Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Qiao Xi, The One I Want to Save is You
Qiao Xi quickly closed her eyes and pulled the blanket over her to feign sleep.
She could clearly hear the door open, and the footsteps grew increasingly near. A large portion of the mattress beside her dipped, and that familiar fragrance of cold wood subtly wafted in.
It was Huo Xingzhou!
Qiao Xi’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, as the bitterness and complexity in her heart fermented.
The wall lamp glowed dimly, and beneath it, the man’s face was cold and flawless like jade. He reached out with his warm fingers and gently touched the corners of her eyes.
They were wet.
The man’s voice was gentle, “Qiao Xi, I know you are awake.”
Qiao Xi, caught in her act, slowly opened her eyes to meet Huo Xingzhou’s deep and undisturbed gaze.
Her eyes were red and swollen, like walnuts, filled with accusation and grievance.
“Are you unhappy?” he asked.
Qiao Xi stubbornly shook her head, “I’m not unhappy. It’s getting late, Mr. Huo, you should go back and rest.”
Her tone was distant and strange, as if urging him to leave.
Huo Xingzhou fixedly glanced at her and said, “Alright, then I’m really leaving.”
He was a king at gauging hearts and could naturally see through the petulance in her heart.
She was inherently insecure and not brave enough.
Qiao Xi’s heart was steeped in sourness as her broken hair clung to both sides of her temples. Watching him stand up to leave, her eyes filled with moisture, mistily obscuring her vision.
Didn’t he want to explain anything further to her?
“Silly girl.”
Huo Xingzhou suddenly turned around and, seeing her like that, pounced forward, pinning her down on the soft bed.
Looking down from above, the man asked, “If I leave, will you be able to sleep tonight?”
Qiao Xi stared at him, lacking the courage to ask. It seemed that saying those words amounted to surrendering to him. Matters of the heart are always a game of chess. She might be naive, but she didn’t want to submit.
“I can,” she said defiantly.
Huo Xingzhou extended his finger, and as it stroked the corner of her lips, he could feel the moistness, “What do I have to do to pry open that mouth of yours?”
Qiao Xi’s hands clung tightly to the sheets, her fair legs tense and straight.
Silence, no sound.
Huo Xingzhou suddenly lowered his head to capture her lips in a finely dense kiss, scorching and wet. He bit her plump, gleaming lips with force, his hands pinching her slender waist.
The water in Qiao Xi’s eyes shimmered as she couldn’t suppress the whimpers from between her lips and tongue…
As his hand lifted the hem of her nightdress, Qiao Xi cried out in shame and alarm, “I… I got my period.” Her eyes were red-rimmed, making her look very vulnerable.
The man’s breath was ragged against her cheek, “Does it hurt?”
Feeling very wronged, Qiao Xi’s tears burst forth, “It doesn’t hurt.”
Actually, it hurt like hell!
It was as if a blunt knife was slicing through her flesh, again and again.
Huo Xingzhou wiped her tears away and said, “Still being strong.”
Qiao Xi’s face was streaked with tears, her eyes clear as if washed, and it seemed she mustered all her courage to ask, “Mr. Huo, is Miss Xu very important to you?”
Huo Xingzhou rolled over to lie beside her and said softly, “Qiao Xi, tonight I wanted to rescue you.”
But he had been tricked.
Qing Lake was dim, and Xiang Huai dived into the water without a second thought to save a life. Huo Xingzhou had been sure he would save Xu Xingluo, so he swam in another direction.
But even Xiang Huai was deceitful.
He had been entangled by Xu Xingluo and couldn’t break free.
“Sorry for putting you in danger.”
Qiao Xi felt the resentment within her dissipate significantly after hearing his explanation.
“Mr. Huo, do you believe me? I really didn’t push her.” Qiao Xi felt terribly insecure in front of this man.
She knew she had fallen for him.
His gentle and restrained demeanor was like poison, addicting her.
