Chapter 393 When the Night Lights Up
Chapter 393 When the Night Lights Up
Miyu stared at her, utterly baffled. "What are you even talking about?"
Mar'Garet chuckled softly. "It seems it is my responsibility to enlighten you."
Meanwhile...
Axel nudged Blitz as they both watched from a distance.
"You know," Axel mused, "the real reason Miyu dragged Mar'Garet away is probably so Boss can have some alone time with Cinder."
Blitz grinned mischievously as she said, "You know, I've heard a rumor that Ferris wheels have claimed the dignity of many strong men!"
Axel raised an eyebrow. "What?"
Blitz leaned in, whispering conspiratorially. "I heard that crazy couples sometimes have a go at it in Ferris wheels!" She clapped a hand to her forehead. "Could Boss fall there too?!"
Axel snorted. "I mean, he is a man. Who knows?"
Blitz waved a hand. "Tch. I bet he's too stiff for that. But if he does… we never speak of it again."
Elsewhere...
Anzo was still trying to argue with Beatrice.
"Come on, just one more match!"
Beatrice sighed, shaking her head. "No, Anzo. We already did three races. You lost. Just accept it."
"I refuse! One more chance!"
"No."
"Best out of five!"
"No."
"Ten!"
Beatrice shot him a flat look. "Anzo, give up."
Anzo groaned, gripping his hair. "I can't! My pride won't allow it!"
Beatrice simply smiled. "Then your pride better learn how to deal with disappointment."
Anzo flinched as if physically struck. "Y-You're cruel!"
Beatrice chuckled. "Not cruel. Just realistic."
And with that, she walked off, leaving Anzo to dramatically mourn his wounded ego.
Lila trailed a few steps behind Miyu and Mar'Garet, half-listening to their conversation while keeping an eye on the lively atmosphere of the park around them.
The scent of fried food lingered in the air, blending with the chatter and laughter of the crowd.
Just as she was about to catch up, she felt a faint vibration in her pocket.
Frowning, she reached in and pulled out a small, smooth white cube. Tapping its surface, a holographic screen projected from it, revealing a message.
Her eyes widened. Her grip on the cube tightened as she read the words again, just to be sure.
She suddenly tensed up. Without wasting a moment, she turned around, scanning the crowd until she spotted Beatrice and Anzo.
"Beatrice! Anzo!" she called out.
Beatrice turned, surprised. "Yeah, what is it?"
"Something came up. I have to go," Lila said, already shifting on her feet as if she were prepared to run off at any moment.
Beatrice blinked. "Like… right now?"
"Yes. I'm sorry, but it's urgent."
Beatrice's brows furrowed slightly. Lila was many things—shy, soft-spoken, always eager to help—but urgent? Beatrice had never seen her like this before. It was almost… unsettling.
After a beat, Beatrice sighed and nodded. "Alright. I'll be sure to tell the others."
Lila exhaled in relief. "Thank you!" she said before turning and breaking into a sprint, vanishing into the bustling crowd.
As she disappeared, Anzo crossed his arms. "What do you think that was about?"
Beatrice glanced in the direction Lila had run off, her expression thoughtful. "I don't know… maybe something related to her family? Could be an emergency."
Anzo rubbed the back of his head. "I hope everything's alright. Wouldn't want it to be anything serious."
Beatrice chuckled, giving him a teasing look. "I didn't know you had a soft side."
Anzo's eye twitched. "Like hell I will!" he shouted. "The day I accept defeat of any kind is the day I die! Come on, we are having that rematch whether you like it or not!"
Beatrice rolled her eyes but couldn't help the grin on her lips as Anzo dragged her toward their next competition.
Anzo immediately tensed, his face frowning. "What kind of monster do you take me for?!"
Beatrice smirked. "Oh, I don't know… one that doesn't know how to accept that he's lost and move on."
…
Cinder and Alister strolled toward the Ferris wheel, the towering structure illuminated with bright, spinning lights. The gentle sound of the machinery and the soft chatter of couples and families filled the air.
Cinder's crimson eyes flicked upward, observing the massive wheel with curiosity. "So… this is the Ferris wheel you spoke of?" she asked.
Alister nodded. "Yeah. It's a slow ride, but you get a great view from the top. Thought you'd enjoy it."
Cinder tilted her head. "Hmm… then I suppose we should try it."
They approached the ticket booth, where a middle-aged man in a yellow and red uniform greeted them with a friendly smile. "Welcome to the Ferris wheel! You two came at just the right time. In a little while, we'll be setting off fireworks to celebrate the park's anniversary!"
Alister reached into his coat and pulled out a sleek, silver card embossed with his guild's emblem—the White Comet Guild's Union Card. "Two tickets," he said, handing it over.
The staff member scanned the card and then suddenly froze, eyes widening. His gaze darted between the card and Alister before recognition dawned on him.
"Wait… you're the Dragon Lord, aren't you? Alister of the White Comet Guild!"
Alister exhaled through his nose, already bracing himself. "That's me."
The man grinned. "Unbelievable! My son is a huge fan of yours! He always talks about how you command mighty dragons and fight monsters like they're nothing. He even has a figure of you—limited edition!"
Cinder blinked. "You have… figurines of yourself?"
Alister rubbed the back of his head. "Apparently. It's not like I commissioned them or anything. The guild is usually the one that handles such deals."
The staff member laughed. "Well, my son's gonna freak out when I tell him I met you! I hope you and your companion have a great time on the ride!" He handed them their tickets with a cheerful nod.
As they stepped toward the boarding platform, Cinder glanced at Alister. "What are fireworks?"
He looked at her in surprise. "You don't know what fireworks are?"
She frowned slightly. "Should I?"
Alister smirked. "I guess not, if you've never seen them before."
He crossed his arms, thinking for a moment before explaining. "Fireworks are explosions of light in the sky. They're made from special powders that burn in different colors and patterns. People use them for celebrations."
What do you think?
