After hearing what Morgan had to say, Antonio immediately agreed, “I’ve got this covered!”

“I will arrange a ship for you!”

Charles, behaving very prudently, quietly walked away without any intention of getting involved.

He didn’t even visit Earl Brittany.

In recent days, the Earl had been silently accompanying his wife, never leaving her side.

This was Charles’s second visit to 58 Sixth Avenue in the Val de Vaz District, and his first time entering the mansion, but he felt no sense of attachment. After all, the matter concerning Morgan was far too taboo. While Antonio could be involved, he absolutely must not touch it.

...

In the days that followed, Charles began systematically withdrawing the soldiers of the Westwind Knights, retreating them back to South Serif, Behemoth, and the cities of the Red Dragon Sea.

Now that Strasbourg was under the control of the Brittany Family, it should theoretically be taken over by the Brittany Knights. Previously, the Earl had arrived in a rush, bringing only nine of the Sacred Order, and all the manpower at his disposal were people from the Westwind Knights. But lately, knights from the Brittany Family had been arriving, and Charles’s Westwind Knights had too many Beastmen among them. These Beastmen had brought unpleasant memories for the people of Strasbourg, and staying on would certainly lead to disagreeable incidents, so he decided to withdraw his subordinates early to avoid any conflicts.

While Charles was gradually pulling out the Westwind Knights, several major events occurred in succession within the Fars Empire.

The first was that Midaphis withdrew to Prince Redmiel’s territory and declared independence from Fars, establishing the Second Fars Kingdom. Almost simultaneously, Mosleyd also declared his duchy independent from Fars and, along with an alliance of seven noble territories, formed the Kingdom of Oslo, proclaiming himself as the first king!

Secondly, Count Dardanian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Count Galanode, the Minister of War, announced their recognition of Earl Brittany’s legitimacy!

The third event was the establishment of a temporary ceasefire on the Ferlanden front.

While Charles could understand the first two events, the third baffled him. Why hadn’t Byron taken advantage of the situation? There must be countless undercurrents to this affair, teeming with secret dealings. Although Charles had rapidly emerged as a new political star beside Earl Brittany during this coup, he was not yet qualified to intervene in these major affairs. These matters were still firmly in the hands of the seasoned bureaucrats of the Fars Empire, even Earl Brittany had not been able to get involved for the time being.

Just as Charles had withdrawn the Beastmen and was about to pull out the remaining knights, Earl Brittany finally made his first public appearance after the coup!

His first action was to visit Count Dardanian, then he sent his son, Antonio, to the Ferlanden front, followed by a series of meetings with Strasbourg’s nobility.

Every day, countless messengers left Strasbourg, hurrying to various destinations, and just as many envoys carrying missions came from all directions to bargain with Earl Brittany. Even with the Brittany Family’s formidable strength, it would take a long time to “reunify” Fars.

As a Minister from the Dragon, Charles often followed Earl Brittany around during this period, but since he was completely ignorant of politics, he chose to say nothing and just be a tool.

What Charles didn’t know was that he was now an absolutely significant figure in Fars’s political arena, with many keeping a close watch on his every move.

After all, he now possessed seven of the Sacred Order, controlled three large jurisdictions, and commanded hundreds of thousands of elite troops, making him one of the top five power players in Fars, aside from the Brittany Family’s Knighthood.

After many busy days, Charles finally had a rare day off, so he gathered all his subordinates at Elysian Pastoral Street No. 58 for a banquet.

Previously, nearly all the guests at Charles’ friend gatherings were ladies, but this time, several gentlemen finally joined. First were the seven Sacred Order members: Black Dragon, Qiudelo, Golden Ram Herolf, Vigo, Kresto, Aspros, and Regulus. Then came Dobin, Yellow Bear, Taoles, Antony, Silvia Martin, and Belisa.

Even two new members had joined: the quick-handed scribe Italo Calvino, the true author passed on by Charles, and Lady Southseraph Sebalde, who indeed had an exceptional talent. He had now fully mastered the transformation into the Hunchback Red Bear, no longer merely able to turn his arms into bear paws, but his whole body into a Bear Person. He had even begun practicing Bloodthirsty Fighting Spirit.

Moreover, his two good friends, the president of Agile Cats Detective Agency, Vini Yarsaenu, and his former fiancée, Silvie Martin, also joined the gathering.

Charles now truly had a gathering of talented subordinates.

Madam Nancy, who had just been released, brought several temporarily hired maids to continuously serve delicacies to the guests. Mrs. Plum Sauce was busy to the point of exhaustion, yet she appeared to be quite happy.

The three grown Agile Cats weaved through the crowd but still preferred to stay close to Charles and Vini Yarsaenu. The former was their known master, and the latter was skilled in Fairy Cat Magic, naturally gaining the fondness of these little creatures.

While Charles was mingling with everyone, he suddenly felt a tug on his sleeve. Seeing that it was Black Dragon, he followed this Beastman of the Sacred Order to a quiet corner.

In a low voice, Black Dragon said, “Head of the McAllen family, there’s something you ought to do.”

Charles asked, “What is it?”

Black Dragon firmly said, “Announce that the South Serif warzone, the Behemoth Duchy, and the Red Dragon warzone are willing to pledge allegiance to His Majesty Brittany.”

Charles, suddenly realizing the oversight, said, “I am not very familiar with politics; I indeed forgot about this matter.”

He had originally assumed that he was a staunch supporter of the Earl, but it was Black Dragon’s reminder that made Charles come to a sudden realization: public support was something altogether different. If he did not publicly show his support, how would anyone know if he was ambivalent?

Charles immediately went to look for Kresto, Aspros, and Regulus.

The three former heads of the Royal Knights Order had felt quite awkward lately. After joining Charles, they had not expected that when they declared their allegiance, there was one condition: the Aksel bloodline must resume the throne!

Earl Brittany certainly did not have the Aksel bloodline, so after the Earl’s coronation, they still had to swear loyalty to Charles. Although they could leave, where could they go? It was no longer the Aksel family in power! Following Charles turned out to be their best choice, especially since Charles Meklen was widely recognized as the Earl’s future son-in-law, a true power broker.

They could not accuse Charles of playing tricks or deceiving them either, for although the Earl lacked the Aksel lineage, he wed the eldest daughter of the old Emperor Julius Axler VI. His son, Antonio, and daughter, Anne, both carried the legitimate blood of the Aksel family.

The future throne was bound to return to the hands of the Aksel bloodline.

Charles sought them out because these three knights knew the process of pledging allegiance! They could offer him some advice.
