Chapter 690 - 691 Extortion and Blackmail
"Really?" Shu Ya looked at Hao Jian with deep suspicion.
"Of course it's true. You know the value of that piece of land is high, so to prevent it from being taken away, I had no choice but to talk with her all night long to come up with a strategy," Hao Jian said with a resolute expression, secretly admiring his own damn cleverness.
"Then why didn't you answer your phone?" Shu Ya pressed.
"I left my phone in the car at the time. As you know, when you're discussing matters with someone like Murong Qiushui, it's impolite to keep your phone with you," Hao Jian explained.
"Alright, it seems I was wrong to blame you." Shu Ya nodded, now understanding the situation, which provided an explanation for why Hao Jian hadn't answered his phone.
"I think you should check him for anything unusual first," however, at that moment, Ruo Lan said to Shu Ya with a sneer.
Upon hearing this, Hao Jian's face immediately stiffened. This damn woman, was she deliberately making things difficult for him?
Hearing this, Shu Ya also felt it was a reasonable suggestion and walked over to Hao Jian, then began to sniff around him.
Sure enough, she discovered something amiss and frowned, "You smell like a woman's perfume!"
"I was with Murong Qiushui yesterday. Naturally, there would be her perfume smell on me," Hao Jian said, his face tense.
"Then why is the scent of perfume so strong? Don't tell me you were glued together while doing business?" Shu Ya said doubtfully, as the perfume scent on Hao Jian was especially strong, mixed with a woman's body fragrance.
The scent of perfume on Hao Jian was normal, but what about this body fragrance?
Never underestimate a woman's deduction and sense of smell. When it comes to catching a cheating man, their intelligence could rival Sherlock Holmes!
"No, you must be mistaken. The strong scent is because we were close; it's unavoidable," Hao Jian said as cold sweat broke out.
"Is that so? Then what about this hickey on your neck?" Shu Ya suddenly pointed at a mark on Hao Jian's neck and said fiercely.
"A hickey?" Hao Jian's heart skipped a beat. Had he actually forgotten to deal with such an important thing?
"Now do you want to tell me that while you were discussing matters with Murong Qiushui last night, she bit you?" Shu Ya uttered through clenched teeth, realizing that this bastard was simply fooling her.
If it weren't for Ruo Lan's reminder, she may have actually fallen for Hao Jian's tricks.
"Well, I guess I should kneel then," Hao Jian was nearly in tears and knelt down again, not daring to make a noise. His intuition told him that silence was golden at this moment.
"You bastard, I'm going to skin you!" Shu Ya gritted her teeth and then charged straight into the kitchen.
"Shu Ya, Shu Ya, don't be rash, everything can be discussed. There's no need to bring out a knife," Ruo Lan hurriedly tried to stop her.
Hao Jian's mouth twitched, speechless. Did these women always have to bring out a knife at the slightest provocation? Why were women nowadays so frightening, too unsettled.
But just then, Hao Jian's phone rang. He hurriedly answered, "Who is this?"
"Is this Mr. Hao Jian?" A man's voice came through, sounding arrogant and somewhat smug.
"Yes, it's me. Who might you be?" Hao Jian furrowed his brow because the caller ID showed a strange number and he didn't recognize the owner of the number, so he was puzzled.
"You don't need to know who I am. All you need to know is that I have something you want to buy," the other party said with a cold laugh.
"Something I want to buy?" Hao Jian grew even more puzzled. "What on earth are you talking about? Is this some kind of prank?"
The other party had called to say some ridiculous things, leaving Hao Jian speechless.
"Check your phone. I sent you a text message; once you see it, you'll understand," the man chuckled coldly and then hung up.
Hao Jian stared at his phone but was as confused as a monk who had lost his scripture.
"Ding!"
Just then, a text message arrived. Hao Jian opened it and his eyes immediately sparkled with a cold light.
Because the message contained a video, and the video was of Qin Bing giving him oral sex in the car the previous night.
Soon, Hao Jian knew who had given this video to the man.
Last night, only that female toll collector saw me, she probably recognized who I was, and then she copied that video.
Thinking about it, Hao Jian found it amusing. Was he actually being blackmailed and extorted?
Seeing that Hao Jian's expression was off, Shu Ya and Ruo Lan stopped their frolic and stared at him intently; they were very curious about what had happened.
Before long, that call came again, and the man's voice grew more smug, "How about it, Mr. Hao Jian? What do you think would happen if this little video fell into the hands of Chairman Shu Ya, your wife?"
