The Birth of A Volleyball Legend

Silence fell on the court as everyone stared at Yuki in disbelief. Hell, even the supporters didn't expect Yuki who had only been involved in the service game to burst into the spotlight in a style like this. However, this awkward silence only lasted for a few seconds before cheers exploded from every corner of the building.

"OH! That is what we are looking for!"

"Come on, Yuki! You show them what we are made for!"

"That is our prodigy! That is Yuki Kobayashi!"

"Come on, Yuki-nii!" Even Mai and Hana also got carried away by the atmosphere and shouted out of their lungs. After all, even though they couldn't see clearly from their spot how the play went, they knew that their brother was being praised by the entire crowd, and they wanted to join the fun too. "Win the game for us too!"

Of course, even though they shouted it out from the bottom of their hearts, in the end, their supports were drowned by the wave of cheers coming from all around them. In the end, Yuki could only grumble to show his dissatisfaction while he himself also rubbed his head bitterly. Well, of course, it wasn't that serious. He knew that his teammates were just being playful to lighten up the atmosphere here. Moreover, he also knew why they would react so violently like this. After all, just a moment ago, they had just decided that they would go back to their original defensive playing style and tried their best to frustrate their opponent first before wearing them out as time went by. They didn't expect Yuki to pull that kind of trickery out of nowhere, and fortunately, it worked perfectly this time. Meanwhile, on the other side of the net, Kaito clicked his tongue in annoyance. He knew that he was responsible for the last attack. He just didn't expect he would be fooled so easily by Yuki, something that he should've expected from the dirty rat who could only go for trickery when things went out of his control.

"Don't worry, Kaito. We will have a chance to pay it back later." Suzuki patted his shoulder reassuringly.

"Oh, don't worry, Senpai. I am not that fragile." Kaito grinned quickly, his cheerful demeanor was back. "I am just annoyed that he could get away from my defense so blatantly like this. Next time, I will never let him do that to me again!"

"Well, I believe in you." Suzuki sighed in relief when he saw his kouhai was still in this state. "Get ready for the next play. Also, don't say anything excessive. The referee has been watching you so closely like a hawk to its prey. You better pray that he wouldn't be so cruel to eject you straight away for all the troubles you created."

"Me?! I would never!" Kaito said in a false innocence, eliciting a small snort from the captain.

In the end, even though the last play from Yuki was amazing, it didn't bring any special change on the court since the two teams were still calm enough to maintain their composure. Next, the game would be continued again, and this time, it was Asahi's turn to serve while Okamura went back to the court to replace Hirano for the team's rotation.

"Come on, Asahi! Follow it up!"

"Don't mess this chance up! Go and snatch the momentum back!"

Under the cheers – and somehow the pressure – from the supporters behind him, Asahi finally launched a pretty sharp jump serve. Unfortunately, he lacked the power necessary to break through the opponent's defense, which only resulted in the ball landing on Suzuki's hand.

"Oh, yeah! Nice save, Captain!"

"Ayane-senpai!" Kaito waved his hand, having been running already as he asked for the ball.

Yuki who was on the front line also braced himself, knowing full well that he would be the boy's target next. True enough, a second later, as the ball was flying in front of Kaito's eyes, the boy had his eyes staring at Yuki intently as if he wanted to challenge the boy in a head-on confrontation. Of course, as the defender, Yuki didn't have any choice but to fight back. So, he also jumped at the same time, and when he saw Kaito's body turned slightly for a cross spike, he also moved both his hands toward his right side to protect that area.

"One touch!" Yuki yelled after noticing that his hands touched the ball.

Even though the ball flew a bit too far outside of the court, Kaede still managed to recover that, and within a second, it was already flying toward Riku, and all the Tsunemori players were also gearing up for a counterattack.

Kaito himself clicked his tongue in annoyance. He did terribly in the last attack. Usually, he would be a lot calmer and smarter than that. However, the thought of confronting Yuki head-on clouded his mind, and now he had to pay the price.

"Kaito, join me! Get ready to stop the attack!" Ao shouted from the middle.

"Yes, Sir!"

This time, Kikugawa High players showed their capability by recovering quickly from the failure of the last attack, and before Riku could launch the counterattack, they were back in their original position already.

Unfortunately for them, this wouldn't do much to help them stop Tsunemori's next attack. When they were still waiting to see where the ball would be launched next, Riku suddenly let out a small smirk, and before they noticed or even thought about his intention, the ball had already flown toward the spot where Kaito just left, and the obnoxious boy on the other side of the court widened his eyes and cursed out loud as he just realized what happened.
