Chapter 628: Are you trying to compete with Jiang University for talent? A meeting gift of 2

She took Bai Lian inside to change clothes, and outside, only Jiang Fulai was left with Dean Jian.

The two of them had little to say.

Even though Young Master Jiang restrained himself, his presence was still strong, so Dean Jian chatted with Old Hu at his side.

The costume change didn’t take long, but Pu Xiaohan wanted to give Bai Lian a simple makeup look, so twenty minutes passed before they came out.

At the sound of movement, Jiang Fulai, who was leaning against a Dracaena plant, finally looked up.

Bai Lian walked ahead, parting the floral curtain and stepping out. Her hair was long, and a single hairpin couldn’t hold it all up, so she had taken strands from both sides and pinned them behind her head.

...

As she parted the curtain, her hair cascaded down in front of her chest.

The crimson Warring States Robe meandered on the ground.

Pu Xiaohan spent half a month determining this location; the lighting was truly a killer feature, without overly harsh rays or deliberate additional lighting – natural and simple.

Jiang Fulai stood silently at the entrance, watching.

Even Dean Jian and Old Hu by his side momentarily forgot what they were discussing as they looked at Bai Lian.

She seemed like a noblewoman from a thousand years ago, casually stepping out from the house, as light pierced through gaps in the bamboo grove, filtering through dust all the way down.

The light speckled her face, her complexion pale and clear, long lashes slightly lowered, her eyes and eyebrows more beautiful than any painting, with the sound of insects and the whisper of the wind by her ears, occasionally punctuated by the laughter of passersby outside the bamboo grove.

Everything was harmonious and quiet.

Dressed in a tracksuit, Pu Xiaohan followed closely behind Bai Lian, pulling everyone back from the painting into reality.

“Sister Lian,” Pu Xiaohan, who had already stayed inside once, still stared at Bai Lian’s face, “you should sit in front of this stone table, be careful, your dress is a bit long…”

Pu Xiaohan watched Bai Lian descend the steps, reminding her.

The Warring States Robe was very long, trailing the ground; modern people wearing it could easily step on the hem.

She had just been speaking when she saw Bai Lian step down the stairs, walking as if on flat ground, her skirt without a wrinkle. Pu Xiaohan had always heard netizens complain that none of this year’s period dramas, except for “Great Yong,” featured truly graceful deportment.

Now, seeing Bai Lian, she finally understood what deportment meant.

She swallowed the words on her lips and used the camera to capture Bai Lian playing the guzheng.

Bai Lian sat at the stone table, idly strumming the strings of the instrument, appearing quite natural. She was the only one in Pu Xiaohan’s lens who didn’t need deliberate directing.

One Big Bowl aimed to collaborate with the Jiangjing Music Academy to produce a video feature on traditional musical instruments.

This wasn’t Pu Xiaohan’s first time collaborating with officials; she was creating an ancient-modern vibe that would include instruments like the pipa and bamboo flute, in addition to the guzheng.

Bai Lian occupied very little screen time.

It was recorded quickly.

The entire scene was very quiet; Dean Jian and Old Hu said nothing.

She didn’t perform “Desert Melody” as Dean Jian had expected but instead improvised a segment of “The White Robed Journey.”

This time around, she was more familiar with the guzheng than during the performance at the Xiangcheng anniversary celebration; thus, her playing was also more skillful, with her fingertips stirring the strings as if summoning a galloping army of thousands.

After playing a short segment, Pu Xiaohan played back the video she had recorded for Bai Lian. It was then that Old Hu finally snapped back to reality.

This was his first time hearing Bai Lian play.

Before, he thought Bai Lian was Yan Lu’s composer and that Dean Jian held her in high regard for that reason. It was only after he heard Bai Lian play that he understood what Dean Jian meant by his comment.

Old Hu, following Dean Jian, naturally had an understanding of music too.

This presence, even Dean Jian’s three disciples couldn’t match it.

After changing clothes, Bai Lian didn’t leave. Jiang Fulai saw sugar-coated haws being sold at the park entrance and led her over there.

Old Hu watched their retreating figures and finally turned to Dean Jian, “Dean Jian, do you know who Miss Bai’s teacher is?”

In the world of traditional musical instruments, there are only a few key figures. There may be debate over who is the foremost in other factions, but when it comes to the guzheng faction, it could only be Jian Zhongyou.

And yet, Bai Lian’s playing style doesn’t quite match that of Dean Jian’s lineage.

Who exactly is her teacher?

“Her?” Dean Jian thought of Bai Lian’s mention of “Qin Jiu” and paused, “She must be a master who has retreated to live quietly in the mountains, as you know, there are quite a few folk experts around Xiangcheng.”

Dean Jian was somewhat eager to hear Bai Lian play “The White Robed Journey” in full.

But seeing Bai Lian, she didn’t seem very willing.

So he asked Pu Xiaohan to send him the footage shot that day.

Jiangyin.

When Dean Jian returned, the president of Jiang University was writing a speech for the opening ceremony.

Dean Jian transferred all the footage taken by Pu Xiaohan to the president, “That’s about it, I’ll also send you her video project plan. It’ll all be edited in the next couple of days, then she can forward the finished version to you.”
