Chapter 19 – Is the Villain of the Blood Sea a master at building the foundation?
Escape!
A bone-chilling cold enveloped Brandon Jiang's entire body!
He couldn't muster even the slightest bit of resistance, leaving him with only one thought: to run.
Before his mind could make a decision, his body had already moved.
All the spiritual power in his dantian erupted, spreading throughout his limbs and bones, causing his strength to surge and his legs to become incredibly powerful.
He took a step and frantically fled!
The scenery around him blurred as it rushed past. Brandon didn't know how fast he was running and didn't dare to look back.
He only knew that in the blink of an eye, he had reached the front of a room belonging to a senior sister with considerable cultivation!
Brandon hurriedly banged on the door, shouting for help:
"Senior Sister, save me! Senior Sister, save me!!!"
In the next moment, a slightly annoyed voice sounded:

"What's all this noise? Disturbing my peaceful sleep!"
Immediately, a powerful aura emanated from the house, pressing heavily on Brandon's heart.
But instead of feeling uncomfortable, Brandon felt an immense sense of relief.
This senior sister's aura far surpassed that of the three immortals who had overseen the entrance assessment, even exceeding Jessica Yu's.
Being near her was much safer than before.
A drowsy woman in a white robe stepped out of the house, her pretty face cold as she stared at Brandon with displeasure:
"What is it?"
"Jessica Yu was killed! I'm her neighbor, I saw it. A demon named Villain of the Blood Sea wore her skin and infiltrated our Heavenly Lotus Sect!"
Brandon quickly explained the situation and then pleaded:
"Please, Senior Sister, eliminate the demon and uphold justice for Jessica Yu!"
Upon hearing this, the female cultivator's expression immediately turned serious.
"What did you say? Are you sure you didn't see it wrong?!"
Brandon quickly replied:
"I'm sure, I saw it very clearly!"
The female cultivator's expression shifted, and she pondered:
"Junior Sister Yu had the cultivation of the sixth level of Qi Refining. If something really happened to her, the demon that infiltrated Green Leaf Peak must be formidable..."
She immediately took out a jade talisman-like communication device and summoned the other disciples of Green Leaf Peak.
Before long, several female cultivators with similar cultivation levels to Jessica Yu arrived. They discussed briefly and then headed towards Jessica Yu's residence.
Brandon followed closely behind the female cultivators to avoid being left alone.
They soon arrived at Jessica Yu's residence. After knocking on the door and receiving no response, they broke in directly.
Brandon followed the female cultivators inside, searching around until they reached the dressing table that Brandon had pointed out.
But the lights were already out, and the room was empty.
Jessica Yu, or rather the Villain of the Blood Sea, was gone!
This sent chills down Brandon's spine. An enemy hiding in the shadows was far more terrifying than one out in the open.
Where had the Villain of the Blood Sea gone during the time he was fleeing?
Could he already be hiding in Brandon's own residence, waiting to devour him alive when he returned?
While Brandon's mind was in turmoil, the female cultivators completed their analysis.
The lead female cultivator, whom Brandon had initially sought out, said in a deep voice:
"It seems Junior Sister Yu really is in trouble. All her valuable items are still here, indicating that the incident happened suddenly and she had no time to react."
She glanced at Brandon and said:
"This junior sister claims to have seen the Villain of the Blood Sea's face under Junior Sister Yu's skin. What do you all think?"
The female cultivators frowned upon hearing this.
"Does that mean Junior Sister Yu was replaced by an evil cultivator long ago?"
"Impossible. I attended class with Junior Sister Yu just yesterday. Her personality, memory, and even knowledge showed no changes."
"I know the Villain of the Blood Sea. He's an evil cultivator at the fourth level of Qi Refining, usually only capable of petty theft."
"In my opinion, ten Villains of the Blood Sea wouldn't be a match for Junior Sister Yu, let alone completely replace her and evade the scrutiny of everyone in the Heavenly Lotus Sect."
The lead female cultivator was surprised:
"So the Villain of the Blood Sea is only at the fourth level of Qi Refining. It seems it wasn't him, but some other reason."
Another female cultivator's body glowed with a celestial light, as if sensing something, and said:@@novelbin@@
"There is a lingering scent of blood in front of this dressing table, and Junior Sister Yu's aura abruptly ends here. She never left this room."
She said gravely:
"This situation suggests that Junior Sister Yu was drained of her power and fortune by a strong cultivator right here!"
"Otherwise, her aura wouldn't have disappeared so completely."
The female cultivators were instantly both shocked and furious:
"Drained! And inside the Heavenly Lotus Sect, in Junior Sister Yu's own room?!"
"Who would dare to be so audacious!"
This was no small matter. If the culprit wasn't found quickly, today it was Jessica Yu, and tomorrow it could be them!
