Chapter 40: All Is Well (3)
"Huh, how am I supposed to believe that a 6-year-old child is capable of destruction like this?"
The woman felt seemingly bothered by my words and even if it’s a lie, I’d say Ezekiel did his part stopping that monster’s regeneration.
I felt like he would’ve given me a little more trouble with two hands rather than one.
"It’s the truth…"
I pretended to fake a tear and the surrounding guards seemed concerned about why she was pressing a five-year-old kid.
-That’s terrible…
-So it’s true commander isn’t good with kids.
-I hope she doesn’t see my kids.
Nivel stepped forward, his expression serious.
"He’s most likely telling the truth," he said, his voice firm. "I suspected Ezekiel must’ve snuck out last night and stumbled upon a group of slave traders. They must have attacked him, and in self-defense, he..." Nivel paused, searching for a plausible explanation. "He must have triggered some kind of latent ability, causing this devastation."
The woman’s skepticism remained.
"But how is that child awake, then?" she countered and pointed directly at me.
"How do we know he isn’t the one behind all of this?"
"He doesn’t even know how to use magic yet," Nivel insisted. "He hasn’t even awakened his mana core."
"…!"
The woman’s eyes narrowed, but as she studied me carefully, her expression softened.
"You’re probably right. But those feet over there are clearly not from an ordinary monster. We’ll be investigating this scene immediately and arresting these mercenaries if they’re found guilty of any charges relating to that creature."
Just then, a guard called out to the commander.
"We found a lab coat with a name on it," he reported. "It says ’Nard.’"
Nard? The Nard from the teleportation portal? Was he responsible for that demonic serum?
"That’s one way to go out," I muttered to myself.
The commander examined the coat with a grim expression after confirming the details.
"Bring this man and his two kids back to town. If they’re needed, we’ll have to question them about this."
The guards nodded and gently guided us towards the carriages.
That’s how Ezekiel’s little misadventure ended.
I got out without much trouble and Ezekiel was under Nivel’s watch for the entire day.
But of course, we had a bunch of other things to do and now that a few days had passed, the teleportation portal was fixed.
I could finally see my mom again after a long time.
*
ZOOOOM!
"AH!!"
"WAHHH,"
Ezekiel and I screamed as we travelled at an extremely high speed. My body felt like it was going to tear.
WHAM
Finally, we had arrived at the capital city of the Aurean Kingdom.
I was on my knees after teleporting, totally freaked out by everything I saw.
"I felt like I was in a mana tunnel."
I gasped for air, realising how irregular it must’ve felt trying to breathe.
"Let’s go."
Nivel picked both of us up by the back of our clothing and left the station to look around the city.
"Wow…"
I’m surprised… It was exactly what I expected, given how fancy and rich the capital was.
BLEH...
I gaged for a moment, and I felt the aftereffects of the teleportation running through my body.
It was a nightmare of jet lag and seasickness.
"Julian, I don’t feel good…"
Ezekiel held onto his stomach as if he was going to vomit, and then I saw Nivel pick him up by the collar with a menacing expression.
"No running off."
He gave Ezekiel a serious lecture about doing things on his own, but he just smiled mischievously.
"Julian, your mother sent me a scroll to let you know that she’ll be done in the evening, so as of now, we’ll take you to the place we were heading to."
"And where is that?"
"Aethel Academy."
"Oh... that place."
Hearing "Aethel and Academy," my mind instantly jumped to all the big fight scenes and drama of the novel.
Aethel Academy is known for being the most prestigious academy in the most prestigious country. which is why all kingdoms from all 7 continents send their children to this thriving institution. Of course, there were plenty of academies that could compete within each continent, but everyone across the world was aware of the legacy, the history, and power the academy offered.
The academy’s reputation is built upon the past and current mages who have graced its halls.
Among its distinguished alumni is Saint Alonso, the strongest human in the world and the greatest Cross Mage in history.
Kaiser Autumar Pyre, who attended the academy alongside Alonso, is another notable figure. He is not only the King of the Drakenheim continent but also the strongest Battle Mage across the seven continents.
With a history spanning over a millennium, Aethel Academy is known for its integrity and impartiality. Entry cannot be bought or bribed, and there is no special treatment for nobles or royalty. This ensures that even a commoner has the opportunity to attend and excel within the place.
Now, we were walking on foot but given the cities immense size, the Kingdom Of Aureus could be seen all the way from the portal entrance and where we basically stood which I even don’t know where we were but I noticed that there were crowds of different ethnicities, as well as different other races that roamed these streets.
"So many people... there’s much more than there were at Oakwood."
Ezekiel was surprised at the state of this city. He had an expression that said ’I want to explore this place so badly.’
"Right, I’d be surprised if I found someone that looked like you."
I gave him a smirk, and Ezekiel got mad, trying to throw a punch at me.
"Damn it Julian, you know how to get on my nerves!"
He rushed up towards me, but I put my hand over his face, keeping him from ever reaching me.
"There can only be one me!"
He chucked his fist straight at my chest, hitting me as hard as he could, but with each punch he threw, my body wasn’t even registering them as punches.
Rather, they were like soft cushions of tissue tapping against my stomach.
"Enough fighting. We need to get going now."
Nivel put a hand between us, and he led the way to Aethel academy.
What do you think?
