Chapter 19 – Thieves must die
"Moo!" Black Bull called out to Chen Xun.
"Coming."
Chen Xun turned around, his eyes lighting up at the sight of silver, signaling the arrival of a wealthy patron. He smiled at Senior Brother Yu and said, "Young Master, my Bull has never seen silver before, please don't mind him."
"No worries."
Senior Brother Yu blinked, still somewhat dazed even after accepting the broken silver.
Standing outside the crowd, his junior brothers and sisters had gone to eat, and he frowned slightly as he observed Black Bull, a glint flashing in his eyes.
"A mortal body, no issues."
Senior Brother Yu murmured to himself, then turned to the vendor, "Also a mortal body, seems I was overthinking."
Chen Xun's stir-frying paused slightly as he felt someone probing him. The mana within his body fluctuated but was shielded by the World Soul.
"There are cultivators."
Chen Xun continued to cook nonchalantly, but he was on alert, calling out "Order up!" with a smile and scanning the crowd.
"That little girl called out to Senior Brother Yu, this group is likely not to be trifled with."
Chen Xun thought to himself, his hands not slowing down as he greeted everyone with a smile.
As midnight approached, the locals gradually went home, and the streets thinned out. Chen Xun prepared to close up shop.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we're closing up for the night, please stop eating..."
Chen Xun exclaimed in shock; these people had been eating here all night, and he was running out of ingredients, but he had made a tidy sum.
Junior Sister Ye huffed, "Keep cooking, we have plenty of silver."
"The flavor is indeed good."
Senior Brother Yu suddenly commented, having tried the food after seeing his juniors' high praise, and now he couldn't stop.
"Yes, boss, we're paying after all," the others echoed with admiration in their eyes.
"I'm out of ingredients, everyone..."
Chen Xun's pupils dilated. Could cultivators eat this much? Mainly because he had added some precious medicinal herbs they cultivated to the seasoning, which ordinary people couldn't afford.
"Boss, are you here every night?" Qing Ling asked with a smile, "I haven't tasted something this delicious in a long time."
"Not necessarily, my stall is mobile."
"Mobile?"
"It means I settle wherever I find suitable."
Chen Xun explained that staying in one place for too long wasn't ideal.
"Why don't you come to our sect and be a chef?"@@novelbin@@
"Qing Ling!"
Senior Brother Yu scolded coldly, "It's time to leave. If you say any more, I'll send you back."
Junior Sister Ye's hair stood on end, and the other juniors were also shaken by Senior Brother Yu's anger.
"Safe travels."
Chen Xun bowed with a smile, finally seeing off this group of formidable guests. He breathed a sigh of relief, "Bull, let's go."
"Moo!"
Black Bull ran out from the small house, and they easily pushed the stall together, stopping at an empty grassland.
"Bull, how much did we make today?"
Chen Xun wiped his sweat and grinned, "You've worked hard."
"Moo moo~~" Black Bull nuzzled Chen Xun, acting too modest.
"We'll save up more money. We've spent all our earnings these past years on our friends' funerals."
"Moo."
Black Bull nodded. Life was good now; they didn't need to socialize or make new acquaintances, which always seemed to lead to disappearances.
It had many friends, actually. The locals often came to chat and confide in it.
The locals thought Black Bull couldn't understand, but it did. It believed they were sincere and enjoyed listening to their stories.
"Bull."
Chen Xun suddenly slapped the bull's head, causing Black Bull to cry out in pain and confusion.
"Cheer up, will you? Trying to act all deep and brooding?"
Chen Xun feigned anger. It had been a while since he'd seen Bull's smiling face, "Why the long face?"
"Moo~~"
Black Bull mooed softly, lying in the small house and licking its hooves, its eyes filled with sadness, still not over it.
"We're doing good deeds, you know. Silently wish for our friends to be wealthy in their next lives, to live well every day."
