Chapter 136
The Tide Turns
Thanks to Hyesung’s brave decision to gather evidence on his own, the case quickly gained momentum.
After reviewing the evidence Hyesung had retrieved from within Yushinpa, Lee Hyuk contacted someone immediately. The person on the other end was a prosecutor from the Seoul District Prosecutor’s Office, who had been investigating corruption at Daehyun Construction. Lee Hyuk had interacted with this prosecutor a few times before, especially during the intense rivalry between Daehyun and Taesung over the redevelopment project in Haeinsi. The prosecutor had first reached out to Lee Hyuk, noticing the negative, slanderous articles that Daehyun had been spreading about Taesung.
Recalling this connection, Lee Hyuk handed the evidence directly to the prosecutor.
Given the uncertainty about how many police officers might have been bribed by Daehyun, it was a wise choice to bypass the police and go straight to the prosecution.
While Daehyun quickly dismissed the recording Hyesung had spread online as false, the prosecutor’s office began a formal investigation based on the evidence, leading to a massive public outcry.
As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that Jung Se-jin, a director at Daehyun and considered a potential successor to the company, had been involved in long-standing corrupt dealings with gangsters, including Yushinpa. The scandal didn’t stop there—numerous high-profile figures in politics and business were also implicated. The public soon began referring to it as the “Daehyun Gate.”
What started as an investigation into Daehyun’s ties with Yushinpa quickly exposed a wide range of other crimes, all now brought to the surface.
[News Broadcast]: "In addition, it has come to light that the recent assault on CEO Lee Hyuk was orchestrated by Daehyun’s Director Jung Se-jin, causing a major uproar. Speculation is growing that this was an attempt by Daehyun to completely bury their rival, Taesung Construction, which had dethroned Daehyun as the top company in the construction industry…"
Hyesung turned off the TV with the remote that lay on his bed. These days, every news broadcast seemed to be filled with stories about Daehyun and Jung Se-jin.
At least the good news was that Taesung had cleared its name, and the public’s focus had shifted entirely to the unfolding scandal.@@novelbin@@
