Chapter 212: Chapter 209: Tail and Track!
He furrowed his brow and then followed suit into the building.
However, just as he had climbed one floor, he suddenly saw the man from the van hurrying down from upstairs, as if there was something up there.
Huo Qi was stunned again.
This man had just gone up and come down without even entering a door.
What was upstairs if not Wen Xian and Sang Nian?
For a moment, in the blink of an eye, a thought flashed through his mind.
Huo Qi watched the person quickly get into the van and, thinking of the strange noise he had heard coming from the vehicle, his eyes widened.
After that, he threw caution to the wind and dashed out just as the van stepped on the gas.
He hastily hailed a taxi by the roadside, got in, and directly said to the driver, “Driver, follow that car ahead!”
He then hurriedly called Wen Xian.
She seemed to be busy with something on her end, and it took a while before she picked up the call. Huo Qi’s breath was still somewhat unsettled as he said:
“Xianxian! I’ve spotted a suspicious person; he just went into the residential building. When he saw you guys upstairs, he immediately came back down, and I heard some noises inside his car—it doesn’t seem right.”
As soon as these words were out, Wen Xian immediately replied, “Where are you now! We’re coming right now!”
As she spoke, Huo Qi could hear the urgent sound of her descending the stairs.
“I’ll send you my location; I’m in a taxi asking the driver to follow that car!”
After hanging up the call, Huo Qi hurried to share his location.
The driver, having overheard his conversation and looking at him, suddenly seemed excited, “Are you an undercover cop? Are we chasing a criminal?”
At this, Huo Qi was taken aback.
Him, an undercover cop? Chasing a criminal?
Looking at the gleam in the driver’s eyes, Huo Qi suddenly felt an inexplicable surge of emotion and unabashedly replied:
“You figured it all out; you’re sharp, Driver. We must keep up with that car! We can’t lose it!”
“That’s how they do it on TV! Don’t worry, I’ll keep up! We can’t let the criminals get away!”
With that, the driver became even more determined, eyes locked on the van, foot slamming down on the accelerator in hot pursuit.
Huo Qi was so frightened he grabbed onto the car’s handrails, almost unable to keep his seat.
As Huo Qi was doggedly in pursuit up front, Wen Xian and Sang Nian quickly followed in their SUV.
They had come up empty-handed at Fang Zhi’s place just now; she insisted the dog was dead and offered to lead them to it tomorrow.
Wen Xian felt there were too many dubious points and wanted to ask more, but just then, Huo Qi’s call came through.
She never expected that Huo Qi, who usually seemed frivolous and clueless, could actually come through at a crucial moment!
The van sped away, finally entering a village far from the city center, with a sign by the roadside bearing the village’s name.
A twenty-minute car ride from the city area.
Though there were still cars on this side of the road, they were sparse; Huo Qi told the driver to carefully maintain their distance, grateful for the inconspicuous taxi.
Upon entering the village, the road became narrow; though it was cemented, it was rugged and uneven, surrounded by forests that rustled loudly with the night wind.
The cold moon was obscured by dark clouds, and the swaying, dance-like tree shadows looked like twisting ghostly figures from a distance.
Huo Qi’s complexion turned a few shades paler, what place was this?
Late at night, it was downright eerie…!
What do you think?
