The Birth of A Volleyball Legend

Chapter 414: The Opponent's Preparation

Meanwhile, in Kikugawa High…

"Come on, Kaito! Stop whining! You make a mess, you clean it up!" A tall guy with glasses shouted as he supervised his two kouhai's punishment. "Yusuke, keep it up! Five more laps for you!"

"This… This is… Evil!" Kaito panted heavily as he couldn't even run in a straight line anymore. This was the sixteenth lap he had been running out of the twenty laps the coach ordered him to do. "Sensei… Sensei is a psychopath!"

Yusuke didn't even have the energy to agree with that, trying his best to maintain his consciousness. The cold temperature outside couldn't even chill them down as sweat was running down their faces.

The tall boy on the sideline just snorted amusedly before saying, "Well, whose fault is it to challenge our next opponent stupidly like that? I swear I have been telling you guys to stop your shenanigan, and finally, now you face the consequence."

"Well… Who would know…. That… That… Tsunemori's coach… Will be Sensei's sensei?" Kaito retorted between his heavy breathing.

"That is why I tell you to stop your shenanigan! You don't know how or who would you insult with this stupid act, so bear the consequence!" The tall boy scolded his two kouhai again.

Yeah, for Kikugawa High, Kaito and Yusuke running rampant and challenging their next opponent in a 2v2 game was not something new for them. They all knew this could offend their next opponent and had been warning those two to stop doing that, yet the two freshmen were so stubborn like mules, not listening to their words. Now that they finally met someone they couldn't offend, everyone finally could see those two received the punishment they deserved and they couldn't help but gloat over their kouhai's misfortune.

"Suzuki-senpai, they are not over yet?" A boy who was as tall as the first boy – Suzuki – popped and asked in surprise. "How many laps left for them to run?"

"Four for Kaito and five for Yusuke. Come on, keep it up!" The boy – Suzuki raised his voice, clapping his hand and asking for the two boys to speed up. "We don't have all the time of this day, you know?!"

"Then stop being so strict and just say that we have done this already!" Kaito used all of the energy left inside his body to shout.

"No, cannot do. That would be a corruption. Do you want to form a bad habit?" Suzuki shook his head. "Also, if you still can shout, then you can still run! Come on, Kaito! Speed up!"

The second boy who just appeared could only shake his head in amusement before saying, "Junya-sensei has been waiting in the usual room. Bring them there after this, okay?"

"Sure, just go ahead, Ao." Suzuki waved his hand away.

It took both Yusuke and Kaito five more minutes before they finally finished their punishment. Right after they were done their twenty laps running around the gymnasium, they fell immediately, their chest moving up and down violently as they tried their best to keep their breath steady.

"Finally… Finally…" Kaito kept repeating that word while letting his sweat roll down the floor. As for Yusuke, the boy looked like he had just visited the death door and escaped from it. His face was pale and his shit was soaked with sweat.

Suzuki just shook his head in amusement before saying, "Have a drink, quick! After this, we will have to go to the meeting room, Sensei's order."

Kaito groaned as he received the bottle of water and said, "Can you have a little bit of mercy here?"

"Cannot do, Sensei's order," Suzuki repeated. "Come on, if you are so slow, you will receive another punishment, you know?"

That alone was enough motivation for the two freshmen to get up and follow their senpai along. They went to a small room full of people, and after nodding to the person at the front, Suzuki guided both his kouhai to the empty seats left there.

"Well, it's good for you two to finally join us here, " the person in charge, a man in his early thirties sitting at the front, said sarcastically. Kaio and Yusuke could only scratch the back of their heads sheepishly. Okay, since they are finally here, we can start our meeting."

All the people there straightened their backs immediately.

"As you can see, our playing style is so similar to Tsunemori High. We both don't have the real heavy-hitter on the team, but our offense always relies on good accuracy to trouble the opponent. We both want to make our opponents run, so the next game will be an endurance battle between two teams. I know I don't have to tell you this, but I will still say it. The next game will be your moment, so prove your worth there!"

"Yes, Sir!"

"Good." The coach nodded, satisfied. "Next, let's talk about our biggest threat. First, of course, Yuki Kobayashi." The screen on the front suddenly changed into Yuki's face, and all of the players there put their focus on it. "We all know how dangerous he is behind the service line. He is unpredictable, and his service choice is always on point. It is no use trying to figure out the pattern as he would only pick what kind of serve he would do based on the situation on the court. So, when he is on his service job, try to capitalize on every chance and force him to rotate as quickly as possible, do you understand?"

All of the Kikugawa players there nodded solemnly, knowing full well what kind of threat Yuki possessed from behind the line.

"Then, we have Riku Agostini, the setter." The coach pointed his finger at the blonde boy from Tsunemori High. "He is a creative and aggressive type of setter, always love to do something unpredictable. Just keep your eyes on him intently, and in a synchronization attack, don't let go of your guard on him. There is about a 70 percent chance he would go for a dump in that situation."

After that, they talked a lot about every Tsunemori player; from their strength, their weakness, their habit, and even the data of the most and the least probably players to receive the pass from each other. Some might say it was a bit excessive, but for Arisawa Junya, Kikugawa's head coach who learned everything from Akira, he knew that half of the match was about the intelligence battle, and he extrapolated this to an extreme level.

That was why Kikugawa High's playing style resembled Tsunemori High a lot. They both always knew where to strike the most as if they knew their opponent like the back of their hand. Now that the master and disciple were about to face each other, although Arisawa Junya didn't show it, he could feel his hand trembling in excitement.

"Well, Sensei, this is going to be our first game in history. Let me show you how much I have improved, so you better be prepared for the next game!'
