At the highway intersection in Donghai City, a black-plated military vehicle quietly parked by the roadside. Inside, a man in his fifties with a square face stared profoundly at the passing cars. Bai Qikun had been basking in the sun in the capital just last night, but a phone call had brought him overnight to Donghai, and early in the morning, he arrived at the highway intersection. His presence here was not out of boredom but to meet the renowned doctor, Wang Yannian.

By this time, Xiao Fei’s vehicle had been pinpointed by satellite. Wang Yannian’s movements had been no secret since he descended from the mountains.

A few minutes later, an Audi A6 pulled up at the highway intersection. Bai Qikun, inside the vehicle, finally stirred. He did not rush to approach Wang Yannian but instead slightly released a bit of his aura.

Wang Yannian in the Audi quickly detected this aura and identified its owner. “Bai Qikun, you arrived quite fast,” Wang Yannian instructed Xiao Fei next to him, “Pull over after the toll booth.”

Xiao Fei, momentarily stunned, then nodded in agreement. He dared not defy Wang Yannian, who, though seemingly on the verge of death, was a veritable living Human Immortal, not to be trifled with. Xiao Fei obediently pulled the car over to the side of the road.

Wang Yannian opened the car door; “No need to wait for me, go ahead, I’ll catch up soon.”

Bai Qikun watched Wang Yannian approach him. His face was devoid of joy or sorrow, betraying no emotion until Wang Yannian reached his car, at which point he opened the door.

Wang Yannian entered the vehicle; “Have you been waiting long?”

Bai Qikun shook his head: “Things are different now. Your every move is monitored by satellites, so there’s no need for me to arrive early.”

“Satellites?” Wang Yannian nodded; “No wonder I always felt something watching over me, so it was the satellites. I didn’t realize they are now so powerful to lock onto a person.”

Bai Qikun nodded; “Yes, technology is advancing, and so are humans.”

Wang Yannian scoffed: “Advancement? You mean so-called science? Not following the paths our ancestors found and instead obsessing over science, it’s putting the cart before the horse.”

To this, Bai Qikun could only agree: “You have a point, but science has its uses. Look at this satellite surveillance; you can’t hack it.”

Wang Yannian smiled faintly; “I know a way to break it.”

“Then have you stepped on it?”

Wang Yannian sighed deeply; “Cultivation isn’t a path you simply decide to take. Bai Qikun, you and I are alike, let’s not pretend to be devotees of science.”

Bai Qikun smiled lightly; “I’ve never been a devotee, but it’s undeniable that technology has brought us much convenience.”

Wang Yannian nodded; “Did you come here specifically for me?”

Bai Qikun affirmed; “If not for you, who else could make me fly from the capital to Donghai in the middle of the night?”

“Fair enough.”

Bai Qikun added; “Did you come down from the mountain to avenge your disciple?”

Wang Yannian shook his head; “Is that important?”

“Perhaps not anymore, what matters is that you’ve come down.” Bai Qikun observed Wang Yannian, whose expression remained unchanged, as if he had expected all this.

“Donghai is complicated, your arrival will attract more Human Immortals. You know your medical skills are exceptional, but so are your pills, desired by many, including some reclusive old monsters. Are you sure you want to stir these troubled waters?”

Wang Yannian looked at Bai Qikun as if he were a fool; “I’m already here, what do you think?”

“Sigh, I can’t imagine what the Xiao family offered to make you come all the way to Donghai.”

Wang Yannian looked forward; “They offered something I couldn’t refuse.”

“I see, I have one condition.”

“Go ahead.”

“Su Zhenguo must not be harmed.”

Wang Yannian paused, then responded; “If it comes to it, we’ll just have to find someone else to take the fall . You want me to kill the son and not the father, and then wait for their vengeance?”

Bai Qikun gave a bitter laugh; “It’s not my personal desire, but if you harm Su Zhenguo, I won’t just stand by.”

“Is he that important?”

“He holds technologies in his hands that could change the world order, critical technologies we can’t even access. If something happens to him, those technologies could disappear.”

Wang Yannian nodded; “I’ve said it, the young Xiao offered me an irresistible condition, so to some extent I might end up being his enforcer.”

Bai Qikun inhaled sharply, as if seeing a ghost. The idea of a human immortal becoming an enforcer for a family’s young master was almost inconceivable. If someone had told him this ten minutes earlier, Bai Qikun would have never believed that Wang Yannian would stoop to this level.

Yet, after understanding the gravity of the situation, Wang Yannian had still made such a decision. It showed how compelling Xiao Feiyu’s offer must have been.

Wang Yannian continued coolly, “Instead of talking to me, you might be better off negotiating with that young Xiao. If you can keep him in check, I won’t need to take any drastic actions.”

Bai Qikun gave a wry smile, “It’s not that simple, Old Wang. Listen to me, just go back. We’ve known each other for so many years, old friends as we are, I genuinely don’t want to come to blows with you.”

“I’ve made my decision, and no one can change it.”

Bai Qikun fell silent for a moment, then opened the car door, “Then there’s nothing more to say. Your decisions are yours, and my stances are mine. Whether we meet as foes or friends next time depends entirely on your choice.”

Wang Yannian nodded, not saying much more, and got out of the car.

Watching Wang Yannian leave, Bai Qikun took out a satellite phone and dialed a number to the capital, “It failed, send everyone from the capital here. If Donghai spirals out of control, the flames might reach the capital.”

“Understood, Director Bai, I’ll arrange for people to head over immediately.”

Bai Qikun hung up, frowning deeply in thought. What could the condition possibly be that made Wang Yannian unable to refuse? And what exactly was the situation with Su Lin?
