Jano Ek’s heart was tormented by a sense of urgency.

He wanted to escape. That was what he was thinking now. However, now that he was holed up in the conference room on the third floor, that option was no longer available. If he were in the office on the first floor, he might still have had the option to break a window and escape. However, beneath the windows of the conference room, Yuri Hou’s soldiers were watching closely, waiting to stab anyone who jumped down and crawled on the ground.

How did it come to this?

Before entering the main estate of the Ek Household, he had planned to use this place as a base to retaliate and win. However, the gate was easily breached, and that plan was lost. He felt he should have thought about it a little more before going up to the second floor.

However, Jano Ek was not good at thinking in those kinds of situations. Even when it was a moment to be calm, he acted impulsively. Almost a hundred soldiers had gathered in the conference room. The heavy door made of thick oak would not be easily broken, and they stood ready with spears, waiting to skewer anyone who broke in. However, the assault never came. There were no sounds of anyone trying to break down the door.

About thirty minutes must have passed like that. Because there was so little movement, he began to think about unlocking the door and checking outside. It might be that no one was even there.

*Thud*

“Ouch!” (Jano Ek)

Next to Jano Ek, such a sound rang out. Looking over, he saw a metal helmet lying on the floor. It was an old family heirloom helmet that should have been in the armory. It covered the entire head, but it was too heavy, making it difficult to see in front when worn.

The metal helmet was wrapped tightly in wire. White smoke was billowing out from inside.

*Thud, thud*

From other windows, similar helmets were thrown in one after another.

A blinding flash of light, and at the same time, a deafening sound and shockwave assaulted him. A moment later, he heard the sound of gunpowder exploding from the direction of the door. The conference room was filled with thick white smoke that smelled distinctive. Until it cleared, Jano Ek could do nothing.

Finally, when the smoke began to thin and he could see the floor, what he found was the face of a fellow soldier. A large piece of iron, torn apart, was embedded in his face. He was dead, with an expression that showed he could not understand what had just happened to him.

“You’re lucky.” (Yuri)

He heard a familiar voice from behind him.

He tried to stand up in a hurry but was kicked down.

Lying on his back, with his chest pinned down, he looked up at the face.

Even with his nose covered with cloth, he recognized him just by his eyes. Those eyes looked at him with contempt and disdain. Even when this man pretended to be polite on the surface, he always had that look.

It was Yuri Hou.

“Just like you, a cowardly trick. It reveals your origins.” (Jano)

Even as he mocked him, Yuri Hou’s eyes did not change. They did not show anger, just continued to look at him.

“Thank you. It helps to hear you say that.” (Yuri)

“Are you out of your mind?” (Jano)

“—While preparing this trap, I was thinking about how to use you. I hesitated a bit because I thought it was too cruel to do to a human, but… your words just now have saved me. Now, it seems I can do it without feeling anything.” (Yuri)

This guy intends to do something to me.

“Just kill me already! Can’t you even do that?” (Jano)

“I said you were lucky just now, right? You seem to have misunderstood, but I wasn’t talking about you. I was talking about that man over there.” (Yuri)

Yuri Hou said, pointing to the man with the iron embedded in his face.

“The explosion and a moment of intense pain. This man was lucky to die with just that. Soon, you will wish you had died here.” (Yuri)

Jano Ek instinctively tried to bite his tongue. However, while he was gathering the resolve to do so, Yuri Hou’s foot moved.

“Well then, goodbye.” (Yuri)

He kicked Jano Ek’s head with all his might, and Jano Ek lost consciousness.

When he woke up, he was wrapped tightly in blankets and being jostled in a wagon.

He felt a dull pain in his back.

“Are you awake?” (Knight)

A knight, who had been watching the scenery from the back of the uncovered wagon, noticed him.

The knight looked at Jano Ek with eyes filled with hatred.

“Where to?” (Jano)

“To the territory ruled by the Rube Household. There, I will release you.” (Knight)

He had anticipated the question and preemptively answered. It seemed he was being taken to the Rube Household. It might mean a prisoner exchange had been established.

“I have stitched up the wound on your back. Don’t twist your body too much. Don’t talk. Just do nothing and let yourself be jostled.” (Knight)

A heat surged in Jano Ek’s head.

“Who do you think you’re talking to?” (Jano)

The moment he said that, before he could finish, the man leaned forward from his seat.

A fist came crashing down on Jano Ek’s face.

A strong impact. Sparks scattered in his vision, followed by a surge of intense pain.

“Shut up. His Excellency Yuri said I could hit you as long as you don’t die. Even if you do die, there will be no punishment.” (Knight)

The knight sat back down in his seat.

