Chapter 186: 186: The fairy Zhi is very clingy tonight (first update)

He sat in front, grabbing her hands and placing them on his waist, “Hold on tight, President Fang.”

Jiang Zhi was skilled at riding, good with any vehicle, and rode the motorcycle so smoothly that President Fang was amazed, thinking his delicate wife was super cool and awesome!

Tonight, President Fang’s delicate wife was especially clingy, following him wherever he went.

When Zhou Xufang went to pour a glass of water to drink, Jiang Zhi stayed close behind, and when she headed to the changing room, he followed there too.

“Why are you following me all the time?”

The beautiful light in Jiang Zhi’s eyes was captivating, “Because I like you.”

Zhou Xufang: “…”

Critical hit!

Jiang Zhi was a little demon, so enticing.

Zhou Xufang felt a bit feverish, but she needed to stay composed, not to be seduced, and said very seriously, “But I need to take a bath.”

The little demon gazed at her intently, ripples of allure in his eyes, “Can’t we do it together?”

Then she would certainly be seduced by him.

Zhou Xufang firmly stated, “No.” They both had to be upright and serious individuals.

Since it was a no…

Jiang Zhi went and brought a stool, placing it right outside the bathroom door and sat down, “Go ahead and bathe.”

Zhou Xufang was stunned, “Jiang Zhi, are you a little pervert?”

Jiang・Little Pervert・Zhi stretched his long legs forward, arms folded, adopting a debauched expression, looking at the young lady, “If you don’t go in, I’ll turn into a big pervert.”

Zhou Xufang: “…”

She hurried to the cloakroom to grab her clothes, then quickly slipped into the bathroom.

The bathroom had one-way glass, so Zhou Xufang could see Jiang Zhi from the inside; he was sitting at the door, and she felt so uncomfortable. She barely dared to move, washing up quietly, as if she were a thief.

Just as she started to undress, Jiang Zhi began calling out to her from outside.

“Zhou Xufang.”

She responded, “Mhm.”

Jiang Zhi called again, “Zhou Xufang.”

She continued to respond, “Mhm.”

Jiang Zhi still called, “Zhou Xufang.”

She glanced towards the door, glaring at Jiang Zhi’s beautiful skull and the back of his head, “Why do you keep calling me?”

He leaned against the door, head tilted back, legs lazily extended, his voice light and floating, “Just felt like calling.” Then he carried on calling, “Zhou Xufang.”

“Mhm.”

Persistently, one call after another.

“Zhou Xufang.”

“Mhm.” Zhou Xufang couldn’t concentrate on washing her hair anymore, “Stop calling me.”

He didn’t listen, and called again, “Zhou Xufang.”

Zhou Xufang whipped her head around, staring toward the door, “I’m ignoring you.” If he called again, she’d refuse to respond!

Jiang Zhi called out with a laugh, “Zhou Xufang.”

Zhou Xufang was so irritated by him, she thought he was so clingy tonight, like a little fox spirit wrapped around her, “Aren’t you annoying?”

He wasn’t bothered, “Zhou Xufang.”

Zhou Xufang looked down, her hair covering her face, “Zhou Xufang needs hot water now, can’t hear you talking.” After saying that, Zhou Xufang turned on the water, letting it cascade down on her, drenching her like a female water ghost.

Jiang Zhi: “Zhou Xufang.”

She couldn’t hear.

Jiang Zhi: “Zhou Xufang.”

She couldn’t hear!

Jiang Zhi suddenly twisted the doorknob, not in a playful tone, “Zhou Xufang, you didn’t close your door properly.”

Zhou Xufang shuddered in fright and hugged herself, “No coming in!”

Jiang Zhi, that little pervert, laughed triumphantly, “I thought you couldn’t hear me?”

Zhou Xufang: “…”

This fairy is too bad!

She won’t pay attention to him anymore!

“Zhou Xufang,” the fairy was saying sweet nothings, endearing little sweet nothings, “I’m really fond of you, fond to death.”

Just now, having decided not to mind the little demon anymore, Zhou Xufang bashfully responded, “I’m fond of you too~”

The little demon laughed outside.

Afterward, when Zhou Xufang had finished bathing, Jiang Zhi insisted she also sit at the bathroom door to reciprocate by ‘listening’ to him. She wasn’t sure what feelings Jiang Zhi got from it, but Zhou Xufang felt a bit hot, almost feverish.

Jiang Zhi bathed quickly.

Zhou Xufang asked him why he was so fast, and he said he needed to hurry out to dry her hair.

Zhou Xufang thought he was so considerate.

Considerate Jiang Zhi dried Zhou Xufang’s hair, carried her to bed, then lay down himself, covering them with the blanket, “What were you doing at the Luo Family’s?”

Zhou Xufang was sleeping inside, lying on her side, “To get the Luo Family’s DNA.”

