Chapter 201: Tournament [5]
"Alex, you won't participate in this tournament!"
"Huh?"
A single word blurted out from Alex's mouth the instant he heard what Rowan said.
"Uhm... I... I don't quite understand..." Alex said, his brows furrowed as he glanced at Orion and then glanced at the King.
Rowan leaned forward slightly, his gaze fixated on Alex.
"You heard me correctly, Alex," he said, his voice unshaken. "You won't participate in this tournament, and the reason is valid."
Alex's eyes were still filled with confusion. He needed an explanation.
"If you participate in this tournament, there's no doubt that Greenfield Academy will win," Rowan said. "I believe that you, participating in this tournament, will be quite unfair."
Alex squinted his eyes. "I... There must certainly be other participants who are as strong as m-"
The King suddenly gazed at Alex deeply, interrupting him.
"Are you toying with me?" Rowan asked. "Or do you think I don't know what you are capable of?"
Alex clenched his fists as he stared at the floor.
Rowan continued. "I know that there are other strong Mages in the other Academies, but even with that, they'll only be able to give you a little trouble. It'll be a sure win for you."
"So, you participating in the tournament might discourage some of them and not give them a chance to properly showcase their abilities," Rowan concluded.
Alex still remained quiet, staring at the floor.
'This bastard... Just because he's the King,' Alex thought as his eyes twitched.
Orion glanced at Alex, trying to make out his reaction, before looking at the king.
He lowered his head before speaking. "My King, you can still reconsider thi-"
"I don't want to hear it, Orion!" Rowan said, his gaze unwavering. "What do you mean by reconsider?"
He gazed at Orion. "If you are depending on Alex, then that means you are not confident in the other students representing Greenfield Academy. And if you are not confident in them, then that means..."
The King paused as he stared at Orion before he continued in a low but stern voice.
"They weren't properly trained..."
Orion instantly lowered his head just like Alex as his eyes widened, realizing that his position as a principal was on the line.
"I'm sorry, my King," Orion said.
Rowan relaxed on his chair as his gaze drifted to the screen where the two students whose names were called finally walked towards the battlefield.
"My decision is final," Rowan muttered.
"Understood, my King," both Alex and Orion said in unison as they lowered their heads before walking out of the room.
They didn't say a word to each other until they finally exited the building.
"What is the meaning of this?" Alex gritted his teeth in anger.
"I myself am also confused about his sudden decision," Orion said. "But the King's decision is final. There is nothing we can do about it."
"So, the others will have to cope on their own..." Alex muttered.
"Yes," Orion said. "We just have to believe in them and hope that they successfully win this tournament for the Academy."
*********
"YES! The two students from two different Academies who will start this Second Stage have finally arrived at the battlefield!"
The students cheered immediately after the announcer said this, their eyes gleaming with anticipation.
"TESSA! TESSA! TESSA!"
The students of Greenfield Academy began shouting Tessa's name in unison, after all, she was currently on the platform, well, battlefield, standing opposite the second student who was a girl from a different Academy.
"LINA! LINA! LINA!"
The students of Blackstone City were also shouting the girl's name, anticipating the battle.
"Ah, she just had to have the same name as me," Lina slumped on her chair.
"Well..." Hector muttered with a wry smile, unsure of what to say.
"Now, Tessa and Lina, take your choice of weapon from that handsome man who is currently approaching!" The announcer exclaimed.
Following his instruction, they both walked towards the man who just climbed the platform carrying a multitude of weapons inside a big bag.
Tessa quickly grabbed a sword, and the girl grabbed a staff. After that, they both walked back to their positions. The weapons were at the Common Rank.
"Okay! There's just two rules. Rule number one, you have five minutes to defeat your opponent, either by them surrendering or by them falling on their back!"
"And rule number two..."
The arena became quiet as all the students waited to hear rule number two. But then...
"Rule number two... FIGHT!!"
WHOOSH!
