Chapter 44 – Senior brother is firing at me
Finally, at the moment they clashed, the spirit beast he had overlooked sprang into action!
"MOO!!" An ambush! A black shadow burst forth from the side with such speed that he, now entangled by Chen Xun, couldn't react in time.
"Ah, damn it!!!" Liu Tao's face twisted in grief and indignation, the humiliation unbearable as he was shoved out of the fighting platform by Black Bull.
Chen Xun seemed on the verge of collapse too, falling onto Black Bull. Seeing this from below the platform, Liu Tao was taken aback and secretly admired Chen Xun's formidable perseverance.
"Senior Brother... thank you for yielding." Chen Xun weakly opened his eyes, revealing a faint smile.
"Junior Brother, you should heal first. We can spar again next year." Liu Tao clasped his hands in respect, internally acknowledging Chen Xun's strength. This battle had been satisfying and enlightening.
"Alright." Chen Xun struggled to return the gesture and was led away from the duel platform by Black Bull. Liu Tao even stepped forward to offer a healing Qi-Enhancing Pill.
Chen Xun burst into tears, moved as he grasped Senior Brother Liu's hand. Liu Tao was shocked, guilt appearing in his eyes, wondering if he had been too heavy-handed.
The surrounding disciples looked at Liu Tao with odd expressions, as if Chen Xun was the victor. Frightened, Liu Tao quickly made his escape, shaking his head along the way.
Half an hour later, Chen Xun, leading Black Bull, approached the Foundation Establishment elder and bowed, "Elder, I wish to continue the fight."
"In your current state, you can still fight?"
The elder frowned slightly, observing the disciple with a straw hat full of holes, disheveled hair sticking out, and bloodstains on his hands.
"I can." Chen Xun looked down with a defiant smile.
"If you insist, I won't discourage you." The elder nodded slightly. Such stubborn disciples were not uncommon, but they always ended up hurting themselves.
A surge of mana was channeled into Chen Xun's yellow talisman, causing it to flicker with light. Chen Xun then turned his gaze to another fighting platform, his next opponent.
Chen Xun stumbled onto the platform, shocking his opponent at the eighth level of Qi cultivation, who worried he might accidentally kill him.@@novelbin@@
An hour later, a voice roared from the platform, "Junior Brother, can you still hold on?!!"
"Senior Brother... come on!!" Chen Xun bellowed, staggering, his straw hat now sporting a large hole, still smoking.
The disciple at the eighth level of Qi cultivation looked on grimly. "You can keep going, but I'm about to collapse. Who duels for an hour? Who has such abundant mana!"
"MOO!!" Seeing his chance, Black Bull made his move with a sly glint in his eyes, charging forward!
"Ah? An ambush?!" The man screamed in shock, tracing a graceful arc in the air before landing solidly outside the platform. Chen Xun claimed his third victory!
Chen Xun was then carried by Black Bull to the shade of a distant tree, appearing grievously injured, as if on death's door.
Under the tree, Chen Xun came to, leaning against the trunk with a smile.
"MOO?" Black Bull lay beside him, his big mouth quivering.
"I've got it, don't worry." Chen Xun removed his straw hat, revealing a head of hair like an explosion, his body covered in wounds.
Black Bull continuously licked Chen Xun's wounds, who patted the bull's head and took out a healing medicine from his Storage Bag, "It's just superficial, no big deal."
"MOO~" Black Bull still looked concerned. Although they often got hurt back in their small village, dueling was a different matter, potentially fatal.
"Heh, I learned quite a bit of medicine from Teacher Ning. These injuries are nothing."
Chen Xun spoke nonchalantly, knowing that as long as it wasn't internal damage, the ointment would heal him in a few days without leaving scars.
"They have limited mana; they can't outlast us. If we truly used our spells, they wouldn't survive."
Chen Xun smiled slightly, fond of his junior brothers and sisters.
"MOO~" Black Bull nodded, indeed, their spells were too terrifying to use without causing death or injury.
"Probably six victories will suffice. Tomorrow, we win three more, and we'll get those 500 contribution points."
"MOO~~" Black Bull nuzzled Chen Xun, eyes gleaming with joy.
Chen Xun took out some sunflower seeds from his Storage Bag, and they ate together, watching the various dueling platforms crowded with people and filled with the sounds of intense combat.
The next day, Chen Xun was full of energy, his opponents growing stronger. But no matter how flashy their spells, they all required mana to sustain.
Chen Xun began his torturous path, enduring duels that started at an hour each, tormenting anyone who faced him.
The surrounding disciples had wanted to watch, but they grew drowsy and quickly left for other platforms, which were far more exciting.
"Junior Brother, I can't hold on anymore!!" A pitiful scream rang out, his features distorted with fear in his eyes as he looked at Chen Xun.
"Senior Brother, hang in there!" Chen Xun roared encouragingly, "I'm still good!"
"MOO!!" Black Bull's ambush sent him tumbling off the platform, his expression revealing a hint of relief as it finally ended.
Chen Xun secured his fourth victory.
...
An hour later.
"Junior Brother, I beg you, stop holding on, just surrender!"
"Impossible, as cultivators, we must have pride. Senior Brother, let's battle for another day!"
"MOO!!" Black Bull's ambush, Black Bull's tail swipe!
Senior Brother, with nothing left to live for, looked up at the sky and collapsed outside the platform, drained of all mana.
Chen Xun claimed his fifth victory.
...
An hour later.
"Junior Brother, I have countless talismans yet to be activated, you can't outlast this!"
"Senior Brother, fire at me!!!"
Half an hour later, Senior Brother was trembling, his eyes quivering, his talismans all gone...
"MOO." Ambush, Black Bull's charge!
"Ah!!"
Senior Brother screamed, his body flying through the air, tears streaming down his face, lamenting the loss of his possessions.
Chen Xun achieved his sixth victory, though his legs were shaking, and he had to be supported by Black Bull to get to the next fight.
Although Chen Xun was unremarkable, his indomitable will shocked even the Foundation Establishment elders, who watched his platform intently.
"Junior Brother..." Senior Brother watched Chen Xun, who could barely stand, with a furrowed brow, unsure how to proceed.
Chen Xun's hair flew wildly, his eyes bloodshot. He bent over, hands on his knees, and slowly raised his head, "Senior Brother... let's fight!"
"I shall give Junior Brother the respect he deserves." Senior Brother's solemn gaze was filled with shock and admiration.
In just a short while, accompanied by Chen Xun's roar and flailing fists full of openings, Senior Brother merely stepped aside, his eyes filled with emotion.
A cold wind blew, and Chen Xun could hold on no longer, falling like a pillar onto the platform.
"Junior Brother!"
"MOO!!"
They rushed forward to check on him. Fortunately, he was unharmed, and even a Foundation Establishment elder came to assess, "He's fine, just worn from consecutive battles. He'll recover after some days of rest."
"Thank you, Uncle-Master." Senior Brother bowed.
The Foundation Establishment elder nodded, his eyes reflecting a touch of sentiment. This man was likely from a solitary cultivator background, and such people often possessed these traits.
It was a helpless acceptance of their own limitations and a defiance against fate, fighting to the last drop of blood, never admitting defeat.
Yet in reality, no great figures took notice. Such people were too common, their unyielding spirit merely impotent rage, unable to change their innate cultivation potential.
Chen Xun was dragged down the mountain by Black Bull.
What do you think?
