Chapter 680: Soul Spell
Chapter 680: Soul Spell
“Bang!”
Stussy hit the ground, crashing into the floor not far from the venue. Luckily, she wasn’t injured as she had used Kami-e (Paper Art) to soften the impact.
However, Katakuri’s hand was still gripping her ankle.
Gritting her teeth, Stussy reached into the small bag she carried and pulled out a dagger, slashing it toward Katakuri’s wrist.
Perhaps it was this sudden action that startled him, but Katakuri abruptly released her ankle and retracted his hand. A glimmer of hope sparked in Stussy’s heart as she prepared to stand and flee once more, only to find herself suddenly engulfed by a massive shadow.
Looking up, her face turned pale with fear. Standing before her was the enormous figure of Big Mom…
“St… Stussy!” Big Mom’s face was bulging with veins, her fury barely contained. Above her head, Zeus and Prometheus no longer had their usual playful expressions. The lightning cloud and fireball, both swirling violently around Big Mom, had taken on ferocious, menacing faces.
“Le… Linlin! Please, let me explain!” Stussy cried out in terror, desperately trying to salvage the situation.
However, Big Mom’s rage wasn’t baseless. The theft of the Poneglyph rubbing was just part of it. What truly enraged her was discovering that Stussy, a long-time friend, was actually the culprit—and a CP intelligence agent no less. Big Mom was consumed with a deep sense of betrayal!
This meant that for all this time, every move the Big Mom Pirates made had been under the surveillance of the World Government! This was an unforgivable crime!
So Big Mom didn’t listen to Stussy’s pleas. Her terrifyingly large face drew closer, her grotesque eyes staring menacingly into Stussy’s as she pronounced each word slowly, “…Trea!?”
Having been around Big Mom for so long, Stussy knew exactly what that meant. Life or sweets—this was Big Mom’s *Soul Spell*!
Stussy desperately tried to force herself to stay calm, knowing full well that fear would be her downfall. But facing Big Mom’s horrifying visage, and feeling the overwhelming pressure radiating from her, she couldn’t stop the trembling in her heart.
At that moment, before everyone’s eyes, a mist-like substance suddenly began to rise from Stussy’s body. The ethereal mist floated up from her as if it were a gauzy shroud.
Stussy had failed. She couldn’t resist the terror she felt toward Big Mom. The more time she had spent around Big Mom, the more she understood just how terrifying she truly was. So, when Big Mom invoked her *Soul Spell* to interrogate her, Stussy’s very soul began to manifest outside her body.
“Help… help me!!” Stussy screamed in terror, collapsing to the ground and stretching her hand toward the crowd of guests, her eyes frantically searching for Arest, hoping that the newly-promoted Navy admiral might step in and save her.
However, to her dismay, Arest’s figure had vanished!
Before Stussy could react, Big Mom’s massive hand swung down, grabbing hold of the soul-like mist that had risen from Stussy’s body. With a brutal tug, she ripped it away from Stussy’s form!
Stussy’s body froze instantly, her eyes rolling back, and she collapsed to the ground, lifeless. In her rage, Big Mom had taken every last bit of Stussy’s remaining lifespan. Without that lifespan, her life force was completely drained, and Stussy died on the spot—killed by Big Mom’s hand.
The Queen of the Pleasure District, who had controlled much of the underground world’s red-light district business, likely never imagined that her trip to this tea party would end with her dying so easily on Cake Island.
Those who witnessed Big Mom’s ruthless execution, like Lu Feld and the others, felt a cold shiver down their spines as they watched Stussy’s death. A wave of fear gripped them, as if they too could share her fate at any moment. Yet, at the same time, they felt a sense of relief.
Damn it, Stussy, that old woman, was actually a government spy all along! We spent all these years thinking she was a friend, but it turns out the world government had been watching our every move in the underground business!