Huo Xingzhou gently wrapped his arms around her shoulders and said, “With your character, there’s no need for you to do such a thing. The Liu Family and the Xu Family treat her as the jewel in their crown and she’s been spoiled rotten, try to avoid confronting her directly.”
Qiao Xi looked at him, perhaps he and Xu Xingluo had once shared sweet moments, but they were in the past now.
She tried to ignore the thorn in her heart and leaned closer to nestle in his embrace.
Huo Xingzhou’s hand rested on her abdomen. His warm palm caressed her as he said, “Qiao Xi, don’t bottle up your grievances.”
Qiao Xi turned her head and kissed his cheek, her eyes glistening.
“Okay.”
The corners of Huo Xingzhou’s mouth twitched slightly, “Now, I want to…”
After hearing him, her left hand went numb and she quickly hid both hands under the sheets, whispering, “Only for a little while.”
He actually hadn’t meant it that way, but her adorable misunderstanding was too cute to correct, so Huo Xingzhou played along.
“Not too little,” whispered the man, barely audible.
The friction of clothes and the churning of the covers created rustling sounds. Muffled kisses and low murmurs emerged faintly.
…
In the hallway of the Liu Family home.
The atmosphere was tense and anxious.
The two families had complex thoughts, their expressions varied.
The white-coated private doctor walked out of the room, removed his mask, and said, “No serious problems, the asthma was triggered by falling into the water, and there’s a slight fever.”
“That’s good to hear.” Liu Huimin clutched her chest and breathed a long sigh of relief as she walked into the room; seeing the bruised cheeks of Xu Xingluo, her heart ached again.
Liu Huimin hugged her and cried out, “Baby, you’ve broken mommy’s heart!”
Xu Xingluo nestled in her embrace, sobbing pitifully.
She wiped away her tears and looking at the full room, said, “Great Uncle, Aunt, Grandmother, I’m sorry! Xingluo has worried you and spoiled the little cousin’s full moon celebration, it’s all Xingluo’s fault.”
Her mature demeanor was heart-wrenching.
Madame Liu patted her head, comforting, “It’s good that Xingluo is okay, we don’t blame you.”
Liu Zongquan said in a deep voice, “The security at Qing Lake hasn’t been withdrawn yet. I heard that the Huo Family rushed the most famous trace expert to Haicheng overnight to investigate the truth.”
His eyes were calm yet profound as he looked at Xu Xingluo and asked, “Xingluo, what exactly happened then?”
Xu Xingluo’s expression froze, and tears immediately fell, “Uncle, I was too scared at the time, I just felt someone push me, but it might have been an illusion.”
Liu Zongquan wasn’t so easily fooled, he stared intently at Xu Xingluo and said, “I want the truth.”
Xu Xingluo shook her head pitifully, “I can’t remember clearly.”
Liu Zongquan glanced at her indifferently and said, “What the Huo Family wants is our attitude; the trace expert is secondary. No matter what the truth is, you’ll apologize in person tomorrow to clear Qiao Xi’s suspicion.”
Xu Xingluo was taken aback.
Standing to the side, Liu Huimin lovingly caressed Xu Xingluo’s cheek, the palm print all too apparent.
With a cold face, she said, “Why should my daughter apologize?”
Liu Zongquan took a deep breath and said, “Because she is the apprentice of the National Doctor Cheng Han! Our Liu Family owes her a favor! Whether Zong Yun will wake up depends entirely on whether she is willing to help!”
Tears streamed down Xu Xingluo’s face as she said, “For my little uncle, I’m willing to do anything.”
“Good girl,” Liu Huimin held her, crying with heartache, but inside she resented Qiao Xi even more.
Xu Xingluo’s eyes were bloodshot as she smiled and said, “Mom, I’m not wronged.”
She was more afraid of the arrival of the trace expert; she had to find a way to destroy all traces at Qing Lake!
What do you think?