The pajamas on Jiang Zhi’s body matched hers, a pink checkered pattern that made his skin look particularly white. His buttons were not properly fastened, revealing a glimpse of his collarbone.

“Did you get it?”

Zhou Xufang: “Mhm.”

Jiang Zhi could guess what she wanted to do, and he was equally suspicious of her identity. The Luo Family didn’t need a foster son nor was there a need to adopt a handicapped child. They had no choice because it was the only ‘lineage.’

“Leave the rest to me.” For revenge and such, he could handle it; he wasn’t afraid to dirty his hands.

Zhou Xufang lay on the pillow, getting sleepy, “Okay.”

Jiang Zhi moved closer, his hand around her neck, and he put on the necklace he had gotten from Tang Xiang.

Her eyes blinked, and she rubbed his hand with her face, “You’ve seen Tang Xiang?” It must have been Tang Xiang who managed to let him know the ins and outs.

He nodded, “Fang Bao.”

“Mhm.”

“I won’t let any member of the Luo Family go,” his eyes suppressed with emotion, his voice deep, “and don’t stop me when the time comes.”

When it came to Zhou Xufang, he wasn’t broad-minded; he was very petty, intent on reclaiming what was owed to her.

A life for a life, grievances must be avenged.

“Don’t stop.” She had only one request, “But could you not break the law, please?” She didn’t want Jiang Zhi to do something bad because of bad people.

“I’ll try my best.”

Just trying his best.

He couldn’t promise. If the legitimate approach proved useless, he would still use illegitimate means to get revenge.

Then she could only do her best to hold him back, to prevent him from becoming a lawbreaker; if she couldn’t hold him back… she would have to destroy the evidence.

Zhou Xufang yawned, very sleepy, “Jiang Zhi, aren’t you going to sleep hugging me?”

They each slept with their own pillow, and the distance between them could fit another person.

Jiang Zhi was lying on his pillow, holding back from moving closer, “Didn’t you say I have a bad sleeping posture?”

In his tone was a hint of grievance, which gave Zhou Xufang the illusion that she had been incredibly unfair, as if she had committed an unforgivable sin. Reflecting on it, she felt that she was a bit unreasonable, so she admitted her fault, “If you want to hug, I’ll let you hug me.”

Jiang Zhi immediately moved closer, hugged her, and shared a pillow with her, promising earnestly, “I won’t kick you tonight.”

The flag was raised too early.

In the middle of the night, there was suddenly a loud thump.

Jiang Zhi turned over, stretched out his hand, and not feeling anyone, he immediately woke up, sat up, and called out, “Fang Bao?” Sleepy and a bit whiny.

The lights in the room were off, and the lights in the bathroom were off too. He hadn’t slept enough, the corners of his eyes red, as if he could wring water out of his pupils, his hair pressed into a messy state, and his fair face had two pillow marks on it. He rubbed his bleary eyes, turned on the bedside lamp, and took a look around the room, but saw no one.

“Fang Bao?” There was no answer, and Jiang Zhi was puzzled, “Where have you gone?”

He lifted the blanket, planning to get out of bed when suddenly a hand reached up from the floor to the bed, and then a head popped up: “I’m on the floor.”

Jiang Zhi was fully awake now: “What are you doing on the floor?”

Zhou Xufang climbed up from the floor, dusting herself off: “You kicked me off.”

Jiang Zhi: “…” He tried to defend himself, “I kicked you off?”

“Yes!”

Forget it; he might as well not argue, quietly and honestly moved to the farthest side of the bed.

But what good did it do? The moment he fell asleep, he was back to his restless self.

Thanks to Jiang Zhi, Zhou Xufang woke up with a sore back and an unrefreshing feeling. After breakfast, she climbed back into bed, intending to catch some more sleep.

She ended up sleeping until noon.

With the approach of the New Year, Jiang Zhi’s work had basically come to a halt, and he didn’t go out, just cooped up here with Zhou Xufang, flipping through scripts and watching her; time flew by.

The cell phone on the coffee table rang.

Zhou Xufang answered the call: “Hello.”

It was the delivery guy: “Miss Zhou, your delivery.”

It was a meal she had ordered for noon, and now it was already one o’clock. It was raining outside, probably because of the bad weather.

“Please wait a moment.” Jiang Zhi was warming milk in the kitchen, and Zhou Xufang told him, “I’ll go down to get the delivery.”

“Put your clothes on properly.”

“Oh.”

She put on a coat and went out.

Once downstairs, the door was opened just a crack, and she poked her head out.

The delivery man was a middle-aged man in a yellow uniform who hadn’t bothered with an umbrella, and he was soaked through: “Are you Miss Zhou?”

In the bitter cold of Dibao’s winter, where speaking makes one’s breath visible like ‘white smoke’, Zhou Xufang answered: “Yes, that’s me.”

The man handed over a bag with both hands, rain dripping from his hair down his face and onto the bag: “I’m sorry; I’m late.”

