The Bigshot's Superstar Wife

Chapter 171: Can’t Remember You

Athena sat on the cold metal chair, her wrists still bound, staring at the walls of the dimly lit room.

She ran through every detail of the man she had just met, his voice, his mannerisms, the way he looked at her with a gaze so sharp it felt like it could cut through steel.

There was something painfully familiar about him, like a song she had once loved but forgotten the lyrics to. She wanted to remember. Desperately.

But no matter how hard she tried, no name, no memory surfaced. Just an empty void where recognition should be. She was still lost in thought when the door creaked open again.

He stepped inside. Athena’s eyes locked onto his. They weren’t filled with malice, nor were they warm.

It was as if she were staring at a stone, hard, impenetrable, void of any true emotion. Yet, the way he looked at her, the intensity in his gaze, made her chest tighten involuntarily.

He exhaled, running a hand through his dark hair. "You don’t remember anything, do you?"

Athena remained silent.

The man let out a low chuckle, though there was no humor in it. He walked to the other side of the room, pacing.

"I searched the entire world for you." His voice was quiet, controlled, but there was a weight in his words. A heaviness that pressed against her.

Athena frowned. "I don’t even know you."

He stopped pacing and turned to her, his expression hardening. "You do."

She shook her head. "I don’t."

For a second, something flickered in his eyes. Hurt? Disbelief? Then, just as quickly, it was gone.

He muttered words under his breath, things Athena couldn’t quite understand. They sounded like memories, fragments of a past she couldn’t grasp.

"You used to tease me about my cold hands," he murmured, more to himself than to her. "You’d always complain when I held your hand in the winter, but you never let go."

Athena swallowed. The way he spoke, as if he had known her intimately, sent an unexplainable ache through her.

"You used to steal my clothes because you said they smelled like me."

He scoffed, shaking his head. "You were impossible, always doing what you wanted, always running ahead without looking back."

Athena remained silent, a strange tightness building in her chest.

"You promised me," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "You promised me you would never leave."

She flinched at the raw emotion in his tone.

"I didn’t..." She caught herself. She had no idea what she had or hadn’t done. She couldn’t argue about a past she didn’t remember.

His jaw clenched. "You did."

Athena inhaled sharply, frustration bubbling within her. "I have amnesia."

He scoffed, shaking his head. "That’s a convenient excuse."

"It’s the truth," she shot back, meeting his gaze. "I woke up one day with nothing, no memories, no name, nothing. I don’t even know how I got here."

He studied her, his intense gaze searching for any sign of deception. Silence filled the room, thick and suffocating. Then, finally, he spoke. "We were together."

Athena’s breath hitched.

He took a step closer, his hands clenching into fists at his sides. "You were mine."

She blinked, feeling her heart pound against her ribs.

"You left," he continued, his voice raw. "One day, you were just… gone."

Athena shook her head. "I don’t remember any of that."

His eyes darkened. "Then remember."

She let out a bitter laugh. "If it were that easy, don’t you think I would have by now?"

His jaw tightened, and for a moment, she thought he might explode with anger. But instead, he exhaled sharply, running a hand over his face as if trying to collect himself.

"I spent years looking for you."

Athena swallowed, suddenly feeling overwhelmed.

"If what you’re saying is true…" She hesitated. "Why did I leave?"

Something flickered across his face. An emotion too quick for her to decipher.

"You never told me." His voice was quieter now, softer. "You just disappeared."

Athena stared at him. If they had been together, if she had meant so much to him, why would she leave?

Unless… She glanced at him warily. "What if I had a reason?"

His body tensed.

"What if something happened to me?" she continued. "What if I didn’t leave willingly?"

He hesitated, and for the first time since their conversation began, uncertainty clouded his expression.

Athena exhaled slowly. "If I lost my memories, don’t you think that means something?"

His gaze flickered, as if warring with something inside himself.

"I don’t know what happened," she admitted, shaking her head. "But if I forgot everything, forgot you, don’t you think there’s a reason for that?"

He didn’t answer. For the first time, he looked away.

Athena studied him closely, trying to piece things together. If she had been with him, if she had meant something to him, then why did she feel… nothing?

No spark of recognition, no warmth of familiarity. Just an odd sense of something missing. She sighed, exhaustion seeping into her bones. "I don’t know you."

His eyes snapped back to her. "But I want to."

For a second, his entire body went still. Then, slowly, his expression softened, just a little.

"I don’t trust you," she added quickly, "but if you really knew me, then you’ll help me figure this out."

His jaw clenched. Then, after what felt like an eternity, he nodded.

"Fine," he murmured. "I’ll help you remember."

Athena didn’t know if that was a promise or a threat. But deep down, she had a feeling that whatever she had forgotten… It wasn’t going to be something simple.

Athena watched him carefully, searching his face for any sign of deception. He claimed to have searched for her for years, yet she felt nothing, no familiarity, no comfort.

If anything, his presence unsettled her.

"How do you plan to help me remember?" she asked, testing him.

The man studied her for a long moment before responding. "By staying by my side."

Athena narrowed her eyes. "And if I refuse?"

His expression darkened. "Then I’ll just have to make sure you don’t run away again."

A chill ran down her spine at his words. There was no anger in his tone, just pure determination.

He was a man who had lost something precious, and now that he had found it again, he wasn’t going to let go.

Athena exhaled, weighing her options. If she went with him, she might uncover the truth.

But if he was dangerous, if she had left him for a reason, then she could be walking straight into a trap. Still, she had to know.

"Fine," she said, lifting her chin. "But if I remember something that changes everything… I won’t let you force me to stay."

His lips curled into a knowing smirk. "We’ll see."
