Chapter 129: First Battle against the Demon Cult (4)
The defeat of the two Apostles bought Amon some time. Initially, he believed that the combined powers of the Hero and the Saintess would be sufficient to defeat or, at the very least, immobilise the twins. But the reality was far from kind.
Dante and Damien were Apostles of the Demon Cult, the foremost fighters that terrorised Hyades in the future. There was no way they would be defeated that easily.
A dark, malevolent mist surrounded the two Apostles, pulling them toward one another with an almost inevitable force. Amon tried to prevent their union, but the demonic fog was too dense to control. The growing miasma reminded him of the countless Greater Demons he had once battled—and worse, it filled his soul with an overwhelming terror. There was no mistaking it now: the Twin Brutes were being graced with the Demon King’s blessing, and there was nothing Amon could do to stop it.
"This is the first time… someone other than Samael has forced us into this state."
Their bodies merged, creating a rich violet hue rather than their usual blue or purple. Their size doubled, and their singular body now flashed two heads. A thick, barbed tail emerged from their backs while hooked horns covered their entire body. There was no questioning; at that moment, Dante and Damien had renounced their humanity and turned into full Demons.
The overwhelming presence of the Demonic Twins had overshadowed the Holy Power that Ascalon and the Saintess provided, creating a figure of terror. The demonic energy in the chamber became so suffocating that even the seasoned Horus felt his arms tingle.
He’d never faced a Demon of this calibre in all his life. So he could only imagine the fear the other younguns were facing.
Sure enough… Lydia and Johann were suffering. They held their chests while desperately trying to withstand the heavy pressure of the monster. Vekka had already fainted, so perhaps there was a silver lining for the weak resistance member. Leon and Ellahan fared slightly better as they were filled to the brim with Holy Power and could resist the heavy demonic pressure the twins emitted.
But shockingly, Amon and Yue remained unaffected.
Their faces were stone cold, but other than that, they remained standing upright, ready to continue the fight for another day. Amon held Nyx in a reverse grip while Yue bravely stood forward with her summons. Rather than wallow in fear and anguish, they sought the best solution to neutralise their formidable foe.
"They’re linked to the Demon Realm."
"Means they will have infinite mana."
"We’ll need to end it fast. We’ll lose in a battle of attrition."
Aside from the Demon Cult, no one knew the Twin Brutes better than Amon and Yue. They had gone over countless scenarios of confronting the Apostles, analysing their strengths and weaknesses meticulously, preparing for the moment when they would inevitably face them in battle.
The Twin Brutes had hyper-regeneration, and due to their unique gospel, they were practically immortal. No matter how many times Amon sliced and diced them, they would come back again with more mana than ever before. However, they had one fatal flaw. Once they reverted to their conjoined state, they would become mortal again, giving them a perfect chance to kill the menacing and troublesome Apostles of Vengeance.
"I’ll create an opening, make sure Leon…"
Amon was calmly relaying orders, but his words were cut short. The moment he realised something was amiss, it was far too late. The massive twin-headed Demon disappeared from his sight, and its body reappeared before the young hero’s face.
Damien and Dante’s sudden burst in speed came as a surprise to everyone. One moment, the demonic brothers were on the ground, writhing in pain. The next, their fist steadily approached Leon, ready for the kill. And as talented as Leon was, he stood no chance against the descending fist of the mighty Apostles who had merged their bodies.
"Shit!"
Just before the fist could strike the blonde youth’s flawless face, Horus lunged in front of him, absorbing the full impact. However, the sheer force of the Demon’s punch was beyond anything Horus had ever experienced. The blow sent him hurtling into Leon, and together, they were flung backwards. "LEON!!!"
Ellahan was the first to react. She ran forward, fearing the worst and dropped to her knees beside the fallen Leon. As the Saintess, she was adept in using Holy Power to heal even the worst injuries, but even Holy Power had its limits. If Leon was too far gone, nothing in her arsenal could revive the dead.
Fortunately, as she tapped on the young Knight’s shoulder, he groaned in agony while desperately trying to maintain his lucidity.
"E-Ella…"
"Don’t speak! I’ll heal you now!"
"S-Sir Horus…"
"Yes, I’ll heal you both!!!"
Ellahan kept her lover silent, preventing him from saying more than he should. As she channelled Holy Power into the two fallen warriors, the Saintess was stunned by the severity of their injuries. Leon had multiple fractured ribs and internal bleeding. Worse yet, every muscle in his body was torn. The only silver lining was that his organs had been spared, sustaining only minor bruising.
