Chapter 688: Preparing for the Final Battle

Boom! As Big Mom’s fist slammed down, another massive crater appeared on the ground.

Katakuri could only hold Pudding tightly and leap away to dodge the blow. He knew very well that his mother had gone berserk, and there was no reasoning with her in this state. The only thing she would listen to now was anything related to food.

Similarly, Capone Bege wasn’t an idiot. He had already sensed Katakuri’s killing intent. How could he possibly stay in the same place? So, taking advantage of Katakuri being attacked by Big Mom, he and his Fire Tank Pirates quickly scrambled to their feet and fled.

They ran towards where Ian was.

Seeing Capone Bege panting as he ran over, Ian grabbed him by the collar and asked, “What’s going on?! How did the bomb go off early?! And why did you let Pudding escape?!”

“I… I had no choice!” Capone Bege responded, “I don’t know who picked up the bomb’s remote, but someone pressed it at just the right moment. Didn’t you see? Even we got caught in the blast!”

“Tch!” Ian glanced at Big Mom, who was wreaking havoc not far away, and released Capone Bege. “Great! Your plan didn’t work at all. Big Mom hasn’t been weakened in the slightest, and now she’s gone berserk, making her even more destructive!”

Capone Bege glanced back and said grimly, “Even though Big Mom is scarier in her berserk state, have you thought about this? Her indiscriminate attacks could actually work to our advantage!”

Ian nodded in agreement. “True. This way, we can deal with Katakuri and the others first. Once we take them out, Big Mom will be the only one left!”

“Exactly!” Capone Bege nodded while opening the castle door in his chest. Soon, several small figures came rushing out from inside.

Like Pudding earlier, these figures quickly grew larger after exiting the range of Capone Bege’s Devil Fruit ability, returning to their original size. These were all members of Capone Bege’s Fire Tank Pirates.

There seemed to be quite a few of them, and each one was armed with guns, even rocket launchers and mortars. As soon as they appeared, they quickly set up their artillery around Capone Bege.

“My loyal subordinates are always with me. What about yours?” Capone Bege turned and asked Ian. “Don’t tell me your people haven’t arrived yet. That would be trouble, considering Big Mom’s crew could summon thousands of troops from Cake Island at any moment!”

“Don’t worry!” Ian looked up at the massive cloud overhead. “They’re already here!”

The members of the Fire Tank Pirates all looked up, only to see a large number of black dots descending from the sky.

The three fastest-moving black dots quickly grew larger, and with three thunderous crashes, three massive figures landed behind Ian, kicking up a cloud of dust.

As the dust slowly settled, Capone Bege and his men stared in shock at the three identical giant figures rising from the ground.

These were three giants who looked exactly like Bartholomew Kuma. Their cold, expressionless faces showed a brief flash of red light in their eyes as they stood up.

“Pacifistas…” Capone Bege muttered under his breath as he recognized them. He exhaled in relief and said to Ian, “As expected, a powerful ally indeed…”

Ian smiled slightly and said nothing. The three Pacifistas began to march forward with heavy steps.

When they reached Ian, they stood shoulder to shoulder. Their massive bodies exerted an oppressive presence, making even the Fire Tank Pirates visibly uneasy. ℞𝓪₦ȫᛒƐ𝙎

A faint beeping sound rang out as the three Pacifistas scanned everyone present. The leading Pacifista then spoke in a low voice to Ian, “PX-9, PX-8, PX-7 are in position. Please issue the battle command.”

Ian nodded and asked, “What about Varua?”

The lead Pacifista, PX-7, replied, “Dr. Varua is currently at Sky Island. He asked me to inform you that the experimental Sky-based Thunder Cannon is ready for activation at any time.”

“Oh, is that so?!” Ian’s face lit up with excitement.

The Sky-based Thunder Cannon was a weapon Varua had been researching for a long time. Previous versions of the Thunder Cannon required a special mineral for casting, making them heavy and not particularly powerful due to their small size. During the New Edd Sea battle, although they wanted to use the Thunder Cannon, it was portable and thus limited in effectiveness.

Varua later intended to recreate his tank and install a larger Thunder Cannon on it, but Ian had suggested ditching multiple smaller cannons in favor of building one massive Thunder Cannon. This new cannon wouldn’t need to be moved manually—it would be fixed under the Sky Island base and capable of ground attacks. Not only would this enhance its firepower, but it would also allow the Thunder Cannon to move with the Sky Island.

