Chapter 427: 395. Charles Mecklen Meets His Majesty Brittany (5,000 words chapter, seeking monthly tickets)_2

This time, Midafis Axer led a group of Transcendent Knights into the skies and saw the Count Brittany, who appeared like a demon god. This knight, proclaimed to be a contender for the strongest of the next generation alongside Antonio, actually fled without fighting.

Charles was not Transcendent and couldn’t follow Count Brittany and others as they charged into Strasbourg. Apart from ordering his seven Transcendent subordinates to charge alongside the count, he personally commanded the army. This time, Prince Redmir’s and Duke Mosley’s private Knighthood, which were defending the city, could no longer hold back and were instantly overwhelmed.

Charles did not wish to slaughter needlessly, and ceaselessly shouted for these people to surrender. He cut his way through, taking captives as he went, and by the time he broke into the Imperial Palace, the battle had already ended.

Duke Mosley was nowhere to be found, but Prince Redmir and his confidants were surrounded. They had all suffered serious injuries. Among the crowd, a lady stood out conspicuously, holding a freshly made cake that still gave off the aroma of having just come out of the oven. Redmir pleaded bitterly, no longer possessing the proud demeanor he had not long before.

Count Brittany stood silently at the center of the Imperial Palace, dark energy surging around him emanating an unspeakable pressure, like mountains weighing upon the entire palace, causing Prince Redmir to be stricken with fear. He shouted loudly, “Sir Brittany, as long as you spare me, I will elevate you to Duke, I will take Anne to be my wife, crowning her as Empress…”

Charles didn’t want to steal the spotlight; he knew that Count Brittany was loyal to the Royal Family and might not be able to carry out the deed. To kill a Prince of the Royal Family truly required great resolve.

...

When Prince Redmir spoke of taking Anne to be his wife, that was truly a death wish.

What could be tolerated and what not?

Charles drew the Hockwell Silver Rhinoceros, taking aim at Redmir Axer’s head, and fired.

The shot blossomed the head of the prince, who had usurped the throne for just a few days!

The Alchemical Handgun had been the weapon that assassinated Archduke Ferdinand and had also killed Jonathan, the leader of the South Serif Restoration Army. Now, it had taken the life of Fars’s “Emperor,” who had been enthroned for only a few days and never received formal recognition as a bogus king.

The Hockwell Silver Rhinoceros, was truly a weapon of great and sinister killings.

Almost every member of Brittany Knighthood who heard Redmir declare his intentions to make Anne the Empress looked at him as if he were a dead man.

When Charles fired that shot and killed the pretender, almost everyone displayed a look of inevitability.

Charles Meklen, after all, was the one who had pushed Anne Brittany to become Grand Duchess of Modova.

The news was shocking enough to stun the continent!

How could such a stubborn man tolerate anyone coveting Count Brittany…

Well, His Majesty Brittany’s eldest daughter!

As Charles killed Redmir Axer, the prince’s headless body fell to the ground with a thud, prompting the lady holding the fresh cake to scream and step back, losing hold of the cake, which, by sheer fluke, landed on Ebner, dirtying his already filthy clothing.

Antonio whispered, “She is Prince Redmir’s wife!”

Charles retorted, “He has a wife and still dares to covet my Anne?”

Charles raised the Hockwell Silver Rhinoceros again, but hesitated, until Ebner Sumei reached out to stop him, took the extraordinary Handgun, and said, “Charles, you’ve already killed Redmir, Krel doesn’t need this credit, but I do. Give it to me!”

Ebner raised the Handgun, causing the newly made Empress of Fars to panic, accidentally stepping on a maid’s foot in her confusion. Just as Ebner was about to pull the trigger, she softly pleaded, “Grant me the time for a single sentence.” She took a deep breath, regained her composure, lowered her head, and softly spoke to the maid, “I’m sorry, you know I didn’t mean it.”

She then raised her head to Ebner and said, “I made a hazelnut cake to celebrate my husband becoming Emperor. It should taste very good. It’s just a shame my husband won’t get to taste it. Would you honor me by trying a piece?”

Ebner hesitated, then dipped his finger into a relatively clean piece of cake, tasted it, and nodded, saying, “Delicious. The lady’s craft is unparalleled.”

Then he raised the Hockwell Silver Rhinoceros and shot the gentle lady dead.

Ebner Sumei handed the Handgun back to Charles with an expressionless face. Such is politics, and no one can afford to be soft-hearted.

Count Brittany heaved a deep sigh; a visible weariness overcame him again. He turned and left the palace, intent on going to his wife’s side to quietly spend some time with her.

The knights of the Brittany Family, each battle-hardened and with extensive experience in governance, quickly took over all the government departments in Strasbourg even though the Count had left.

Compared to the hasty and chaotic Redmir, the talents of the Brittany Family seemed to handle affairs with much ease. In just half a day, they had taken control of the entire Strasbourg.

Charles personally led the team that occupied the Central Government Office. He had worked there for two years and was familiar with everything. After taking control of the Central Government Office, Charles immediately led the Westwind Knights in a sweep of all the syndicates in Strasbourg.

This was something he had been eager to do for a long time but never had the capability to execute.