The female cultivators were about to conduct a thorough investigation when the lead female cultivator, lost in thought, stopped them.
She said in a deep voice:
"Inform all of Green Leaf Peak about this, and have the junior sisters be extra cautious."
"As for the rest, let the Enforcement Hall handle it."
With that, she took out a communication jade talisman and reported the incident to the Enforcement Hall.
One of the female cultivators was puzzled:
"Senior Sister, this matter poses a great threat to Green Leaf Peak. Are we really just going to leave it like this?"
The lead female cultivator, full of hidden meaning, hinted:
"The culprit hasn't been identified, and we don't know who they are."
"If it's an external enemy, that's one thing. But if we find out it's someone we shouldn't be investigating, it will only bring trouble for us."
After hearing this, some were puzzled, while others suddenly understood, but none dared to say more and quickly left.
Only Brandon was left standing there.
After a moment of confusion, Brandon quickly realized.
The lead senior sister suspected that the killer was one of their own. If a sect elder had a moment of weakness and drained Jessica Yu, and they investigated and found out it was that elder, offending them would be a death sentence.
So, she thought it best to leave the matter to the Enforcement Hall.
Brandon could understand this line of thinking, but he feared the senior sister might be wrong.
After a brief hesitation, he gritted his teeth and chased after the lead senior sister, who had already walked some distance away, and asked:
"Senior Sister, are you sure it wasn't the Villain of the Blood Sea? I really didn't see it wrong!"
The lead senior sister didn't blame Brandon for stopping her and calmly explained:
"To kill Junior Sister Yu and drain her without anyone noticing, the perpetrator's cultivation must be at least at the Foundation Establishment Stage. Do you think the Villain of the Blood Sea has that kind of power?"
Brandon shook his head.
"Then that's settled."
The lead senior sister finished speaking and left without saying more.
Brandon was bewildered.
Could he really have seen it wrong?
Or was the Villain of the Blood Sea actually a Foundation Establishment expert?
But he had seen with his own eyes the Villain of the Blood Sea being chased around like a dog by the fairies of the Heavenly Lotus Sect. Could someone like that be a Foundation Establishment expert?
When all other possibilities are eliminated, the only remaining possibility is that he saw it wrong.
But did he really see it wrong?
Was the Villain of the Blood Sea really dead?
A gust of cold wind blew, and Brandon shivered.
He didn't dare go home and quickly headed to Chu Jun's residence for protection.
In Chu Jun's room, Brandon told her about seeing the Villain of the Blood Sea, hoping to hear the opinion of this senior at the peak of Qi Refining.
Chu Jun pondered for a long time before saying:
"I think the same as the other junior sisters. Junior Sister Yu was killed by a strong cultivator at the Foundation Establishment Stage or above, and it has nothing to do with the Villain of the Blood Sea at the fourth level of Qi Refining."
"Brandon, you might have seen the Villain of the Blood Sea because the pressure from being enslaved by him caused you too much stress, leading to hallucinations when you saw the terrifying scene of Junior Sister Yu being devoured."
"Other than that, I can't think of any other explanation."
After listening, Brandon, though not convinced that what he saw was a hallucination, could only reluctantly accept this explanation.
He didn't disturb Chu Jun any further and sat cross-legged to rest.
But suddenly, a terrifying thought crossed Brandon's mind.
What if what he saw wasn't a hallucination, but real?
He had already reached the first level of Qi Refining. Why would he have hallucinations just because of a bit of psychological shadow?
Could it be that what he saw was an illusion cast by a powerful being? But why would such a being go to such lengths for someone as insignificant as him? Wouldn't it be easier to just devour him too?
If the Villain of the Blood Sea really replaced Jessica Yu, then what he saw was more reasonable!
Following this line of thought, how could the Villain of the Blood Sea avoid detection in the Heavenly Lotus Sect, filled with experts?
Perhaps, as long as he didn't remove the skin of the person he replaced, no one would ever notice, and everything would seem the same as before, even to the closest people.
Only this way could he evade all scrutiny until Brandon accidentally discovered him.
It was even possible that the Villain of the Blood Sea wasn't the real body, but just one of the many identities the real culprit had replaced.
In that case, the real culprit's power wouldn't be limited to the fourth level of Qi Refining.
Foundation Establishment or higher was entirely possible.
The more Brandon thought about it, the more it made sense, and the more terrified he became.
A thought uncontrollably surfaced in his mind.
If that mysterious being's power was indeed terrifying, could he really escape?
What if, the moment he saw the other person, he had already been replaced?
What if he was already just a skin, and the person underneath was no longer him?
Brandon was so frightened by his own thoughts that he felt weak all over.
He trembled as he reached out his hands to touch the back of his head.
If he had indeed been possessed, would there be an opening at the back of his head, and would his entire skin come off with a pull?
What do you think?