"Are you extorting me?" Hao Jian asked with a smile, finding the situation increasingly amusing. People still dared to blackmail him in this day and age? They must be greenhorns unafraid of tigers.
"What if I am? If you don't pay up, I guarantee this video will go straight to your wife, and I suppose with her temperament, she's not likely to let you off the hook so easily, right?" the other party scoffed, his voice brimming with unconcealed greed.
"Alright, how much do you want?" Hao Jian asked with a chuckle.
"Ten million!" the other replied, asking for a fortune straight away because he had already looked into Hao Jian's background and knew Hao Jian was rich enough to afford it.
"Ten million? You sure have a big appetite," Hao Jian couldn't help but sneer, finding the other party much greedier than he had imagined.
"What, does Mr. Hao Jian think your reputation isn't worth that much? If you don't care, then it's all the same to me, but I wonder what your wife would think," the man's voice grew increasingly haughty as if he was certain Hao Jian would pay.
"Alright, when do you want it? And where should I go to give it to you?" Hao Jian couldn't help but ask.
The other party seemed surprised that Hao Jian agreed so readily, without even trying to bargain; he felt somewhat regretful, thinking he should have asked for more since Hao Jian obviously didn't care about the ten million.
"This afternoon at two o'clock, at an abandoned car factory in the Southern Suburb on Shenming Road. Bring the money there. You're to come alone. If I find out you've brought someone else, don't blame me for sending the video to your wife!" the other party threatened coldly.
"Don't worry, I know the rules," Hao Jian responded with a faint smile.
After that, the call ended abruptly.
"What happened?" Ruo Lan couldn't help but ask.
"Someone's blackmailing me; now I have to go and pay the ransom," Hao Jian said playfully, finding the whole situation amusing. The nerve of someone trying to extort him; they must be out of their minds.
"Someone dares to blackmail you in Hua City?" Shu Ya also couldn't help but be astonished; wasn't this like looking for death in a toilet with an open lantern?
"Exactly, so I've got to see who this amazing person is, daring to make a move on Poria Cocos," Hao Jian sneered, then turned to Shu Ya with a flattering expression, "Wife, I need to go meet someone now, so if you want to deal with me, wait till I get back."
"Get lost!" Shu Ya replied irritably, though she knew Hao Jian had serious matters to attend to.
Hao Jian then left home, driving alone to the abandoned car factory the guy had mentioned. But before leaving, he had already called Li He to investigate the personal information of the female toll collector and her relationships.
The female toll collector's name was Ouyang Mei, and her boyfriend was named Zhao Duocai, an unemployed drifter involved in gambling, fighting, theft, and robbery; a man not averse to any misdeed.
Hao Jian quickly zeroed in on Zhao Duocai as the target, convincing himself that the man who had called him was definitely this Zhao Duocai. Only such a lowlife would think of blackmailing and extorting others.
Of course, that didn't mean Ouyang Mei was innocent, because if she hadn't deliberately kept that video, Zhao Duocai wouldn't have had access to it.
And it goes without saying why Zhao Duocai kept the video.
Upon arriving at the abandoned factory, Hao Jian saw Ouyang Mei and Zhao Duocai, along with a group of men and women, about a dozen in total, the men with tattoos and the women with dyed hair, clearly not the best sort.
Obviously, Ouyang Mei and company were worried he might bring backup, so they had prepared in advance.
Seeing Hao Jian appear, Ouyang Mei and Zhao Duocai were both excited, their faces filled with greed. They knew that Hao Jian was here to give them money, and it was ten million we're talking about. Soon, they would be rolling in cash, enough for them to live a life of excess for a long time.
"Mr. Hao Jian, you're quite punctual. You must be really afraid of your wife, huh? Having such a wealthy wife, you must be living the good life," Zhao Duocai mocked, his words laced with dissatisfaction; in his eyes, Hao Jian was nothing more than a kept man who could enjoy an easy life because of Shu Ya and even have money to squander on other women.
This irked Zhao Duocai. He felt he was much better than Hao Jian; why could Hao Jian be such a successful trophy husband while he remained a nobody?
But Hao Jian ignored him, instead looking at Ouyang Mei with a playful smile, "It really was you!"
Hao Jian hadn't guessed wrong; it was indeed Ouyang Mei who had betrayed him and wanted to extort him.
Ouyang Mei showed no sign of guilt or unease, instead scoffing, "Next time you decide to do something so dirty, try not to be so blatant about it."
"Dirty? Compared to what you're doing now, I think I could still be forgiven, don't you think?" Hao Jian was smiling too.
What do you think?