“My sister worked for the Hou Company as an active reader after the academy was destroyed. She was completely innocent. Yet, she was caught up in your foolish rebellion, brutally treated, and killed. You did not punish the vassals of the Boff Household who did that, did you? What lord turns a blind eye to their own territory’s citizens being plundered? Claiming to be a knight is quite presumptuous.” (Knight)

“What—” (Jano)

As Jano Ek tried to open his mouth, another iron fist flew toward him.

“I told you to shut up. No, you can speak. That gives me an excuse to hit you.” (Knight)

After enduring four hellish days like this, Jano Ek was finally released, likely in a location near the front lines.

He sensed a large cloth was placed over him, and felt the knight jump from the moving wagon. Then, it seemed the wagon crashed into some building, and Jano Ek rolled off the overturned cargo bed.

People rushed over, and after revealing his identity, Jano Ek was finally freed from the blanket.

Jano Ek was sent to the Sibyaku royal castle and met with Liao Rube. The location was, for some reason, the prime minister’s office, where Myaro Gudanvier was under house arrest. They should just kill him quickly, yet they were still keeping him alive. It seemed the Witches who once resided in the royal castle were still working there, and this man was being too lenient in all his methods.

“This man shall be returned to you, for it is not proper to kill a dead person twice.” (Liao)

Liao Rube read aloud. It was the wording written on a piece of cloth sewn onto Jano Ek’s clothing.

“If there is even a single injury on our great prime minister, all of you shall become dead men.” (Liao)

Liao Rube glanced briefly at the Witch.

He was smiling as if finding it amusing.

“Jano-san, how is your health?” (Myaro)

“I was tied up and beaten unilaterally.” (Jano Ek)

There was no way anyone could resist. Even a master of fistfighting would have no means to do anything.

“That doesn’t answer the question… If I may infer, are you suggesting that your poor health is due to the injuries from the beatings?” (Myaro)

“…I suppose.” (Jano Ek)

Why should he have to discuss such intimate matters with a witch? He felt indignant, but inwardly realized he had not urinated even once. But what problem was there in that? If he could avoid it, it was better not to urinate. If he no longer had to, it was merely one less annoyance in life.

“I’m sorry, but your decline in health will not improve from now on. You will surely die in the near future.” (Myaro)

“What—” (Jano)

That couldn’t be true.

“Stop talking nonsense, Witch. I am alive, and there is nothing wrong with my body. A person who can walk and climb stairs cannot die today or tomorrow.” (Jano)

“I cannot see your face well due to the bruises, but it is evident just from looking at your hands. They appear quite swollen.” (Myaro)

Jano Ek looked at his hands. They should have been thin and bony, but they seemed to have swelled up. He hadn’t noticed due to the many painful areas focused on his face.

“You bastard! What have you done to my body?!” (Jano)

As Jano Ek stood up, shouting, Liao Rube added casually.

“It’s simple. Your kidneys have been removed. Both of them.” (Liao)

“I didn’t do it, though.” (Myaro)

Myaro Gudanvier added as if to clarify.

“The blood circulating throughout your body now contains a considerable amount of urea, which should have been removed by your kidneys over the past few days. There is no way to eliminate it now. While you may not currently have clear symptoms, it will gradually begin to torment you, and it will worsen continuously. And it will inevitably lead to your death.” (Myaro)

He was speechless, unable to close his mouth.

I’m going to die?

As confusion set in for the first time in his life, Myaro Gudanvier smiled, forming a cruel grin that resembled a crescent moon.

“No, it was incorrect to say you will die. You have already become a living corpse. You are a corpse that has been executed by Yuri Hou, yet you still walk as a living dead.” (Myaro)

The moment he heard that, a fiery rage surged through his body as if lava was poured into his brain.

When he kicked the sofa and lunged at Myaro Gudanvier, someone grabbed his clothes and threw him around.

He crashed hard against the door,

“Hey, guard!” (Liao)

Liao Rube, who had done that, called for the guards. The door opened,

“Capture that man over there!” (Liao)

Before Jano Ek could stand and approach the Witch, he was seized by the guards.

“I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you all!!” (Jano)

As Jano Ek was held tightly, Myaro Gudanvier approached him.

He was ready to bite at any moment. As he braced himself, he felt his eyes were covered from afar. Then, in his ear, she whispered,

“There’s only one way to save yourself. You must transplant a kidney from a male of the same status as you. You won’t die if you remove one kidney. You could try asking around to see if someone would be willing to lend you one.” (Myaro)

“What are you talking about, Myaro?” (Jano)

“Just health tips. If you want to live long, it’s best to limit your water intake, you know.” (Myaro)

“Why do you need to hide that content—” (Jano)

Before he could hear the end of their conversation, Jano Ek was taken away.