Varua had taken Ian’s advice, and after all this time, Ian was surprised he had already completed it.

So, the world’s largest Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon is finally ready, huh?

Ian could barely contain his excitement, eager to find an opportunity to fire it.

Turning to Capone Bege, Ian said, “Let’s proceed with the original plan. You and your Fire Tank Pirates, along with part of my Dragon Hunter Pirates and these three Pacifistas, will be responsible for wiping out Big Mom’s minions. Got it?”

“Pacifistas joining in? Then no problem at all!” Capone Bege adjusted his suit and laughed. “It’s a deal!”@@novelbin@@

Ian knew that Cake Island was Big Mom’s stronghold, housing the most elite forces of her pirate crew. As Capone Bege had mentioned, Big Mom could summon thousands of subordinates at any moment. Although most of them were just underlings, their sheer numbers could be troublesome. By having the Fire Tank Pirates deal with these underlings, Ian and his crew could focus on Big Mom’s high-ranking officers.

In truth, Ian could have used a large-scale attack like Solar Flare (BRIGHT LIGHT) to wipe out the underlings, but the problem was that they wouldn’t all gather in one place at the same time. One use of Solar Flare might miss some of them. So instead, he decided to conserve his mental energy to deal with Katakuri and the others.

With Big Mom in her current berserk state due to the missing wedding cake, things had worked out in Ian’s favor. As long as they stayed away from Big Mom, they could chip away at her crew’s strength from the outside. Meanwhile, Katakuri and the others not only had to deal with attacks from the Dragon Hunter and Fire Tank Pirates, but they also had to watch out for Big Mom herself. This shift in balance made them easier to handle.

Of course, even though the situation was favorable for Ian and his crew, they couldn’t afford to be careless. After all, the Big Mom Pirates were one of the Four Emperors’ crews, and many of Big Mom’s children were powerful. On top of that, there were various strange and powerful Devil Fruit abilities to contend with, making them formidable opponents.

As for the guests invited by Big Mom, they would probably try to escape Cake Island once the fighting started. However, the Vinsmoke family could be a problem. Ian still didn’t know what Judge was planning. Would he cling to Big Mom’s crew and turn against Ian, or would he make the right choice and align with the Dragon Hunter Pirates?

Thinking of this, Ian glanced towards where Reiju and Judge were, only to find that Judge seemed confused and unsure of what to do about Big Mom’s rampage.

Just then, a loud thud came from behind Ian, followed by Crocodile’s proud voice. “Captain, didn’t we agree this was just a backup plan? How did we end up fighting anyway?”

Ian turned to look at Crocodile, who had a cigar in his mouth, and shrugged. “Ah, it’s a long story. I don’t even know where to begin…”

Another thud sounded as Enel appeared, grinning excitedly. “Who cares about that? How could we miss such a big event? Let’s just get started!”

“I agree…” Mr. 1, with his hands turned into sharp blades, licked one of them.

“Hmph, a bunch of battle maniacs!” A snort came from the armored Nana, who walked over with her hand on her knight sword.

The ever-charming Robin, with her long black hair, smiled as she retracted the angel wings formed by countless hands behind her. “Captain, I heard there are quite a few Poneglyphs on this island. Is that true?”

“Ian-sama, why are you dressed like that?!” Before Ian could respond, Baby 5, cigarette in hand, landed and blushed as she looked at him. “Where are your clothes?!”

She immediately produced a set of clothes from behind her and handed them over. “Good thing I came prepared! Put these on…”

“Heh, boss! Looks like your luck isn’t so great today!” Baccarat, with her reddish-brown curls, giggled as she teased Ian.

“Is this Cake Island? It looks so delicious…” Sugar and Walnut, dressed in matching bear outfits with cat paws, held hands as they curiously looked around at the delicious-smelling buildings, their eyes sparkling.

“I want to eat too!” Doroni was even worse off; his stomach was already rumbling loudly.

“Wh…y… do… I… have… to… come… too…?” The dark-eyed Matthew asked slowly, but no one dared to answer him…

“Whoa!” Raideen landed on the ground with a huge tremor, then turned his head to look around, snorting, “Although it’s an annoying island, if it’s about fighting, I don’t mind joining in.”

Zick beside him rubbed his nose, clenched his fist, and said to Raideen, “Wanna have a contest?”

The scene was noisy and bustling. Under the astonished gazes of Capone Bege and the Fire Tank Pirates, Ian’s Dragon Hunter Pirates had almost all arrived. The airdrop was complete; they were ready to fight…