The same could not be said for the mighty Knight of the Morning Star. Horus was gravely wounded—most of his bones were fractured, and he had completely lost consciousness. Shattered bones had punctured multiple organs, and without immediate intervention, he would succumb to his injuries within minutes.
These two mighty Knights were reduced to such a state from one punch…
’How strong is that thing?!’
Ellahan created a healing sanctuary while Yue moved to cover her. A sturdy barrier was constructed while Yue’s Monarch Spirit Qilin stood ground. They protected the pair while Amon confronted the combined force of the Apostles head-on.
However, contrary to their expectations, the twins ignored Amon entirely and charged at the downed Leon. Pure demonic energy coated their fists as they went in for the kill, and it was only because of Yue’s impregnable barrier that the fist was diverted entirely. Taking advantage of their momentary lapse, Amon rushed in with Nyx and slashed off the Demon’s arm.
"You…"
Amon was confused. As the Apostles of Vengeance, Dante and Damien were known to be at the mercy of their emotions. If anyone wronged them, they would do anything to eliminate the person, even if there was a more significant threat nearby. Yet, they ignored Amon and went straight for Leon instead.
’Have they gained further mastery over the Gospel of Vengeance? Is this another deviation?’
Amon couldn’t help but wonder. The Dante and Damien he knew were brutes who lived day-by-day through their emotions. For them to make such a change…
"Again, you are the problem…"
The two heads growled in synchronisation, their voices menacing and resonant. If looks could kill, their red eyes would have torn Amon to shreds a thousand times over. Yet, they didn’t act on their impulse. As if their original wrath had been dissipated, the twins looked over Amon and right at the blonde, who was busy getting treated. Or, more specifically, the blade by his side.
"Ascalon… The greatest threat to our cult’s existence. Orders from the Prophet is to kill the wielder."
"Bastard!!!"
"Move aside; we will deal with you later."
"Die, you asshole! I will make sure to kill you myself!"
The two heads spoke different words occasionally, showing the disconnect between Dante and Damien. Dante wished to follow their Prophet’s orders, while Damien wanted to kill Amon before eliminating Leon. As Amon watched the schizophrenic episode that the twins displayed, a flash of understanding pivoted through his mind.
’The Prophet must be watching them… So, he’s suppressing the power of their Gospel and overwriting it with his orders.’
The Prophet’s orders took precedence over all the Gospels. If the Twin Brutes were ever to lose control, the Prophet could directly intervene and change the tapestry of their abilities to fit his needs. At the same time, Amon could tell that the twins were actively resisting their orders as their ’vengeance’ had yet to be fulfilled.
That disconnect was what allowed Amon to strike.
’I will need to move them away from Leon first.’
Six Suns orbited around Amon as the power of the Golden Dragon Progenitor took form. The weaker minds could only see a rough silhouette embracing Amon from behind. If Horus were awake, he would view the majesty of a Golden Dragon with unparalleled dominance, enchanting Amon and empowering all of his moves.
[Come.]
Amon’s voice compelled the Demon to halt its steps. Their heads snapped back at Amon, with Damien’s flashing its pearly white teeth.
Words of Domination, better known as Dragon’s Speech.
One of the Dragon Arts was taught to Amon by Yval after he obtained an excess of her blessing. Just as its name suggested, Amon could issue orders like a sovereign, and anyone with a weaker bloodline or poor resistance could not defy his orders. For Apostles like the Twin Brutes, however, it only served as a physical taunt, but in this case, it was sufficient.
He could redirect the twins’ attention away from the injured Leon and onto himself.
Taking one deep breath in, Amon felt the full pressure of the Apostles weigh in on his shoulders. With the power of the Demon Realm behind them, it felt like an ocean had replaced the sky and every fibre of Amon’s body was screaming at him to run away.
But against the heavy pressure, the man didn’t cave. Instead, a smile broke free from his lips as he said: "I finally get the chance to try this out…"
Amon swung Nyx around, stomping his feet as he gathered every ounce of Solar mana within his soul. His heart pounded rapidly, yet its acceleration followed a precise, controlled rhythm. It was preparing for something immense, working in perfect harmony with the Six Suns orbiting his body to forge the ultimate form.
"Dragon Form."