Zhou Xufang extended one hand to take the delivery: “It’s okay,” she said, “Thank you.”

The man didn’t immediately leave. He stood outside in the cold, shivering, and explained, “I fell on the way here and spilled the soup. Can I just charge you separately for the soup?”

Zhou Xufang glanced at the bag; it was stained with blood, washed out by the rain.

“The soup was just to make up the order; no need for reimbursement.”

The delivery probably didn’t earn him much, yet she had ordered a very expensive soup for Jiang Zhi, likely worth a whole day’s wages for the delivery man.

He apologized profusely.

Zhou Xufang said it was fine, looking outside at the continuing rain: “Could you wait here for a moment?”

The man hesitated for a bit but then nodded.

Zhou Xufang went back upstairs and came down again shortly, holding another bag which she handed over, saying, “It’s raining.”

Inside the bag was an umbrella.

The man took the bag, peering inside to see some medicine as well: “Thank you.”

“No need.”

Zhou Xufang closed the door.

Downstairs, the man stood still, lost in thought for a moment, then took out the umbrella, opened it, and held the handle, whose palm was cut in several places, the wounds turning inside out, swollen and seeping beads of blood.

The phone in his pocket rang.

Checking the caller, he smiled as he answered: “What’s up, Lixiang?”

The voice on the phone was childlike and milky: “Dad, have you had lunch yet?”

“I have.”

He hadn’t eaten yet, and there were still two deliveries to make.

The child was four or five years old, very sensible and well-behaved: “Mom said it’s raining, and she told you to buy an umbrella, not to be stingy with your money.”

“Mm, got it.”

The man’s eyes stung as he held a black umbrella, his steps a bit unsteady, walking farther and farther into the misty rain…

After closing the door, Zhou Xufang turned around to see Jiang Zhi. He had come down wearing only a black sweater, leaning on the stair railing, looking at her.

Zhou Xufang approached: “Why did you come down, too?”

He didn’t answer but shot back with his own question: “Aren’t you resentful?”

“Hm?”

It came out of the blue and Zhou Xufang didn’t understand what he was referring to.

The staircase was fitted with a voice-activated light that dimmed then brightened again. Jiang Zhi walked up to her: “The world has treated you like this, don’t you harbor any resentment?”

This girl’s heart was too kind.

He felt it was even more unfair; the world owed her so much. Why should she be kind to others when so few were kind to her? Why should she be good to people?

He also knew his thoughts were perverted and twisted because he was filled with indignation.

Zhou Xufang understood what he meant and countered: “How has it treated me?”

Jiang Zhi clenched his back teeth with a dark look in his eyes: “Not well at all, you’ve had to endure all kinds of suffering.”

She wasn’t resentful.

He was. He resented the Luo Family, the Jiang Family, those relevant and irrelevant people, and even the rotten world and the blind heavens.

He burned with rage, whereas she still smiled: “No, there is some good.” She reached out to hold his hand, “Aren’t you very nice?”

She actually felt that the world hadn’t been too bad to her.

To her, one Jiang Zhi was worth the whole world.

Jiang Zhi grabbed her hand and poked her face, then bent down to kiss the spot, yet he was still not quite mollified: “You’re too kind, too content. If I were you and were treated like this, I would do everything in my power to destroy this world in mutual destruction.”

Only if you can win should you fight.

If you can’t win, then it was time for a relentless struggle.

He was that petty—if anyone disrupted his life, he would dig three feet into their territory. Accept fate? He’d never accept it in this lifetime.

If he were Zhou Xufang, he figured he’d become twisted mentally, maybe even antisocial.

Although such a hypothesis would never be true, Zhou Xufang still pondered it seriously and then replied: “Then I would definitely stop you.” She led Jiang Zhi upstairs, his hands were cold because he was lightly dressed, “Don’t you think this world is bad? Then it’s not worth destroying yourself over it.”

She held on to his hand, warming it against her neck: “And then, I’d try even harder to make the world a little better, so you wouldn’t want to destroy yourself along with it.”

Her heart was truly kind.

In this world, how many people could go through such hardships and still keep a pure heart?

Jiang Zhi rubbed her head: “So silly.”

His girl was a little fool.

Zhou Xufang shook her head: “I’m not silly.”

Jiang Zhi didn’t argue with her and led his little fool back home.

After lunch and a brief rest, Zhou Xufang received a call from Fang Lixiang.

“Xu Fang.”

“Mm.”

The conversations were not like before; even without saying much, they felt very heavy.

Fang Lixiang hesitated: “Can we meet later?”

“Okay,” Zhou Xufang answered, “Can I bring Jiang Zhi with me?” Jiang Zhi had told her about her identity; aside from Tang Xiang, Fang Lixiang and her father were also aware of it.

Fang Lixiang said: “Yes.” She added, “I’ll also bring someone with me.”
