Chapter 40 – Five Aggregates Sect, Sect Comparison
"Let's go, Bull, let's join the crowd and see what's happening."
"Moo."
Chen Xun, leading Black Bull, dashed into the sky, following the crowd. The location of the sect's grand competition was on another peak, quite a distance away.
As they neared the mountain of the grand competition, disciples of the Five Aggregates Sect became increasingly numerous. Chen Xun, with his straw hat, leading Black Bull, didn't stand out at all.
There were not only spirited senior brothers but also junior sisters who clung to each other, their giggles unceasing, prompting many disciples to swallow their saliva in silence.
At the peak was a vast square, surrounded by nine stone pillars, with several elders meditating on top, overlooking the disciples with an unparalleled demeanor.
"Wow!" Chen Xun, leading Black Bull, wandered around. Countless disciples sat everywhere, taking out golden tokens to register.
The square was noisy with people everywhere, yet it didn't feel crowded at all. Clouds and mist even drifted by, adding an ethereal charm.
"Moo~" Black Bull nudged Chen Xun, wondering why he wasn't signing up.
"Let's just observe this year, no rush." Chen Xun smiled. He wanted to see what level the top five hundred disciples were at.
Black Bull nodded, stretching its head to observe the cultivators, its nostrils sniffing something unknown.

Three days later, divine light burst forth from the main peaks of the Five Aggregates Sect, and a resounding bell echoed everywhere. Roars from disciples could be heard throughout the Jade Bamboo Range.
Boom—
Boom—
...
Nine consecutive tolls, the reverberations unending, spread across the Jade Bamboo Range. Several people soared into the sky, traveling with light under their feet, without the aid of any magical artifact.
The annual grand competition of the sect officially began, also an opportunity for many disciples to see the sect's great figures.
As the mist cleared from a giant peak, all disciples ascended respectfully, not daring to fly up with their swords. Looking down at the mountain base, the sheer number of people was enough to make one's scalp tingle.
Chen Xun, leading Black Bull, walked at the end of the group, not even daring to breathe loudly. He had seen someone walking on air!
The overwhelming mana emanating from that person made both he and Black Bull feel like a single glance could obliterate them.
Atop the giant peak, numerous dark stands were erected, overlooking hundreds of fighting platforms, with a Foundation Establishment elder standing by every three platforms.
They sat calmly, cross-legged, waiting for the younger generation.
"Greetings to the elders, greetings to the Sect Master!"
"Greetings to the elders, greetings to the Sect Master!"
...
All disciples bowed and saluted, their voices echoing around, stirring the clouds and creating a majestic atmosphere.
On the stands, thirteen distinguished figures stood up, each with a different expression and attire, looking at the tens of thousands of disciples.
Their transcendent aura made them impossible to ignore, even in a crowd, they stood out at first glance.
"The future is to be feared. The Five Aggregates Sect's grand competition officially begins!"
Sect Master You Yuanhua smiled slightly, his robe fluttering without wind, his resonant voice reaching every corner, each disciple feeling as if they were under his gaze.
Without any superfluous words, all disciples turned red with excitement, looking towards the various fighting platforms, mana churning within them.
The Foundation Establishment elders' eyes flashed as a jade slip spread across the sky: "In the grand competition, life and death are fated; if you are defeated on the platform, you may concede."
The elders, standing on magical artifacts, rose into the air, careful not to exceed the height of the stands.
They looked at the disciples expressionlessly, channeling mana into the jade slip: "Begin!"
As the words fell, a faint glow emanated from the talismans in the hands of the registered disciples, opponents chosen at random, the first battle entirely dependent on luck.
Below the stands, hundreds of Inner Disciples stood at the forefront, dressed in white, their eyes sparkling with eagerness, looking towards the various dueling platforms.
The gazes of the thirteen figures on the stands also swept across the area; these juniors were the future of the sect, and they did not want any talent to be overlooked.
As their gazes reached the platforms, the duels intensified, each participant eager to showcase their full strength.
On one platform, two disciples in green robes faced each other. One broke out in a cold sweat, his heart trembling, "How did I end up against him!"
"Bai Shi... Senior Brother, I look forward to your guidance." He was at the eighth level of Qi cultivation, limited in strength, but still had the power to fight, not wanting to be looked down upon.
"If you lose, Junior Brother, don't be discouraged. There's always next year."
Bai Shi smiled affably, his naturally gentle demeanor complemented by his chiseled features, truly perfect.
A roar of cheers erupted from the crowd, countless female disciples swooning, shouting for Brother Bai!
Many junior brothers also gathered around the platform, cheering for their Senior Brother, putting immense pressure on the other competitor.
"Ah, man."
An incongruous voice emerged as Chen Xun, leading Black Bull, found a spot under the shade of a tree, looking at the junior sisters and clicking his tongue in admiration.
"Handsome and strong, popular in any world."
"Moo moo!"
Black Bull shook its head, nudging Chen Xun. It thought Chen Xun was the most handsome, even though he never bothered to groom himself.
Chen Xun leaned against the tree shade, fanning himself with his straw hat, occasionally picking his nose, watching the scene with great interest.
On the platform, Bai Shi's gaze suddenly sharpened, a Wind Riding Technique bolstering his feet, he stomped on the platform, sending a tremor through it.
Mana ripples spread violently in all directions, a suffocating aura directly assaulting his opponent, a slender sword slowly appearing in his hand.
The opposing disciple was quick to react, activating a talisman, several white lights flashing on the platform, suddenly appearing under Bai Shi's feet.
"Earth Spike Talisman, Junior Brother has really gone all out."
Bai Shi smiled slightly, his body twisting strangely, perfectly avoiding the spikes, his eyes showing ease.
"What?!" The opposing disciple couldn't believe his eyes, not even Bai Shi's robe had been touched.
"Clang."
With mana-infused sword energy, Bai Shi struck out, the disciple took a deep breath, clenched his teeth, and took the hit, staggering back several steps.
He felt a sweetness in his throat, forcefully swallowing the blood, steadying his stance, bloodshot eyes appearing as he launched another talisman.
"Giant Strength Talisman!" The disciple was unwilling to give up, if he couldn't match in mana, he would compete in physical prowess.
His muscles bulged, a fierce aura enveloping him, he roared and charged forward with his sword.
Bai Shi's eyes showed a hint of seriousness, slapping his Storage Bag, another flying sword emerged, whistling sharply.
But it stopped half a zhang from the disciple, blocked by a golden light barrier, he chuckled softly: "Vajra Talisman!"
Under the shade, Chen Xun and Black Bull's eyes widened. While others dueled with mana, this person was dueling with spirit stones.
"A rich disciple indeed." Chen Xun blinked, looking at Black Bull, "When can we ever have so many spirit stones?"
The talismans kept coming, vexing the Senior Brother greatly.@@novelbin@@
"Moo~" Black Bull mooed noncommittally, its eyes round with surprise, finding the diverse dueling methods overwhelming.
"Ah, movement techniques!" Chen Xun got excited; he wanted to learn a movement technique to maximize his speed.
On the platform, Bai Shi didn't confront the disciple head-on, continuously dodging with his movement technique until the Giant Strength Talisman's effect wore off, leaving the disciple weakened.
The battle ended predictably with Bai Shi's victory, but this was not his true strength; his real opponents were the Inner Disciples.
What do you think?