Lightning suddenly surrounded the girl's legs, and in an instant, she had already dashed towards Tessa.
'So quick...?' Tessa thought, surprised by the way the girl instantly moved after hearing the announcement.
Tessa furrowed her brows. She had been absorbing the sound from the announcer's voice and the students cheering, and she quickly used her Spell, using the sound to boost her speed.
WHOOSH!
She also dashed towards the girl at full speed, making the students cheer in excitement.
The platform was big and wide, so they were still far apart a bit.
As Tessa was getting closer to the girl, she suddenly heard something like metal clashing coming from directly in front of her.
Her eyes suddenly widened as she realized something.
Instantly, she made an abrupt stop, and immediately she did that...
WHOOSH!
A spear instantly burst out from the floor in front of her. Even though she stopped just before the spear came out, the tip still managed to graze her skin, drawing a little blood.
Lina who was dashing towards her was startled by the sudden appearance of the spear, making her slow down a bit, but she quickly continued running towards Tessa.
In an instant, she arrived beside Tessa who was still startled by the spear.
WHOOSH!
Without wasting time, she swung her staff that was covered with blue lightning towards Tessa.
CLANG!
Tessa was quick enough to raise her sword, blocking the staff, making sparks fly around.
Tessa instantly leaped back as she gripped her sword. 'Where the hell did the spear come from?'
The crowd was also in an uproar, shouting about the spear that erupted from the floor.
Meanwhile, in the room where the participants were seated, they were all watching the battle, including Arin and Ron, and immediately they saw what happened, some of them began grumbling.
"What? He didn't even mention anything about traps!"
"Hmm, you're supposed to know by now that they're not saying everything about the tournament, just like they did in the first stage."
Arin's eyes were fixated on the screen, not even paying attention to what Ron was saying.
'I think this is enough confirmation that this tournament is like a preparation,' Arin thought. 'From the spear that erupted from the ground, I can say the stage is about fighting while still watching out for obstacles at the same time.'
With a sigh, he folded his arms. 'Be careful, Tessa.'
In the battlefield, the fight had already continued.
Immediately Tessa leaped back, Lina began dashing towards her again, but before she could even take more than five steps...
WHOOSH!
Spikes suddenly began erupting from the ground beneath her.
She quickly leaped back, though a few managed to graze her legs.
Tessa didn't waste that opportunity. She quickly dashed toward Lina, making sure to keep her ears active.
WHOOSH!
As she was running, she heard that same sound of metal clashing, but this time, she didn't stop.
She instantly moved to the left while still running, and in that same instant, a spear erupted from the ground where she was formerly standing.
Lina, seeing this, bore through the slight pain in her legs, and began dashing towards Tessa.
She raised her staff, and numerous lightning bolts instantly formed. With a single command, they raced towards Tessa.
"Haha! This battle is quickly getting heated! Will Tessa of Greenfield Academy be able to go through these lightning bolts? Or will she surrender?"
Tessa instantly stretched out her left hand while still running and an invisible ball of Sound Energy gathered from the cheering of the students and the other attacks, formed on her palm.
BOOM!
With a loud boom, the attack rushed towards Lina, and at the same time, the lightning bolts had almost reached Tessa.
But then...
'I'm faster...'
WHOOSH!
Tessa began moving in a zigzag manner, her figure like a blur as she bolted past the lightning bolts, dodging them with immense precision as they struck the floor.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Lightning surrounded Lina's legs as she moved to the right, dodging the Sound Energy ball.
But at that moment, Tessa had already reached her and swung her sword.
CLANG!
Tessa's sword and Lina's staff collided, sending ripples in the air.
Suddenly, the lightning surrounding Lina's staff began extending, but Tessa had already foreseen it.
She leaped back, but then...
WHOOSH!
Another spear erupted from the ground beside her, grazing her skin once again.
'Shit...'
Tessa and Lina locked eyes as the tension between them increased.
"Students! Watch carefully, because trust me, an epic battle is about to go down!"
What do you think?