Chen Xun said irritably, pulling out his trump card, "Heaven and the Buddha will bless them."
"Moo?"
Black Bull's eyes sparkled with interest, eager to discuss merits, deeply believing in them, "Moo moo moo?"
"Really! I've already done it, otherwise do you think I'd look like you?"
Chen Xun assured earnestly.
"Moo moo moo moo~~" Black Bull immediately sat up cross-legged, constantly mooing, as if chanting something.
Chen Xun shook his head and sighed softly. His mindset was slowly changing; this mobile house was his first step.
The longer they stayed in one place, the more attachments they seemed to form, and they were not heartless beings, ultimately unsuited for the mortal realm.
"Moo!"
"All done?"
"Moo~"
Black Bull snuggled up to Chen Xun, grinning. It had already dedicated all its merits to its friends and was ready to start accumulating anew.
"Ha ha ha..."
Chen Xun patted Black Bull, and they leaned on each other, gradually falling asleep.
In the days that followed, they settled wherever they found suitable in Panning City, exploring and sightseeing. At night, they sold snacks, and during the day, they shopped together, buying whatever they liked.
A year later, Chen Xun's mobile house had indeed made a name for itself in Panning City. Many people came specifically for it, all giving it a thumbs up for being delicious!
Finally, on a sunny morning as they went to stock up, their mobile house was stolen...
At that moment, Chen Xun was carrying two bags of meat, looking at the empty grassland. The bags of meat slowly fell from his shoulders, thudding heavily on the ground, and into their hearts.
"Where's our house?!"
"Moo moo? Moo!!"

Black Bull cried out in panic, running around the grassland, unable to find their house.
Both man and bull knelt before the grassland, their eyes hollow, feeling utterly forlorn, their home, gone again...
"Damn it, damn it all!"
Chen Xun's face was livid with rage, veins bulging on his forehead, "How could such a big house be stolen?!"
Black Bull trembled with anger, snorting at the ground, turf flying, utterly despicable!
"A gang, it must be the work of a large gang!"
Chen Xun spat angrily, observing the tracks on the ground, "Damn it, today we'll wreak havoc, our pots and pans are all in there, they've been with us for years!"
"Moo~~!!!"
Black Bull stood up, its muscles bulging, looking in the direction of the cart tracks. It couldn't have been moved fast, even they had to exert a lot of effort.
Chen Xun pulled out a bandit's bandana from his clothes, unbuttoned his shirt to reveal sixteen abs, and slowly drew two Mountain-axing axes from his waist. Black Bull silently stood by his side.
Their eyes focused in one direction, Chen Xun's chest heaving, "Bull, chase!"
"Moo!!"
Two figures turned into whirlwinds, their eyes bloodshot as they pursued their quarry. Today, unless the sky falls and the sun darkens, no one shall escape!
The thief must die!
Crossing the grassland, over the bridge, they saw it, they saw their house. Chen Xun roared with rage, leaping high and far.
Boom!
Chen Xun landed firmly on the mobile house, his demeanor unmatched, coldly stating, "In broad daylight, under the clear sky, what is the meaning of this!"
He slowly turned, his gaze falling to the ground, his pupils shrinking, as he saw nothing but soldiers.
"It's a misunderstanding!!"
"Moo moo!"
Chen Xun and Black Bull were taken to jail again, this time because their stall was too large, taking up space that belonged to the locals. Others needed to live too, and there were only so many spots in the bustling areas.
Numerous vendors had reported them, claiming Chen Xun's house was not following the rules, making it hard for them to survive.
Ten days later, Chen Xun and Black Bull walked out of the jail, disheveled. It was no place for humans. They looked up at the sky and smiled; freedom was sweet.
However, the officials were reasonable and returned their pots and pans, but the house had to be dismantled, and they were told not to do this again.
Chen Xun was grateful, weeping with joy, praising the heavens and vowing never to inconvenience others again. They were in the wrong.
What do you think?
