Chapter 729 Close Combat
Everyone paused upon hearing this voice. They could forget the name Lin Shen, even forget Lin Shen the person.
But the moment this peculiar War Song began, they immediately knew who he was.
In the Ascension Level knockout rounds of the race rankings, he was the one whose War Song ignited the cosmos, familiar even to many Immortals. Even if they couldn't remember his name, they knew said individual existed.
Actually, many people did know Lin Shen's name, and those like Feng Feitian were also aware of Lin Shen's identity. Read exclusive adventures at My Virtual Library Empire
Watching Lin Shen not fleeing, but rather facing the Asura Ghost alone and singing the War Song, everyone's expressions fluctuated, seemingly hesitant.
They actually knew they couldn't escape, they just had no choice but to run.
Lin Shen's War Song reminded them that with the empowerment of the War Song, Lin Shen too could become immensely powerful.
However, Lin Shen was only at the Ascension Level, and there were only about a dozen of them here, unlike during the battle of the race rankings, where hundreds of millions lent their support to Lin Shen's War Song.
Even if they were willing to stop and sing War Song for Lin Shen, could he gain the power to fight the Asura Ghost?
Keep in mind that when they previously combined their strength to lend to Di Esi, it was as if gathering everyone's strength to battle the Asura Ghost, and still, they were devastatingly defeated.
Just singing to empower Lin Shen, the effect was sure to be even less.
Di Esi of the Nirvana Level had lost under those circumstances; could Ascension Level Lin Shen truly hold any hope?
With these thoughts in their minds, they hesitated for a moment.
"The sky so vast... the fields so wide... I've lived my life so wildly..." A voice arose alongside Lin Shen's singing; it was outrageously Di Esi.
Seeing the turn of events, Bing Leiya, who was in the midst of fleeing, thought to himself, "The chance of escaping is minuscule; might as well take a gamble—there could be a possibility."
Bing Leiya stopped as well, bellowing out the War Song loudly to bolster Lin Shen's morale.
Seeing Di Esi and Bing Leiya not fleeing, heading toward Lin Shen while shouting the War Song, many couldn't help but clench their teeth and followed suit in shouting.
With slim hopes of escape, if someone was willing to lead, it was slightly better than leaving their fate to the heavens.
Although the dozen people shouted the War Song with all their might, there were too few of them; their momentum was not sufficient.
Lin Shen himself hadn't expected them to sing the War Song to aid him; he sang mainly because he had learned a singing technique from Little Star that significantly enhanced himself when he sang the War Song alone.
The effect of the dozen people singing the War Song was far from as strong as Lin Shen singing by himself.@@novelbin@@
This was because none of them were adept at using sound series powers; if it had been the Night Star Four Ladies, the effect would have instantly skyrocketed.
Even a mosquito, as tiny as it is, still counts as flesh, especially since Di Esi and the rest were Nirvana Beings; their singing of the War Song did have some effect.
Lin Shen didn't truly expect to defeat the Asura Ghost with just the War Song. Besides the War Song, he also had his previously accumulated Sacrificial Halo.
Originally, the Sacrificial Halo hadn't accumulated much Attribute; after so much time, it had accrued just under a thousand points. However, the Asura Ghost's killing spree, massacring thousands of Nirvana Beings, wound up inadvertently benefiting Lin Shen.
The Nirvana Level sacrifice caused the attributes of the Sacrificial Halo to skyrocket frantically, and it had now broken through the 6,000 mark; adding in his own attributes and the enhancement of various skills, his attributes could reach around 7,000 to 8,000.
The attributes of a Nirvana Being are merely a little over 1,000, so theoretically, with a strike from the Sacrificial Halo, Lin Shen's attributes were far stronger than those of the Asura Ghost.
However, the combat power at Nirvana Level isn't solely determined by attributes; the Power of Nirvana is the key, and the Power of Nirvana held by the Asura Ghost is terrifyingly strong. Lin Shen wasn't sure if a full-force strike with 7,000 to 8,000 strength could take down the Asura Ghost.
But now that it had come to this, he had to at least try.
It's a pity that the Sacrificial Halo only allowed for one strike; if it could be used continuously, even for just a few seconds, giving Lin Shen the opportunity to strike in succession, dealing with the Asura Ghost wouldn't be so difficult.
Lin Shen contemplated whether to execute this decisive attack using the Scrap Sword Skill or the Acupoint Sealing.
The Scrap Sword Skill was more destructive, but if one strike couldn't severely wound or kill the Asura Ghost, Lin Shen would have no more chances.
Acupoint Sealing could control the Asura Ghost, but it required the use of Finger Sand; the destruction caused by Finger Sand was slightly less than that of the Scrap Sword Skill, unsure if it could break through the Asura Ghost's defense of the Power of Nirvana.
Choosing one between the two, Lin Shen only had one opportunity.
With all his skills fully activated, his armor, black crystal-like in appearance and actually emitting light, became more profound the brighter his aura shone. Thus, to others, it appeared as if his carapace had no radiance at all.
The Asura Ghost in the sky, watching Lin Shen who was singing the War Song, did not take action because there was his Nirvana Egg on Lin Shen. He simply didn't want to damage his own Nirvana Egg; otherwise, he would have made his move against Lin Shen long ago.
It was mainly because Lin Shen's physical resilience was too great, even stronger than his Nirvana Egg. If he wanted to kill Lin Shen, he'd have to use extremely powerful destructive force, and that force would likely damage his Nirvana Egg first.
Lin Shen well understood the Asura Ghost's reluctance, which was exactly his advantage.
With a thought racing like lightning, Lin Shen suddenly leaped up, charging toward the Asura Ghost in the sky, intending to strike pre-emptively.
But even under the enhancement of the War Song, his speed was only comparable to that of an average Nirvana Being, not appearing particularly dominant.
The Asura Ghost watched him coldly as he ascended, and a sharp glint flashed in his eyes. The White Jade Blade in his hand came slashing directly downwards.
This strike, however, did not emit crescent blade lights; it was a direct chop with the blade's body.
The Moonlight Blade was hard to control after being unleashed, so the Asura Ghost, worried about damaging his Nirvana Egg, was therefore being so cautious.
Even so, the speed of the Asura Ghost was too fast, the slash was almost like teleportation and reached in front of Lin Shen in an instant.
Without hesitation, Lin Shen drew his weapon to face the Asura Ghost's White Jade Blade, but what he drew wasn't the Scrap Sword; it was Death Powder coiled around his body.
The red tendon-like Death Powder, pulled out from his sleeve, came welcoming the White Jade Blade.
When the two collided, there was no earth-shattering boom, not even a whisper of sound.
The seemingly boneless Death Powder, like a snake, wrapped itself around the White Jade Blade and even coiled toward the Asura Ghost's arm.
The Asura Ghost seemed not to have anticipated this, his hand gripping the White Jade Blade forcefully, causing the blade to flash with light as he attempted to sever the Death Powder entangled on it.
Unfortunately, the Death Powder was too resilient, and with the doubled effect of the Base Mutation Talent Super Base Demonization as reinforcement, the Asura Ghost's forceful attempt did not manage to sever Death Powder, nor did it free the blade. Instead, Death Powder was about to coil up to the Asura Ghost's arm.
What do you think?
