Chapter 237
Chapter 237: Disdained by Liu Shiwen, Xiao Feiyu
Seeing Su Lin walk away contentedly, Lin Guoqiang was left fuming, his beard bristling. He found that every conversation with Su Lin left him infuriated and yet without any real leverage over him. This time, Su Lin had caught him by the short hairs, promising more trouble in the future.
“How did Xiaowan end up with such a boyfriend? Really, it’s such a headache, such a headache. Hmph! I can’t handle the young one, but can’t I deal with the old one?”
Lin Guoqiang grumbled as he entered the venue, looking for an opportunity to take a good jab at Su Zhenguo. As for pushing things too far, like strangling business deals, he wouldn’t go that far; at most, he’d make a few jokes. Although the two often clashed when they met, they actually had a fairly good relationship.
Back at his seat, Lin Xiaowan scooted over to make room for Su Lin. Grinning, Su Lin asked, “Xiaowan, guess how my chat with your dad went?”
Knowing Su Lin all too well and recognizing his mischievous smile, Lin Xiaowan guessed that he must have gotten her father to agree. Although she was a bit surprised, she also found it typical of Su Lin, who often managed to turn the impossible into possible.
“I bet my dad agreed, but he must be reluctant. It wasn’t through a trade of interests, so it must have been a threat.” Concerned, she added, “He didn’t get involved in corruption, did he?”
Su Lin squeezed her hand reassuringly, “Don’t worry. Your family is already so wealthy, why would he need to be corrupt?”
“That’s true… It would take billions to tempt my dad. So, how did you manage it?” Lin Xiaowan asked curiously.
Smiling, Su Lin responded, “That’s… something I can’t say…”
Seeing Su Lin’s mysterious demeanor, Lin Xiaowan didn’t bite, “Never mind then. It’s probably nothing good. I’d rather know less about the gossip involving my dad.”
“Xiaowan, Su Lin, what are you whispering about? Su Lin’s practically eating your ear. I know you two are close, but remember, there are others here,” Jiang Ruoxi teased as she observed them.
Su Lin chuckled and responded, “Ruoxi, you’re Ziyu’s close friend, hardly an outsider.”
“Tsk,” Jiang Ruoxi playfully rolled her eyes at Su Lin, whose comment might be taken suggestively.
Su Lin then realized what he said was a little ambiguous which made people think. Fortunately, everyone present was intimate with him and didn’t take his words amiss. Indeed, the women just giggled at Su Lin’s slight embarrassment, not minding at all.
Jiang Ruoxi, seeing their reactions, inwardly applauded Su Lin’s charisma. So many remarkable women saw him in a different light, and even she found his charm undeniable. Like Ziyu, however, she couldn’t accept his polyamorous lifestyle, or she might have fallen for him too.
However, Su Lin knew she wouldn’t mind his current thoughts. Even Ziyu, always so principled and rational, had ultimately surrendered to her emotions.
The group had just settled down when they heard a commotion from the hallway. Several young people emerged from around the elevator corner.
Leading the group was a handsome man and a stunning woman, Liu Bowen and Liu Shiwen, siblings from the Liu family. Following them were Ma Junjie from Ma family and Xiao Feiyu.
At that moment, Xiao Feiyu was talking quietly with Liu Bowen, receiving neither a warm response nor enthusiastic engagement.
Curious, Su Lin remarked, “When did Xiao Feiyu get together with the Liu siblings?”
Jiang Ruoxi answered indifferently, “Su Lin, didn’t you know?”
“Know what?”
“Xiao Feiyu canceled his engagement to me and immediately had the ghost doctor arrange a marriage proposal with Liu Shiwen.”
“Once the Liu siblings learned of it, they were furious, especially Liu Bowen, who smashed a cup. But the ghost doctor had helped their family, so they couldn’t just snub him. The Liu family’s response was noncommittal, and Xiao Feiyu is now trying to ingratiate himself.”
After Jiang Ruoxi’s explanation, everyone understood the situation, though they were somewhat surprised.
“Ruoxi, your engagement with Xiao Feiyu was canceled? When did that happen?”
Jiang Ruoxi laughed, “Just these past few days. Don’t look at me like that; I’m actually very happy about it. You have no idea how long Xiao Feiyu has been bothering me. I had no feelings for him, and it was extremely annoying. Now, finally, no one is pestering me.”
“But Xiao Feiyu is so disgusting, was all his affection just an act?” Zhao Yanyan wondered.
“Do you even have to ask? Of course, it was. Just look at him now.”
Jiang Ruoxi chuckled, “Whether it was real or not, I don’t care. I’m just glad to be rid of a nuisance. It’s just a pity for Miss Liu; it looks like she’s going to be bothered by him now.”
Everyone looked towards Liu Shiwen, who was speaking irritably to Xiao Feiyu.
“I don’t like you, Xiao Feiyu. Although my father didn’t reject the marriage proposal outright, I will convince him.”
Liu Shiwen frowned, not expecting to suddenly be dealing with the most infatuated man in Shanghai. Xiao Feiyu’s antics were often joked about in their circle; his deep affection for Jiang Ruoxi and the foolish things he had done for her were well known.
At the time, Liu Shiwen had envied such devotion, thinking it wouldn’t be bad to be with such a well-matched suitor who would go to such lengths. However, when she learned that Xiao Feiyu had canceled his engagement to Jiang Ruoxi and immediately had someone propose to her, she was disgusted.
She felt as though she was just picking up Jiang Ruoxi’s leftovers. When Xiao Feiyu tried to get close to her, she felt utterly repulsed by his contrived gentlemanly demeanor, which seemed so forced compared to his genuine pursuit of Jiang Ruoxi.
“Miss Liu, you don’t need to be so defensive. We’re just getting to know each other.”
Liu Shiwen replied coolly, “Mr. Xiao, we’ve already met. I would like some peace now. Could you please not follow me?”
Unfazed, Xiao Feiyu looked towards the main hall, “We’re all here for the banquet, where else am I supposed to go?”
Liu Shiwen was even more repulsed by his response, seeing right through his lack of sincerity.
After being rejected, Xiao Feiyu didn’t even bother to pretend, showing his impatience plainly.
Liu Shiwen was determined to convince her parents not to arrange a marriage with the Xiao family.
Liu Bowen interjected quietly, “Xiao Feiyu, if you can get my parents to agree to the marriage, even if my sister is unwilling, she will have to accept.”
His words made it clear. Convincing their parents was enough; Liu Shiwen’s feelings were secondary. Xiao Feiyu sneered, about to speak, when he saw Qin Jiuyue looking at him with disdain.
A twinge of pain shot through him—it was the DNA of annoyance kicking in!
