Chapter 180: 180: The Revelation of Luo San’s Identity (First Update)
“Miss Fang,” she approached, “may I have a word with you?”
Fang Lixiang smiled. “Of course.” She continued to smile, now playing the role of a cultured and busy CEO, “you’ll need to make an appointment through my agent. I’m very busy.”
The implication was clear—now was not the time, Mr. Fang was too busy.
Tang Xiang looked at her with a half-smile, “You’re avoiding me so much, you must know what I’m trying to find out.”
Fox!
This was an old fox!
The opponent was too crafty; Fang Lixiang knew she was outmatched and adopted a resigned attitude, along with a feigned dumb expression. “Miss Tang, you’ve really got the wrong person. My dad is just a firefighter, he has nothing to do with it after putting out fires. You should ask the Luo family about their issues.” Who knows if you are in cahoots with the Luo family.
“Ask the Luo family,” Tang Xiang said with a smile, “are you sure?”
Fang Lixiang was stunned by that smile, and a bad feeling hit her hard.
Tang Xiang wasn’t rushing, still keeping a calm tone, “If the Luo family also finds out something, do you think you and your daughter could still live peacefully?”
Fang Lixiang realized, feeling a chill, “Are you threatening me?”
Tang Xiang shook her head, correcting her leisurely, “No, I’m making an offer of friendship.” She folded her arms and stepped forward, “I know you don’t trust me yet. I’ll just ask you one question.”
Fang Lixiang didn’t trust her, unsure if she was a human or a ghost, but one thing was certain—everyone from the Luo family was definitely a demon or ghost.
She weighed her options. “Ask.”
Tang Xiang cut to the chase, “Is Luo San a girl?”
Damn!
This person must know a lot.
Fang Lixiang hesitated between telling the truth and lying for several seconds before finally nodding, “Yes.”
Tang Xiang was a bit safer than dealing with the Luo family.
In the dressing room, Zhou Xufang was sitting, waiting; soon, Pei Ning brought the clothes and cautioned her, “Be careful, don’t tear the clothes.”
“Oh.” Zhou Xufang held the clothes gently to change, as if she were cradling the precious Jiang Zhi.
Pei Ning had just sat down when her phone rang. She answered, “Sister Qing.” She got up and walked outside the dressing room, “I’m at the film set now.”
It was her agent on the phone pushing her about a commercial endorsement.
As Pei Ning walked, she briefed her agent, “I had Xiao Jin send over the contract first—” She hadn’t finished speaking when she nearly bumped into someone at the corner, looking up, “Mr. Tang.”
Tang Xiang nodded slightly and continued walking.
Pei Ning looked back, warning, “Mr. Tang, that’s the dressing room.”
“Just having a look.” Her pace didn’t falter.
What’s there to see in a public dressing room? Pei Ning dismissed her doubt and resumed discussing the contract with her agent, “Check if there are any other issues with the contract, and I’ll come see you later.”
Creak—
The dressing room was temporarily set up and shared with the makeup room; it was quite rudimentary, and the door made a noise when opening and closing. A quick glance showed no one inside; Tang Xiang entered and walked further.
There were curtains pulled to either side as makeshift changing areas. The left curtain was drawn back, Tang Xiang walked towards the right, noticed two black sneakers on the floor, raised her hand, and reached for the curtain, just as her wrist was grabbed by a hand reaching out from behind the curtain.
Her skin was so pale it looked like it rarely saw the sun.
Behind the curtain, Zhou Xufang asked, “What are you doing?”
Tang Xiang was slightly startled, apologized, “Sorry, I thought it was empty.”
Zhou Xufang then let go of her hand.
Tang Xiang looked down at her wrist, which was red where it had been grasped; she was quite strong.
She sat down on a sofa waiting for Zhou Xufang to finish changing and come out before starting, “Do you remember me, Miss Zhou?” she reminded, “We’ve met in the porridge shop.”
Zhou Xufang nodded, dressed in the lead actress’s bright red costume, a stark contrast to her usual black attire, making her look radiant and flamboyant.
Tang Xiang seemed to make casual conversation, “Are you also from Imperial City, Miss Zhou?”
Zhou Xufang was expressionless, “No.”
Tang Xiang pondered for a moment before asking again, “Then, could you tell me where your hometown is?” she explained, “You resemble a long-lost friend of mine.”
She was fishing for information.
Zhou Xufang also considered seriously and answered, “It’s inconvenient.”
Tang Xiang merely smiled, not taking offense.
Zhou Xufang put on her shoes, packed her own clothes in a bag. “I need to go film now.” After saying this, she left first.
