”
The middle-aged man felt very guilty, “Doggie, from now on, you’ll have to support this family on your own.”
Chen Ergou’s head buzzed, and he didn’t hear a word that followed.
All he knew was that he had lost his only support, the person who loved him the most, was gone!
And then, Chen Ergou became like a puppet on strings, led by several of the village’s elderly to complete the funeral rites.
Since Chen Qiaoshan’s body had been dragged away by the Fierce Beast, the funeral was much simplified.
Even so, it had exhausted them through a day and a night.
By the end, an utterly drained Chen Ergou, who hadn’t had a drop to drink or a bite to eat, was at his limit both physically and mentally.
And at this time, as all the neighbors had dispersed, the courtyard was empty and desolate, heightening the sense of gloom.
In a bid to muster some spirit, Chen Ergou prepared to close the courtyard gate.
“Doggie!”
A group of people suddenly burst in, with the leader calling Chen Ergou by his nickname, while feigning concern and wiping his eyes, he said, “I’m your Fourth Uncle. I just heard something happened to Brother Qiao Shan, we came late!”
While speaking, he looked around, his eyes darting greedily over the yard and house.
Revealing a look of greed.
And the newcomer’s gaze finally settled on the table beside them, where a fat Desolate Sheep was placed.
This Desolate Sheep was the “consolation money” the hunting team had left for Chen Ergou. After cleaning out the innards, it weighed close to 200 pounds, and making it into cured meat could provide meat for a family for over half a year.
Chen Ergou’s face immediately darkened.
He was no longer the naive child. Now fifteen years old, he had come to understand a fair amount of the ways of the world.
This man who claimed to be “Fourth Uncle” was indeed a relative, but they barely had any contact normally.
And the man’s reputation was not very good.
To say that he had only just found out about Chen Qiaoshan’s misfortune was pure nonsense because in Little Stone Village, with only about a hundred households, even the smallest news could quickly travel from one end of the village to the other, let alone such a big incident.
It was clear that the other party had been waiting, only coming over to take advantage after the funeral when everyone else had left!
Chen Ergou immediately stepped forward, blocking the man’s way and said with a stern voice, “The funeral is over, you all should go back.”
Fourth Uncle’s expression suddenly changed, “You child, how dare you speak to your elders like that?”
Those who came with him started to clamor, “So disrespectful, truly lacking in manners!”
“Yes, we rushed over to help, and you won’t even offer us tea or a meal, just telling us to go back, how rude!”
“Children are children after all, the adults should be the ones making decisions in the home!”
“Old Fourth, just do a good deed and take him in.”
“Right!”
These people chattered non-stop, completely disregarding Chen Ergou’s opinion as they arranged the future matters among themselves.
Fourth Uncle feigned reluctance for a moment, then said, “Well, we are all family after all, it’s only right that we help each other.”
He put on a smug face and a fake smile, reaching out to pat Chen Ergou’s head, “Doggie, you’ll come with your Fourth Uncle from now on. As long as I have a bite to eat, you won’t go hungry.”
As he spoke, his eyes couldn’t help but be drawn back to the fat Desolate Sheep.
The greed in his eyes was no longer hidden!
Chen Ergou took a step back to avoid the man’s touch and sneered, “I’m already fifteen years old, I don’t need to find myself a stepfather, and you can forget about eyeing my house. It’s disgusting to look at!”
With his insincerity exposed, Fourth Uncle flew into a rage, lifting his palm to deliver a heavy slap to Chen Ergou’s face.
Before the slap could land, however, he took a heavy kick to the abdomen and involuntarily flew backward.
“Ouch!”
A chaos ensued, with people falling over and cries and screams overlapping.
“Get the hell out of here!”
The sorrow in Chen Ergou’s heart turned into towering rage, his eyes red as he pounced on these scum.
With one punch for each person, he beat several of them, including Fourth Uncle, until they were crying for their parents and scrambling out the door.
Chen Ergou used the last of his strength to close the door.
His body swayed, and he collapsed to the ground, his vision blackening.
The tremendous mental shock, along with physical exhaustion and hunger had pushed him past the limit, and the fifteen-year-old boy could no longer hold on.
Lying there on the cold ground, he suddenly completely relaxed.
Perhaps this release was a blessing in disguise for himself!
Chen Ergou slowly closed his eyes, and the light of life deep within them started to dim.
Like a candle in the wind, about to be extinguished!
