Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Last night was intense, wasn’t it?
“Aunt Qian,” Huo Xingzhou said helplessly, “it’s not what you think, please help her up.”
“Alright.”
Aunt Qian set down the Hangover Soup, busily tidying up while sneakily taking photos with her phone.
She propped Qiao Xi up onto the big bed and helped Huo Xingzhou back into his wheelchair before saying, “The Young Madam is asleep, do we still need the Hangover Soup?”
Aunt Qian’s eyes were like a microscope, not missing any detail. She had to observe everything closely to report back to the madam.
“Just leave it aside for now.”
...
“Okay, then. The Young Madam can sleep here tonight, so you both can look after each other.”
“Mhm.” He could stay elsewhere tonight.
With Huo Xingzhou’s permission, Aunt Qian left joyfully, even forgetting to close the door behind her.
Once outside, she couldn’t wait to dial Du Juan’s number, speaking as she walked: “Madam! They kissed, they kissed… it was so intense that even their lips were swollen!”
“I saw the Young Madam on top of the young master… I never expected the Young Madam, who looks so obedient usually, to have such courage!” she exclaimed with an unrestrained voice, “If it wasn’t for the young master’s condition, you might have had a grandson tonight!”
“The wheelchair was overturned, I blushed at the scene. I’ve taken sneaky photos, I’ll send them to you right away!”
Huo Xingzhou overheard the fragmented sentences, thinking Aunt Qian’s ability to sneak photos was on par with a paparazzi.
He took a deep breath and couldn’t help but clench his fists, a faint blush spreading over his neck.
Such passion and intensity were madness that he had never experienced before, and he was almost unable to resist.
The medicine she prepared was indeed effective!
But was it really just the medicine?
…
The next day.
When Qiao Xi woke up, it was already close to noon; she had a splitting headache. To make matters worse, she found herself in Huo Xingzhou’s bed, with no recollection of when her phone had been turned off.
“You’re finally awake, Young Madam. Have something to eat.” Aunt Qian brought a bowl of brown sugar with an egg and placed it in front of Qiao Xi, “It’ll warm up your stomach, and you’ll feel better.”
“Thank you, Aunt Qian.”
Qiao Xi took the bowl, eating one spoonful after another, while Aunt Qian watched her meaningfully until she finished.
“What happened last night… How did I come back?” she asked, her memory fragmented; she only remembered calling Huo Xingzhou and then nothing.
“The young master carried you back!” Aunt Qian said excitedly.
Qiao Xi blushed, asking in a low voice, “Then where is he now?”
“He’s in the next room, soaking in a medicinal bath.”
“Oh, then I’ll go check on him.”
After tidying up a bit, Qiao Xi went to see him. Pushing the door open, she saw the man, engulfed in steam, sitting in a large bath, his upper body exposed with the brown medicinal water concealing key areas.
“Woken up?” Huo Xingzhou assessed her with a voice that was cold, his inner turmoil hidden.
“Thank you, Mr. Huo, for bringing me back last night. Otherwise…” She knew Chen Xu was interested in her and suspected there was something wrong with the “drink” she’d been given.
“Is that all you have to say?” Huo Xingzhou stared at her red lips as he spoke.
Looking at him bewildered, Qiao Xi asked, “Did I… do anything else?”
Huo Xingzhou felt as if he had been doused with a bucket of ice water, becoming noticeably colder: “You didn’t do much.” He just endured her kisses and embraces, nearly losing control.
So when she said she would “forget by tomorrow,” it was true.
This woman had alcohol-induced memory blackouts!
Then there was no need for him to help her fulfill her wish to start a clinic either.
Aladdin’s lamp?
It had been years since Huo Xingzhou had engaged in such childish antics.
Qiao Xi stood there awkwardly, unsure what she had done to upset him. But mood swings and irritability were quite normal for patients. As a doctor, she decided it was best to be understanding.
“The medicinal bath is ready, now help me dry off and get dressed,” he commanded.
“Mr. Huo, are you wearing shorts?”
Huo Xingzhou sneered, “I am your patient, so if I’m not dressed, you wouldn’t help me up?”
Qiao Xi was silenced by his words, took the towel in hand, and helped him out of the bath tub, relieved to see his lower body covered in black fabric.
She wiped his body dutifully with the towel, removing the brown medicinal liquid, and finally wrapped him entirely in a bathrobe.
“Mr. Huo, what are those red spots on your neck?” Qiao Xi noticed the red dots on his skin and worried that he was allergic.
Huo Xingzhou felt a surge of irritation and sneered coldly, “Subcutaneous bruising, it’s nothing serious.”
What subcutaneous bruising? It was from when someone insisted on drinking water and got sucked out!
Qiao Xi nodded, “Indeed, it’s nothing serious, they’ll fade in two or three days.”
Chortle.
Laughter came from the doorway.
The handsome and beautiful man leaned against the doorframe, unable to contain his amusement as he looked at them, “Sorry to interrupt the two of you.”
“Mr. Zhou.”
“Sister-in-law, hello.”
Huo Xingzhou’s gaze turned dangerous as Zhou Yu held up a portfolio in his hand, “I’m here to deliver something.”
“Bring it here.”
Zhou Yu eagerly handed over the portfolio, “The selection for the auction has been confirmed, and it includes something you want.”
Qiao Xi saw they had serious business to discuss and said, “I’ll go check on the herbal medicine in the kitchen.”
“Sister-in-law doesn’t need to leave; we’re all family here.”
Qiao Xi paused in her tracks.
Huo Xingzhou glanced at her and said, “Come over and take a look.”
“Oh.”
Qiao Xi approached and saw his slender fingers flipping through the auction catalogue. Every item was exceptionally valuable, way beyond her means. Suddenly, her gaze fixed on a particular auction lot and she felt a pang of desire.
She glanced subconsciously at Huo Xingzhou, who nonchalantly set the catalogue aside.
“Sister-in-law, it’s the auction that Huo Beiting personally asked me to find, very thoughtfully,” Zhou Yu said with a smile.
Qiao Xi couldn’t confirm her internal speculation.
“Enough talk. Is there anything else?” His impatience was visible; he didn’t want to continue discussing the auction.
Zhou Yu straightened up and said, “Huo Beiting and Su Weiwei are together now, flaunting it boastfully. They’ll be attending this auction as well.” @@novelbin@@
“Birds of a feather,” Huo Xingzhou quipped sarcastically.
Qiao Xi stole a glance at him. Su Weiwei was once his fiancée; being replaced must have felt humiliating for Huo Xingzhou.
“Huo Beiting is going there to show off and to prepare for the groundbreaking ceremony.” The Future City project had been handed over to Huo Beiting, and naturally, he wanted to make a grand spectacle of the first day’s ceremony, inviting all the wealthy individuals in town.
To show off his splendor to everyone.
Zhou Yu snickered, “It’ll be funny when he lifts a rock only to drop it on his own foot.”
“If he wants to show off, let him bleed a big sum first.”
“Huo Beiting, do you have any wicked ideas for the auction?”
Hum hum.
Qiao Xi listened intently, but her phone in her pocket vibrated.
Both men turned to look at her.
Qiao Xi took out her phone and saw the caller’s name on the screen, her expression turning uneasy as she said, “Mr. Huo, I need to take this call outside.”
Huo Xingzhou narrowed his eyes—was that call from Chen Xu again? What contact information hadn’t he blocked yet?
Zhou Yu poked Huo Xingzhou with a finger and whispered gossipingly, “Last night, it was intense, right?”
He stretched out his hand and made an ambiguous gesture.
“Huo Beiting, come on, tell me.”
What do you think?
