Chapter 46: 046: Can I shower at your place? (Chapter 1)

A thunderclap echoed through the night.

After a loud thunderclap, torrential rain came pouring down.

Zhou Xufang hid the porridge she was carrying inside her coat and ran across the street, tugging at her hat. The sudden downpour urged pedestrians to scatter.

The night was chilly and the rain wrapped everything in a misty haze. Through the thick veil of water vapor, Zhou Xufang saw a black umbrella. A figure stood under it, backlit, under a tree. The rain splashed up, wetting his white sneakers. Looking up, she saw a pair of beige casual pants, then a pair of long, slender hands holding the umbrella, the fingers delicate and very pale, save for the neatly trimmed nails which glowed with a hue of pink.

Zhou Xufang recognized those hands.

She ran a little faster: “Jiang Zhi.”

The umbrella lifted slightly and she saw his face.

The normally curved line of his lips straightened when he saw her, “It’s pouring rain, you don’t know to use an umbrella?”

Beneath the umbrella, the beautiful man looked at her with anger in his eyes, his brows furrowed. His rain-soaked eyes stared at her.

Jiang Zhi even looked good when he was angry.

Zhou Xufang wiped the rain from her face, “It wasn’t raining when I left.”

Wearing a stern expression, he stepped out from under the tree, seemingly wanting to grab her arm but hesitating. Instead, he reached up and grabbed the drawstring of her hoodie, pulling her under the umbrella, “You’re completely soaked.” He pushed the umbrella slightly toward her, “Are you cold?”

Zhou Xufang looked down at Jiang Zhi’s sneakers, now mud-stained. Fang Lixiang had said Jiang Zhi came from a wealthy family, he was delicate and insisted on formality.

She stepped onto the clean flagstones nearby, replying, “Cold.”

Jiang Zhi followed her, moving from the muddy grass to the clean flagstones. His umbrella was large, but the little girl standing under it was far off to the side, trying to make herself small. She was soaked, her wet eyes avoiding his gaze.

Whether it was from washing or the rain, the dye in her hair from earlier that day had faded, and her wet hair clung to her head like a quail caught in the rain.

“Take it.”

He shoved the umbrella into her hand, bent over to match her height, and took off his coat, draping it over her shoulders. The series of actions was swift and not particularly gentle, even somewhat clumsy. His expression was hardly friendly, resembling some pampered and delicate creature that needed constant comforting.

Zhou Xufang stood there holding the umbrella, since she was significantly shorter, she had to stand on tiptoe to hold it over his head, shielding him from the wind and rain. Her other hand held the porridge hidden in her coat. She was cold all over, except for the warmth in her left chest where the porridge was.

She looked up, raindrops falling from her eyelashes.

She said, “I’m still very cold.”

For once, she was so obedient and gentle.

Jiang Zhi hesitated, wondering if he should warm her hands.

But she asked him, “Can I use your place to take a shower?” Her voice was low and cautious, her face upturned, eyes like black gemstones full of hope, looking at him with anticipation.

Jiang Zhi was momentarily taken aback by her gaze, swallowing a huge gulp of cold air, which chilled him down to his throat.

“Cough cough cough cough cough…”

Damn it.

He bent over, coughing so hard that his peach blossom eyes were filled with bloodshot lines.

Zhou Xufang, seeing him this weak, hurried to take off the coat to return it to him. The movement caused the umbrella to tilt, letting a large amount of rain pour onto her head.

His hands, now wet and red from the cold, steadied the umbrella, pulling her and the coat closer, “Wear it properly.”

Take a shower?

Who taught her this, she must have picked up some bad habits, what if she dared to be this reckless with someone else…

Jiang Zhi choked with anger, coughed a couple of times, still feeling unwell, but slowly tilted the umbrella more toward her.

The rain quickly soaked his sweater, which was black, making his face look especially pale. Zhou Xufang worried that he might faint from the wind, so she stopped dawdling, “If not, I’ll leave.” She took the porridge from her coat and hung it on the umbrella handle, “Eat the porridge while it’s hot.”

After reminding him, she moved to step out from under the umbrella.

Jiang Zhi grabbed her hood, not letting her leave, “I didn’t say you couldn’t.” He pulled her back under the umbrella, “Move closer, you’re getting soaked.”

His tone indicated a bit of anger.@@novelbin@@