No way—we need to investigate our own men thoroughly when we get back. Who knows how many more of these government agents are hiding among us…
After killing Stussy with her own hands, Big Mom seemed to calm down slightly. She turned to Ian and demanded, “Ian, who is the other one!?”
Yes, while Stussy had been exposed, she was only one of the culprits from last night. There was still an accomplice who hadn’t been found yet.
“The other one is…” Ian began to say as he turned to look for Arest’s figure. He had already noticed the earlier interaction between Arest and Stussy, so if there was an accomplice, it had to be Arest.
However, just at that moment, a sudden sense of danger hit Ian. Without thinking, he took a quick step forward and twisted his body, while drawing his Chibonzakura blade from his waist in one swift motion, slashing it in a circular arc behind him.
Clang! A loud clash rang out as Ian’s blade struck a strange dagger!
This dagger was peculiar because it was so thin—so thin that from the edge, it was almost invisible. Moreover, aside from the black Haki coating it, the blade was emitting a faint red glow.
The person attacking Ian was, of course, Arest. At some point, he had silently moved from his previous position and appeared behind Ian. Even Katakuri, who had been using his Observation Haki, had not detected his movements.
Arest’s killing intent had been completely concealed—only when he finally attacked Ian did it leak out, allowing Ian to sense it just in time.
Although Ian reacted quickly enough to block Arest’s dagger, that was merely a feint. Arest hadn’t put any strength into the dagger in his right hand, and as soon as Ian deflected it, Arest’s left hand shot out with unimaginable speed, slashing toward Ian’s abdomen!
Even though Ian sensed something was off and retreated, Arest’s strike still managed to land a blow.
What shocked Ian was the strength of Arest’s Haki. It was far beyond his expectations, directly breaking through Ian’s Haki defense on his abdomen and leaving four claw marks on his body!
Though the wound wasn’t deep, it still bled, and a sharp burning pain followed.
“Damn it! Who are you!?” Ian growled, inspecting the wound on his abdomen. He had originally thought that since Arest was Stussy’s accomplice, he might also be a member of CP. While agents of the World Government’s intelligence units could be formidable, Ian hadn’t been too concerned. In his view, they were more skilled at espionage, infiltration, and assassination, rather than pure combat power.
In his mind, even Rob Lucci from CP9 was considered the pinnacle of their strength, but Ian was confident that in his current state, he could defeat dozens of Rob Luccis!
However, after this clash with Arest, Ian realized how wrong he had been. Though Ian hadn’t put his full strength into the Haki shielding his abdomen, Arest had easily broken through it and managed to wound him. Such a powerful mastery of Haki was far beyond what any CP intelligence officer should be capable of!@@novelbin@@
The exchange between the two had only lasted a brief moment. By the time everyone else reacted, Big Mom stared at Arest in disbelief, her voice trembling as she said, “Fa… Father Arest, how could it be you!?”
Since Big Mom and her crew were pirates, the priests who officiated their ceremonies were usually fake. True clergymen rarely associated with pirates. In the past, Big Mom’s children’s wedding ceremonies were officiated by priests who were either kidnapped or members of her own crew posing as priests.
But Arest, as a legitimate priest, had held a special significance for Big Mom. Discovering that Arest was actually the second culprit gave her a profound sense of betrayal, as though her faith had been shattered.
Why? Wasn’t Father Arest supposed to be a good person, like Sister Carmel? How could this be happening!?
Under everyone’s shocked gazes, Arest smiled faintly and said, “Linlin, there’s something I forgot to tell you. I’m no longer a priest. I’ve been selected by the World Government’s civilian conscription program and am now a Navy Admiral! Father Arest? No, I should be called ‘White Wolf Arest’ now…”
As soon as he said this, the entire venue fell into a stunned silence. Even Ian and the others were left slack-jawed in disbelief.
An… Admiral of the Navy!?
A Navy Admiral had appeared on Cake Island, right in the territory of one of the Four Emperors!?