After she left, Tang Xiang rose from the sofa, her gaze casually lifted and landed on the right corner of the dressing room, where the curtains were rolled up; on the floor was a necklace threaded with a black thin line.
She walked over and picked up the necklace.
Zhou Xufang came out of the dressing room and had only walked a few steps when she saw Jiang Zhi leaning against the wall in the corridor, his head down as if he were daydreaming.
She ran over, “Jiang Zhi.”
He seemed not to hear her.
She reached out to tug at his sleeve, a bit louder, “Jiang Zhi.”
Jiang Zhi then came to his senses and looked up, “Hmm?”
“What are you thinking about?”
He shook his head, said nothing, and started walking her out.
Zhou Xufang felt he seemed to be troubled but didn’t want to talk about it, so she didn’t ask further, “When did you get here?”
Jiang Zhi said, “Just arrived.”
At that moment, someone outside the set called for a stand-in actor, and Zhou Xufang responded, telling Jiang Zhi, “I need to go over there first.”
“Okay.”
Zhou Xufang took another long look at Jiang Zhi before running off. He was acting so strangely, she thought. She had dressed up so beautifully, and he hadn’t even complimented her. She really looked pretty.
It was only after the shooting had started outside that Jiang Zhi took out his phone and dialed a number, speaking in hushed tones, “Help me look someone up.”
“Who?”
He said, “Fang Lixiang.”
Zhou Xufang’s stand-in scene was finished in less than twenty minutes, Fang Lixiang complimented her on her beautiful feet and even took a selfie with them. To commemorate Zhou Xufang dressing so beautifully, Fang Lixiang took many photos of her.
At four-thirty, Jiang Zhi drove her home, then left first because he had things to do. Luckily, Zhou Xufang also had matters to attend to, so once Jiang Zhi left, she changed her outfit and rode off on a motorcycle.
At eight in the evening, Tang Xiang’s car stopped outside the sanatorium.
She usually came only during the day on weekends, so the nurse, Xiao Qu, asked her, “Why have you come so late today?”
Tang Xiang lingered at the nurse station for a while, “Something came up. Is Mom asleep?”
Xiao Qu handed her the key to Ms. He’s room, “Not yet, she even had two walnut pastries just now.”
Because Ms. He’s mental state fluctuated, Tang Xiang worried she might wander off when she was not lucid. Normally, she had the nurse lock the door while she slept.
Tang Xiang took the key and went to the room.
Ms. He wasn’t asleep, just sitting on the bed, daydreaming.
“Mom.”
Ms. He was surprised to see her, “Why have you come back? Aren’t there classes?”
Ms. He was lucid occasionally, her mind still stuck eight years ago when the Luo Family hadn’t yet become famous and Tang Xiang was still at university.
Tang Xiang closed the door behind her, “Tomorrow is the weekend.”
Ms. He nodded, got up, and said she would cook for her.
Tang Xiang held her back, sat beside her on the bed, and took out a necklace from her pocket, spreading it on her palm for Ms. He to see, “Mom, I found this necklace on the road just now. Do you know whose it is?”
Ms. He immediately recognized it, “This is Luo San’s necklace.” Her expression suddenly turned tense, she looked around, muttering, “So careless, losing such an important thing.”
It really was Luo San’s.
Ms. He snatched the necklace and hid it under the pillow, anxiously instructing Tang Xiang, “Xiangxiang, don’t talk about the necklace to anyone.”
Tang Xiang glanced at the black thread peeking from under the pillow, “Understood.”
After coaxing Ms. He to sleep, Tang Xiang finally left the room.
Xiao Qu asked, “Are you going back now?”
Distracted, she replied absently and left the room key behind.
Stars filled the night sky, the night of a full moon according to the lunar calendar. The night was windy, carrying the chill of winter.
There were only three buildings in the sanatorium, two for patient rooms and one for medical treatments. Zhou Xufang was on the rooftop of the medical treatment building, clad in a sleek black outfit that blended into the night. She crouched there, pondering the conversation she had just overheard.
Through her earpiece, Shuangjiang informed her in a synthesized voice, “Surveillance has been cut.”
OK!
Zhou Xufang leapt down from the building.
She didn’t take the stairs but climbed directly to Ms. He’s window on the first floor. The room door was locked. She looked left and right, listening for footsteps nearby, then quietly twisted the doorknob with force.
The lock gave way.
Fortunately, the occupant was still asleep. Zhou Xufang blocked the door with a chair and tiptoed to the bedside. After searching, she saw the black thread under the pillow and reached for it—
Ms. He suddenly opened her eyes and called out, “Luo San.”
What do you think?
